    Hi David! Thanks for the great video. Two things. First, great advice on the o-ring. When I removed mine, the o-ring stayed and I had to go in after it. Second, I measured open circuit on mine but it still read rpms on alfaOBD. I think the center pin had a bad connection (wasn't an OEM sensor). I actually swapped it out with the oil line in place but its not a big deal to move it if I felt like it. Thanks again! Sorry that you don't seem to be a cummins /ram fan because I appreciate your videos. I asked about an exhaust issue couple years ago. It turned out to be my actuator. I went with a city diesel unit on an aftermarket turbo.

    Great video, My 6.7 is getting P2580 and P2579. Besides the code i noticed my truck blowing alittle smoke and smelling more exhaust. It still builds boost though. My truck is deleted so I didnt notice any re-gen issues. I tested the sensor and its not showing any resistance. I'm placing an order on Geno's right now. Thanks for making the video. Had my truck at the dealer for an airbag recall yesterday and I am glad i cleared the codes before I went in. $400+ is a crazy markup on a $187 part.

    Great videos! 2009 ram 2500 the diesel exhaust brake worked awesome and kicked in/slowed me down and I used it all the time for daily driving, without the tow/haul mode activated. Again, it worked great! Now, the exhause brake doesn't seem to be working/kicking in as it has. It no longer slows me as it had before. Going down slight grade hills or any grade hill for that matter. . . the exhaust brake does not kick in or slow me down at all. However, it will if I activate my tow/haul mode button it works. Any idea what is causing this to only work with tow/haul engaged?Thanks

    Dave, Thanks so much for you videos. My 2010 Mega had/has the code P2579. I tested the Turbo Speed Sensor in the truck and it was within the ohm range at 900. In the video you mention it may be the ECM? How can a shade tree guy test that? Could the P2579 code also be thrown with a Exhaust Pressure sensor code P0471? I change out the Exhaust Sensor (Geno's) and noticed the Exhaust Pressure Sensor Tube tube was clogged. Unable to clean so I am geeting a new one from Geno's this week. Is it possible the P0471 could cause the P2579? Thanks again for your videos, so clear, concise, and informative.

    You know your stuff, thank you. I replaced the speed sensor hoping it would fix my issue but it didn't. I'm getting a P0046 code occasionally and it goes away on its own. Under a heavy load, going from zero to uphill, the turbo just doesn't kick in. Otherwise, it works fine. Do you have a video of P0046 or have another suggestion on a part to replace? 2014 RAM 6.7 3500 Thank you for all you do.

  • @MotorCityMechanic

    @MotorCityMechanic

    7 жыл бұрын

    Each time I had a bad sensor.....it set a code. The code was the the first symptom. That was the last speed sensor I had to replace and to be honest....I cant remember what that symptom was lol. Theres a chance that the truck may not do a regen with that code present and that could also cause an issue over time if not addressed. Another possible issue is boost. The speed sensor not reading could cause the turbo to not work correctly as well which would cause a lack of power concern. Wish I had more accurate symptoms but like I said......its been awhile since my last turbo speed sensor. Thanks for the feedback and kind words. Much appreciated. Make sure to subscribe!

    +MagmaDiamond - Road To 200 Subs If your getting 9 mega ohms then that's way too much. It doesn't matter if the sensor is installed or removed....you should get the same reading. Specs for a good sensor are 600-1600 ohms.

    Nice vid I figured it'd be easy but always like to "read the instructions first" After my dealer wanted $600 I called cummins gave them my engine number they gave me their price of $196 + shipping, I got the part # called peterbuilt down the road dickered with them a bit and got it for $190 + $12 shipping! Also buying the filters fuel in particular is a TON cheaper than NAPA or any autoparts store. Anyone with a Diesel needs to contact their nearest big rig sales stores and you're welcome ;-)

    I havent made a video on that as of yet. So far I have only had to replace the manifold gaskets and not the manifold. It is time consuming with having to take everything off of it. Do you have the turbo completely out of the truck? Curious based on what you were describing. I do recommend removing the turbo mounting studs except for the back rear corner against the block and the single one on the manifold itself.

  • @MotorCityMechanic

    @MotorCityMechanic

    7 жыл бұрын

    I dont have a video on the cleaning. The cleaning that we do is with the turbo on the vehicle and it requires the cleaning port and also the scanner to perform the actual cleaning. The scanner will actuator the turbo plate to make it move back and forth repeatedly to help clean it. I havent had the chance to clean one off the vehicle which I would love to but I dont have access to a turbo to do this on. The code that you gave me is more electrical then mechanical. It requires testing circuits to see if you have the proper readings as well as having a scanner that can access all the modules and then check all of them to see what other possible codes may be present to help aid in the diag. Most code readers cant read all the modules....only the main items like ABS, TCM or PCM. Thanks for watching and for the question. Make sure to subscribe

    Hey buddy great video - in addition to this code at the same time p0106 popped up too - some research had lead me to a conclusion that the two codes p0106 and p2579 are closely connected and by replacing the turbo speed sensor it will knock both codes out. can you shed any light on this? 2010 ram 2500 ctd

    +Pedro Cáceres La noche, el código más común para substituir el turbo es P2262. Hay otros códigos y otras razones. La plancha en el turbo y puede provocar que el motor no tienen poder. Requiere leer los datos utilizando el escáner para ver si la placa se pega. Hay talleres de reparación que pueden reconstruir el turbo o limpiarlo si es necesario. Basta con comprobar todo antes de cambiar. Gracias por ver los videos y por la pregunta. No se olvide de suscribirse.

    Most likely they are older stored codes. They would have set the check engine light at some point unless they are pending codes. Typically codes require an issue to happen twice to mature to an active code and then once it no longer happens....becomes a stored code with no light on.

    Evening Todd. The turbo is electronically controlled and it's speed sensor is very important. It has an affect on how the turbo is controlled. You could expect a difference in performance for sure. This also could affect items like the DPF regents as well

    What worries me is the deletes. The code states 2 possible causes....PCM/ECM software level at the latest, soot build up on the turbocharger, and then turbo charger. Well you mentioned you replaced the turbo so it needs to be ruled out. So being that you have deletes...it means you must be running a programmer? Thats where a possible cause may be. I havent had the chance to work on any with deletes because at that point they no longer come to the dealership.

    2012 2500 ram Cummins, p2271 code, what does this mean? I assume it's a nox sensor, but which one?

  • @MotorCityMechanic

    @MotorCityMechanic

    5 жыл бұрын

    Actually P2271 is an o2 sensor code. While searching it shows that there have been multiple software updates that included that code which may or may not help. Also.....there was a bulletin put out that had us install an overlay harness for that same code related to the o2 sensors. Typically I would perform the mentioned repairs first before replacing anything. The sensors are located just before the DPF filter. That assembly before the DPF is a catalytic converter.....the sensor at the rear of it is the one per that code. Hope this helps. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.

    I dont like the dealers prices.....a quick search online shows the turbo itself being $5000.....not $8000. Seems like one hell of a mark up. I wonder if that includes the labor which wouldnt be more then $300-$400. I mainly deal with OEM parts so not sure about aftermarket turbos .I do know that there are companies that will rebuild it for you.....you just have to remove the old turbo and get it to them. As far as which to go with.....that code requires doing some testing and getting some info on the service history to see if anything was done recently related to the turbo. The causes are the actuator needs calibration, the actuator, or the turbo. Its still a bit too early to guess as to which on without running those tests and inspections. Thanks for following the channel and for the support.
