Dodge Journey Windshield Washer Hose Repair $1

This video is on how I made a one dollar repair to the windshield washer hose on my Dodge Journey. It is very common for these plastic hoses, that make up windshield washer systems on a lot of Chrysler vehicles, to break at the point where the hoses make a 90 degree bend. I could have replaced it with an aftermarket kit but that required the use of zip ties which I did not want to use. I could also have purchased an OEM kit but that was $50 to get it here. I quickly realized that all I needed was a one foot piece of 5/32 rubber vacuum/washer hose which I could cut to size and force over my remaining hose with just a bit of trimming.

Thank you so much, you saved me a lot of money in comparison to getting someone to fix this or even for the kit. I sent my wife to our local Napa, and paid 89 cents for 1ft of hose. I have a 2014 durango. I've had this car nickle and dime me since I've had it because of cheap parts dodge has placed on this vehicle. This was just another thing. Was about to go on a trip, opened the hood to check my fluids, and then I heard a POP! It was the windshield wiper hose snapping at the bend near the hinge of the hood. I just shook my head thinking here's something else I have to pay for because of poor craftsmanship of this vehicle. With that being said, I followed your method and it was easy and now I have wiper fluid flowing again. Thank you much!

I tried this method on our Pacifica and it would work for a short period of time until the OEM Tube would break again. The tube is so brittle and clearly an issue. Not surprised at all the there hasn't been any improvement on a known failed part. Just going to bite the bullet and replace the whole line this time. Hope it's not a PITA to replace from the reservoir.

Thank you, Phil. I spent $1.50. Inflation, inflation. Same size tube. They charge for 1 foot.

Did this and the rubber hose keeps sliding off, when I spray. Too much pressure. Silicone or rubber cement?

I already came up with this idea on my own and had plenty of tubing around the house but, my problem is that my avenger doesn't have any play room at all where the hose bends. That area under my hood is completely enclosed. The hose I put on just crimps closed when I shut my hood. I don't have a 90° angle so much as a 10-15° angle. Worst design ever! Thanks for sharing though.

I'm guessing that your in a hot and dry environment which actually causes the plastic line to harden and become brittle and thus prone to breaking. I would replace a larger section of line with rubber.

Hello Phil, what size of hose did you mentioned that you are using to connect?

I used 5/32 or close to 4mm rubber tube that I picked up from the auto parts store. I did size it by cutting out a small section of the plastic line and took it with me so I could get the correct size.

A silicone cocktail straw from the Walmart set does the trick even better, as I believe it will serve longer, Still, there are quite affordable replacement kits :)
