Am I the only one that actually thinks that first ride the moment my buddies Dad stood on it changed the rest of my life.. lol To this day the only car ride that even came close to the same wow factor was a 8-10 years ago when a customer took me for a ride around the block in a 2004 Porsche 997 Turbo. Fantastic. People swoon over the 69 and often 70 Chargers but I personally think the 68 was the best year. The full black grill withiout the divider that the 69 had or the chrome strip that the 70 had gave it the most menacing look. Combine that with the quad round taillights and it just looked perfect to me. Don't get me wrong, the others looked great but the 68 is my absolute dream car.

Back in 69 my sister's boyfriend had one of these, a copper color with vinyl top 440 RT. He handed me the keys and said to go ahead and take it out. It definitely had a good edge in power over the GM 400 cube cars I was more used to. My main memory was the induction roar of the unsilenced factory air cleaner and the drive on ice feel of the over-boosted steering.

Car sounds great! I'm not a giant Mopar guy, but they've grown on me. Inherited a '69 Roadrunner with a 440 from my Uncle who passed away last August and fucking love it. I think it's the unbridled power of these big ass v8's that just soothes the soul, she's got a 440 in her but originally was a 383 car (he even left the 383 badge on the hood :P) This car means too much to me to ever let her go tho, too many personal touches from him and my Grandpa that, it would just feel wrong not having it kept in family :) Won't lie, I lay in to her any chance I get...he really dialed this car in perfectly and she just fucking moves like no tomorrow. Just wish we could've gone and picked the car up in-person and him see the shitty grins on our face when the pedal met the floor. Slight comfort is knowing he's our Private Malone :)

Drove it from S.F. to Dallas in 18 hours. 68 is such a beautiful machine. I love the view through the rear view mirror. Anyone that has driven a 68 knows what I am talking about.

Bill Breck Dodge was the ONLY Dodge dealer in dusty and much-smaller-then Tucson, Arizona in 1968....when this Charger was new. One of my best friend's Dads from 7th-8th grade in 1968 was a wealthy mortuary owner and was really tight with Bill Breck...the dealership owner. One day....my buddy's Dad came home with a brand-spankin' new '68 Charger! If I'm not mistaken (hard-core MoPar guys....please verify this) it was an actual RT/SE model. It was the 440 / 4bbl with the automatic on the column, and was equipped with AirCond, PS, PB, PwrWindows/locks, etc. It was a beautiful white w/black vinyl top and a gorgeous white leather interior. As I recall....it DID have the black circular stripe that went around the trunk/sides/of the car. Oh man.....I was so into MuscleCars back then anyway at age 13, and had seen these in a couple of magazines when this new model broke out with it's new body style, but I never realized how LOW and sleek it was. It had the same chrome exhaust tips as this car in the video. Man.....that car would haul ass! BUT.....the gas mileage was horrible, and I swear I can close my eyes right now and STILL HEAR my bud's old man saying "it'll pass everything but a gas station".... After a year or so, he got rid of it...totally due to the mileage. OMG, I'd love to see that car today.....surely it's still out there somewhere....it was too beautiful and highly optioned to have been crushed, probably. I go to Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale every winter as well as get Hemmings every month, and look for it in both places....but I've never seen it. I'm now 65....I hope I do before I pass on someday. Man, that thing would boil and smoke those tires when you power-braked it.....and just keep boiling them for a long long way when you let off the brake. I'll never forget it. Maybe some MoPar freak that knows of a match to that car could let me know....man, I'd love to see it again and correspond with the new owner about it. Fingers and toes are crossed! joel in tucson

My father and grandfather bought a "70 Charger 440 to sup-up together when I was a toddler in the early '70s. I remember hearing that thing coming down the road from my front yard swing set. It was a dark blue with that white band around the tail and 5 pt seat-belts, and a blower poking out from under the hood. It was fucking gorgeous. My father had to sell it in '85 to pay for my grandpa's hospital bills and funeral expenses. It went to a good home, a friend of my dad and grandpa who loved that car too and would take care of it. I found out a few years back that the car was still in their family, the oldest son has it and said I could take a ride in it with him anytime. I think I'll call him soon and take him up on that offer.
