The side shot is giving me Mr. Robot vibes. Nice work and great description. Another benefit of that background light is that you’ve created the checkerboard effect with light and dark. Dark background to camera left, then his face is bright, then dark face camera right, then bright light behind his dark side. It’s very pleasing and the way you shaped that light was also rad and gave it so much style. Big fan of your work, have been for a while, bravo!

Subscribed! This is that breath of fresh air I needed. Docs are where I want to go as well. I'm in the grappling world outside of filmmaking too so this is right up my alley. Once you mentioned Wes Anderson I was sold. Excellent work sir, grabbing a cup of coffee about to check out the rest of your work (which is beautiful).

Awesome video bro. Also I think you'd be surprised at how small some (not all) of the "Netflix" type docs really are. I've been on a couple myself and some are very similar to what you showed with the wrestler.

On my other channel, I've had several times where different POV cameras were covered or not recording or died, and I was stuck with just one angle which sucked for my typical production quality even though it was a story I really wanted to tell. (This was on GoPros for a airsoft video i was making)

this is a very useful video. I just can not get my head around to this type of framing, not talking about your work but even on Netflix I have seen, but god I hate it. :)) Personal of course.

Really liked this! Why did you set the camera's white balance at a different kelvin than your key light at 5600k? Shouldn't it match the keylight?

  • @dathofilms

Sorry to jump in, but generally I would white balance on the key light on Face.

How did you get that slight glow on the shots of you, and in your interview? Did you do that in post or use some kind of mist filter?

  • @carlostigs

1/8 pro mist and “glow” in davinci resolve but at a low percentage

Tip number 1: Plug mic into camera Tip number 2: Have back up audio in case 1st mic doesn’t work Lol. We have all been there where we forgot to do something. My favourite is not hitting the record button properly and I think it is recording.

The B Camera was framed wrong; he should have been on the right side of the frame so he could have had look room. Only frame someone without look room if you have a good reason to. In example: if their character had committed a crime and you interview him before he knows he is going to jail it would imply he didn't see that coming. Sorry for being harsh I do like your videos.

I think Carlo knows very well about the effect of framing. As he already said in the video, he always has new ideas and tries them out if he thinks that it fits in the specific situation.

Maybe I didn't catch it but... why is there NO space between the subject and the direction he's looking at on his B Cam? It NEVER looks good. Even if it's an artistic choice.
