My thyroid was removed 50 years ago. I have Hashimoto’s as well. I am on Armour Thyroid AND Cytomel (T3). I am 75 years old I feel great. Endocrinologist are the worse! I go to a D.O. Instead of a MD. You are 100% correct! It is a shame what Thyroid patients have to go through.

Forty years ago, a doctor at Washington State University said most thyroid tests are not sensitive enough to pick up thyroid problems. My tests always came back normal but I had every symptom of hypothyroid after my second child was born - hair loss, cold all the time, tired, dry skin, constipation, and my grandmother had hypothyroid. I finally found a doctor who gave me levothyroxine, but it didn't work. She thought my thyroid was fine since the medication didn't work. After years of suffering, I found a doctor who prescribed Armour thyroid, and it saved me!

Mine was always right in the middle of the low - high level. In 2017, I went to a doctor who takes a functional medicine approach. It turns out the T4 level should read in the high level. And a doctor who thinks T-3 is speed, doesn’t know his pharmacology. wtf?

Further, the same doctor where I was found to be actually having a low level, that was also called normal, gave me a prescription vitamin D3. That is what helped me with energy the most, Later on when she told me my vitamin D3 was high enough that I could start taking an over the counter version. I figured out that taking it at night helped me wake up easier, the following morning .

So much courage to fight those doctors. Many of them are bullies who get kickbacks from big pharma. They don't listen to patients and they don't address the needs of a patient's complete well being. Having a medical condition is not just debilitating and frustrating on a personal level, it's infuriating when you have to fight with a doctor to treat you and make you well using only the medication that will help YOU the most.

The doctors probably get more kickback from prescribing Syn throid than NDTs. They don't care if people feel better or not. If you don't get complete symptom relief, you will develop further issues and need to be in the doctor's office more often.

For anyone having issues finding a doctor to prescribe Armour, you do not need to see an endocrinologist. Your primary care physician can manage thyroid medication and are often willing to prescribe Armour. Another option is to see a functional medicine doctor, which is what I recommend. If you cannot see a functional medicine doctor, go with a Nurse Practitioner. They're much more likely to be open to prescribe Armour or other NDTs.

Hi 🙂 I convinced my Endocrinologist to switch me to Armour thyroid. After she did the scare tactic on all the heart palpitations you will get from Armour. ( I’ve been on Synthroid for over 30 yrs) After some research I found out that in 2021 the coupany that makes Armour was bought out by the company that makes Synthroid. And they changed the formula. Long time users say the side affects are bad. Horrible anxiety. Behavioral issues. Heart palpitations etc. Such BS. Synthetic Synthroid causes a huge amount of secondary damage to your body. Bottom line it’s all about the money. I’m trying to stop taking the meds period. It can be done. I asked about checking my Iodine levels and the doctor looked at me like I lost my mind. She said they have no way of checking that. Really ? Pharmacies have test kits. The goal is to get you sick through your food that is toxic and keep you sick so you are a repeat customers.

I had a holistic doctor working with me to adjust bioidentical hormones and on thyroid issues. He started me with Levothyroxin, but when it didn't help, suggested Armour thyroid or NP thyroid. So I was going to a compounding pharmacy for the bioidentical hormones and NP thyroid. When that doctor died last year, I asked the compounding pharmacist what other doctors in the area are prescribing similarly. He emailed me a list of about 10 doctors in the area, so I was able to call and find out which doctors on the list accept my insurance and have found another doctor who is of a like mindset. Pharmacists, especially compounding pharmacists, are very helpful, because they have the knowledge of which doctors in the community are already prescribing with a view to the more natural options.

I was put on synthroid at 43 years of age and after about 6 years I was feeling anxious, angry, anti social, and I was experiencing neck and arm pain. I researched synthroid and back then there was ton on the internet of how horrible synthroid was. They have since scrubbed it from the internet. I found a doctor who proscribed Armour and literally in two weeks my persistent neck pain was completely gone and eventually all the other symptoms went away. My MIL had the same horrible reaction to synthroid. When I moved to Florida no one at Cleveland Clinic would proscribe it but a doctor there told me about a sole practitioner who would, thank goodness! The amount of ignorance in the PCP community about thyroid function is very high. My thyroid function was inadequate for years before my cancer was found by accident. I knew that I had a problem but didn't want to fight with my MD over it. The patient is not listened to when dealing with thyroid function. They refuse to prescribe it because they don’t make any kickback money on it. Natural thyroid is very inexpensive, whereas the synthetics are very costly. Doctors get a diversity of incentives for every script they write. Insurance is also refusing to cover it. This is all about $$$ and the doctors are controlled by hedge fund investors along with the pharmaceutical and insurance companies they own. I tell these doctors what they need to hear: (1) I know what’s best for my body (2) one size fits all medicine is malpractice. (3) I’m not a statistic on an insurance chart, I’m a dynamic living organism with unique genetics that no one else has, with a long well understood personal history of trial and error (4) I know pharmaceutical companies offer incentives for their products being prescribed but Armour doesn’t.

I bit of clarification: every NDT (natural desiccated pig thyroid) med I'm familiar with isn't desiccated pig thyroid compounded into tablets, but rather an extract of desiccated pig thyroid controlled for T4 (prohormone same as synthroid) and T3 (active hormone) content compounded in tablets. I've been self medicating with such NDT tablets out of Thailand for decades without issue after my Doc who prescribed NDT tablets retired. Sadly, there's only one supplier still left there (Thyroid-S) and price has gone way up, but still cost competitive with any USA NDT tablets I'm aware of, and no need to get prescription from USA Doc or NP. Your report that most USA Docs near you won't prescribe separate T4 and T3 tablets, at least as a transition before trying T4 alone (for someone who's been on NDT tablets), is most disturbing. FDA wouldn't allow sale of separate T3 tablets if there was a problem taking them with T4 under a Doc or NP's supervision. Humans aren't uniform manufactured goods. T4 alone may be fine for many hypothyroid patients, but it doesn't work for everyone. These same physicians would think nothing of trial switching a patient with high bp from an ACE inhibitor to a calcium channel blocker and/or a beta blocker, if the ACE inhibitor wasn't bringing down their bp. Seems nuts to take a one size fits all approach with hypothyroidism.

You just described my exact life! I finally got a regular doctor to try me on Liothyronine (Cytamel) I felt soooo much better! It wasn't the Armour like I wanted but it did stop my headaches, hair loss, weight gain, extreme exhaustion, brain fog, etc until Covid hit (which I never got and never took the shots) and their offices closed for a time then only took a few patients at a time and it took forever to get an appointment to get labs done and the Lio adjusted. By 6 months out my numbers were so bad they tried to get me into a hospital. I absolutely refuse to go to those death factories! The doc insisted we go back on Levothyroxin and it went downhill again from there. Oh but my numbers are 'decent'. I have a lot of sensitivities and inflammation with the Hashimoto's as well. No Corn, Wheat, Soy, Dairy (I can only use A2 raw milk), no make up, I make my own soaps, lotions, cleaning supplies, laundry powder and I take a ton of supplements like B vitamins but my body is not absorbing the supplements very well. I'm starting to think the Levothyroxin ( created by the devil himself I think) caused all of that from the beginning. I eat only organic foods I grow and make from scratch. But still life is miserable. I keep praying for an answer (a miracle?). I'm 60 now and look like my grandmother. I don't take any other prescriptions besides the Levo either. Autoimmune diseases are very susceptible to stress and finding that thyroid treatment plan and medication that is best for you is worth the time and effort. It makes all the difference in walking the tightrope of trying to manage living with disease. I do better when my foods are nutrient dense, high quality, low sugar, high protein and quality supplements including selenium, magnesium, zinc, theanine and P5P, among others. And so important to get a good night's sleep. Wish everyone here health and happiness.

Another issue with Armour is that one never has the appropriate amount of T3 in their body. The healthy body will create T3 in the appropriate amount for the body to function. I had the same story as you, my body couldn't transform T4 into T3 so synthroid didn't work for me and I was lucky enough to have a doctor who gave me Armour to try and I instantly felt alive again. Really, within 20 minutes I went from living in a fog to my usual energetic self. He did warn me that over time my joints would suffer from inevitable over dosage of T3 that triggers glycemic activity that eats away at joints. Still, having no choice I took Armour for around 20 years until I found a modality that healed my condition and I can now make my own T3. Unfortunately, I have had to have both knees and both hips replaced as they did degenerate as predicted. Now at 78 years old my new knees and hips are working really well thankfully,

I have been on Armour over thirty years but when it got hard to get some years ago I went to a compounding pharmacy. He mixed porcine with a probiotic and let me tell you I felt so good I was even thinking on going back to work. Then he sold the business and the new pharmacist instead of using a probiotics she was using that filler that starts with a M and I was having bad reactions to it. I had to go back to Armour which I react to also because of the filler but it’s the best that I have available for now. Hashitmotos is no joke.

I just got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I started on levothyroxin 25mcg felt really good for the first month. Losing weight and more energy. But I started feeling like my body was on fire, nervous, couldn’t sleep and had a odd feeling that my head was buzzing lol. So I stopped the medication. Waited for about 3 weeks than went to my doctors and told them how I stopped taking the medication and how I was feeling. My doctor actually suggested me taking armor. Saying it might do better for me. I got it filled about two days ago. I’ve been really nervous to start taking it. I don’t like taking medication’s anyway a few years back I had an allergic reaction to some medicine that I was taking and it really messed me up on wanting to start new medication’s. So planning on starting the armour thyro 30mg tomorrow. I’m hoping it helps I’m ready to get my life back. Tired of feeling tired all the time no energy, tired of dry skin not being able to lose weight and feeling depressed.

Wow, I totally agree with you and have been on Armour Thyroid for over 25 years. My GP did ask me to try Synthroid and I did not feel good on it after a few weeks. Since then, I've been back on Armour taking 60mg and an additional 15mg if my bloodwork indicates it's necessary. So frustrating and I hope you find the doctor who agrees with you on how to live your best life, as you said.

My doctor prescribed Levo for me years ago. I did not like it and went to 60mg Armour. I simply told him that the data I had read made me confident that it would do the job. I see him once every year and run a full set of labs not just pertaining to thyroid but extensive bloodwork as well. It has been 10 years. I read through the data and decide what I need to do. My doctor supports me and he knows I put in the work. I have always maintained a very high level of fitness and a very healthy diet. I am currently considering going Gluten Free to see if greater improvement can be had. I think the fitness is significant as well because my doctor initially was surprised I was not over weight nor sluggish. Sometimes you have to just push yourself a bit. I luckily went heavy on the Biology and Science in school which helped me to understand what I read as it pertains to health.

I have a doc willing to order Armour, but my insurance company and pharmacy have made this entire process so difficult!!! I have been trying to get Armour mailed with a couple of other regular meds… but they’ve stalled, gotten the information or order incorrect, etc, and this morning after a month of this nonsense, I received an expedited delivery of Synthroid!!! I opened the package and sobbed. After another hour and a half on the phone, the pharmacy promised that the order for Armour has been filled and I will receive it no later than Friday… color me skeptical.

There are key nutrients that play a role in converting t4 to t3. Once I got those into optimal ranges I did much better on Levothyroxine. However, I still did better on Armour. My cholesterol rises above normal on t4 only. I had no problem getting Armour for 10 years, then moved to a different state and ran into resistance. The endo put me on synthroid and asked me to try it out. It's been 3 years and I'm doing well but as mentioned my cholesterol is higher on t4 only. I have to work 10 times as hard to keep my cholesterol in check. The good news is that I can get Armour if I needed it. There is a list of Natural Dessicated prescribing doctors online for each state and several are in my area. Also there are several virtual physicians online who prescribe Armour and their fees are low (about $40 per visit).

When I asked about trying Armour a few months ago he made some bar room joke about scrapping the floor of a pig locker for hotdogs and thyroid or something to that effect. I went two days without meds and I woke up feeling so much better. I’ve decided to pursue Tirosint but in the meantime I’m on Armour. I never did give Armour an honest try. I’ve been cautioned by a few endos and the pharmacist for the same reasons you’ve been told. It was my functional dr that prescribed the Armour last year. Armor thyroid is made in large batches. For whatever reason the batches are NEVER exactly the same. The strength will vary just a little bit. Either a little higher or lower than the batch before. Also, it’s made from pigs and a lot of people see pigs as unclean animals. That’s one reason why doctors switch patients to Synthroid. Every batch is exactly the same as the one before and the ones after. Doctors know the patient is getting the same strength medication each time so the lab reports will be extremely accurate. I have hypothyroidism that began when I was 12. I started on Proloid, then switched to Armor Thyroid and then Synthroid when I was 34, so it’s been about 25 years I’ve been on Synthroid. When I was pregnant for the second time my thyroid gland produced too much thyroid hormone so the Synthroid med had to be adjusted for a few months. I see no good reason to take you off the Armor thyroid IF your doing well on it. If possible, depending on if you have insurance or not buy one year supply or at least a few months worth at a time. This should ensure all your tablets come from one batch, hopefully. Tell the pharmacist your situation and they might be able to order a large bottle with the same lot. The doctor will have to put on the RX a years supply given all at one time. Call different pharmacies and check the prices. You may have to pay out of pocket for the Armor brand. It’s about $1 per tablet. Check with older doctors. They would be more likely to prescribe the Armor brand. The younger docs have been taught not to use it. I once paid out of pocket for a brand name rx because I liked it more than the generic. To me it was worth every penny. I’m not a doctor. These are my opinions. 😊 Gotta legally cover my bootie. I wish you the best. 😊

When a doctor told me the very same thing the doctors told you, I asked the pharmacist about that. The pharmacist said, they cannot stabilize the synthetics any more than they can stabilize the natural brands, no difference. Stayed on Armour for years. Another interesting thing I learned about doctors and drug reps, is, doctors get "perks" from pharmaceutical companies to prescribe certain drugs. Wishing everyone the best of luck on their journey to good health.

Another thing I recall, there is a "full spectrum" thyroid test that covers much more than the FreeT4 and Free T3 tests. Unfortunately many will not get diagnosed until losing their jobs and worse. Just like a neighbor we had years ago. The endocrinologist kept telling her she was fine when she, clearly, was not fine!

Interesting vid and interesting comments on this by others. I had a total thyroidectomy 25 years ago and have been on "thyroxine" or T4 as it's called here in Australia. "Armour" is a dirty word here and while I don't have the current hypothesis on it here, I would certainly say that there would be almost no endocrinologists prescribing it here. As for my T4 levels I have blood tests and adjust my own levels from time to time. I know my own body better than local doctors and endocrinologists.

Thank you so much for posting this video; it is very helpful. I am dealing with thyroid issues that I believe have been missed/ignored by my doctors over the years to the point I wound up on disability. Hopefully, I have finally found a doctor who will work with me. Two other doctors who write extensively on thyroid issues are Dr. Izabella Wentz and Dr. Datis Kharrazian. They practice functional medicine as well. What I also learned from another channel is that a reason some doctors only prescribe synthetic thyroid medication is because they are paid by the pharmaceutical company to do so.

My family doctor did prescribe Armour but it became too expensive for me to buy at hundreds of dollars a month ad insurance would no longer cover it! Imagine if that doctor knew what T3 dose I’m on, he would think I’m a druggy. No, I need 75 mcg 2X a day of T3, even when I’m a (US) size 2/4. I’ve seen a lot of people who take 50+ mcg per day.. but some doctors need more education. I highly recommend Paul Robinson and the book called, Mitochondria not Hypochondria. I have similar story. I have Hashimotos and I went through 5 endocrinologists before one would listen to me. I was on synthyroid at first but after I had my thyroid removed ( cancer) it wasn’t working for me I tried Armour finally a doctor would prescribe it to me after I begged. I felt so much better right away! But then they recalled it because it was giving people bad side effects, they later fixed the problem with new formula. I was put in Natutethyroid but after a year that was recalled too for some reasons or maybe it was there was a shortage? Anyway I’m now on NPthyroid now but still have issues now and again. I think my first endocrinologist didn’t want to prescribe Armour because he did not know how to manage it, he had no experience with it. That’s understandable but he never said that he just said let me prescribe me a anti instead I’m like no thanks!! I knew better. I still have bouts of depression here and there because of it.

This has everyone needing an anti-inflammatory to feel better. Actually, it has nothing to do with labs. The issue comes in when women are unable to metabolize T4 into the active form of T3. Synthetic T4 is useless if your body in whatever dose you are prescribed is unable to activate it into the T3, which your body needs.

So I had Radio iodine treatment to destroy my thyroid gland. I was then put on synthetic thyroid meds and I had a severe allergic reaction to all of them. I now take desiccated thyroid and if I was not able to get it I would literally die. It took several years of adjusting the dose to get my labs in the normal range but I’ve been stable now for many years. I wasn’t aware however that the dosage needs to be adjusted when you lose weight. My Endocrinologist never mentioned that to me. But I have lost about 25 lbs. but my levels appear to still be stable.
