    I replaced one of my rear wheel bearings today, I believe it was louder than yours! My Dart is a 2015 SE. I'm not sure what made it so special but the caliper bracket bolts where you had an 8 mm hex was a T50 Torx screw on mine. It took a minute to figure out why the 8mm hex wasn't fitting.

    I just did both rear wheels on my 2013 Dart Aero. the brake caliper screw is a 14mm, but the handbrake cable is in the way, so a socket doesn't fit. A crescent wrench was able loosen it without rounding, thankfully. The brake frame screws are 8mm hex/allen. You definitely want to buy the hex socket. An allen wrench does not provide enough torque and hex screws are notorious for camming out. Since you have the brakes apart (don't lose the wire springs) I'd check caliper pins and lube them and make sure the pads move freely in the guides (don't forget to compress the cylinder for reinstall). My rotational noise was actually brakes. The mechnic who did the brakes crammed tight pads into the guides and the pads were seized with rusting occuring on the backside of the rotor. If you want to see if the bearing is bad, the bearings on the rear wheel are exposed and you can see them when you remove the dust cap. Personally, I washed out the crappy grease with brake cleaner and repack with Lucas Red #2. Oh, leave the dust cover in alone, its not in the way at all, saves you dealing with 3 small bolts that can snap due to rust. I would just align the rotor with the 5mm alignment screw. Its whole purpose is to retain the rotor temporarily while you mount the wheel. No need to waste time with 3 lug nuts.

    Hello great video! But I have a question about the torx socket, is it a T47 because looked for it and the T style has the torx bit in it?

  • @FierceMotorworks

    @FierceMotorworks

    2 жыл бұрын

    It is technically a torx "bit" but the other end has a socket connector so it can be connected to a ratcheting wrench like a socket. Sockets are hollow and used to grab hex nuts/bolts. So torx bit, socket, the wording is sort of interchangeable in my opinion.

    any idea how to remove seized dust cap on the bearing I tried on my dart same way with screwdriver and cant seem to get it off

  • @FierceMotorworks

    @FierceMotorworks

    You can try using penetrating fluid/WD40 to let it soak and possibly loosen the rust. You could also try a thinner screwdriver to wedge into the groove. And if those don't work, go ahead and destroy it to get it off. The metal is fairly thin, so if you hit it hard enough to bend the rim and break it free from the hub walls. Just make sure you can source a new one to replace after you're done.

  • @kanetao

    @kanetao

    The trick is to hammer a thinner screwdriver straight down between the ridge and the hub. It has to be thin enough, but don't pry (I snapped the tip). Once you get that initial 1mm gap then go around and tip the screwdriver back towards the rotor and hammer again while rotating. You should get to 2mm gap this way. A larger screwdriver should easily pry the rest of the way

  • @FierceMotorworks

    @FierceMotorworks

    Use a penetrating fluid and let them soak (preferably a few hours for best results). Most important thing is not to strip the bolts/round it off otherwise it will be even harder to remove.
