About Kate's "I saw you walk!": the whole giggle stands for the way discussions become very toxic and populist quickly today, especially in social media. And it's funny and sad at the same time that Kate's way of attacking Shirley mirrors the way haters attacked the actress (Ruth Madeley) after she was seen crossing her legs in the Star Beast. It's some kind of weird accusing wheelchair users who aren't completely unable to move their legs that they would fake their handicap to get attention or benefits. Vile stuff that I guess Ruth Madeley had to endure her whole life.

  • @CrankyGrandma

Yes, exactly! She’s an ambulatory wheelchair user. A lot of people have no idea what that is! I spent some time in that category. Not everyone in a wheelchair is paraplegic… there are many reasons one needs a chair, all the time, most of the time, some of the time (I was in that last category).

I remember when I first heard that line I actually thought it wasn't about the attacks ambulatory wheelchair users face but instead Kate actually saw Shirley walking but it isn't actually Shirley, rather someone else. In Wild Blue Yonder, we were introduced to the Not-Things who can copy another's appearance. What if a Not-Thing managed to invade Earth & disguised as Shirley? So when Kate saw Shirley walking, she didn't see Shirley walking, she saw Not-Shirley walking. Doesn't have to be a Not-Thing, could be another being capable of changing appearance. Maybe that shapeshifter is who we see pick up the gold tooth?

In the novelisation and the script (a cut line) it is mentioned that the Doctor regenerated atop the clifftop only 15 HOURS ago which means that in less than a day the Doctor has been subjected to TWO villains doing song and dance numbers which makes it even more hilarious! And i'm fine with the Bigeneration as it is implied that the 14th Doctor will eventually regenerate and is then brought back in time to the point of the Bigeneration as the 15th Doctor, though my biggest issue with Bigeneration is that it isnt explained very well, I can only come to this conclusion via lines that imply this since it is said 15 is older and "i'm fine because you fix yourself" but this whole concept is way more vague than it should be.

I like to think the David Tennant Doctor off-shoot eventually becomes the Curator. His other TARDIS could end up as the museum wing we see with Tom Baker in the 50th - this Doctor revisits “a few of his old faces, but just the old favourites.” Hopefully the bi-generation thing is a one-off, despite RTD’s comments to the contrary. Maybe it was only a possibility because the Toymaker’s rules were in effect, where myths and legends, like Time Lord bi-generation, can come to life. So we had a reference from Beep the Meep to “the boss,” and the reference here to “the one who waits,” and now the Toymaker saying his legions are coming. 🤔

Well uh no, the point of bi-generation enables the current incarnation to 'summon' their future self out of their own time-stream to assist them in a time of great need. One day DT will regenerate into Ncuti and then at some point after that, Ncuti will be plucked from his timeline and the next thing he'll see is the heli-pad.

@@william...1 What you describe I have heard before, but, at this point, it’s all fan speculation. None of what you said above is present in the episode or novelisation. The explanation I put forth works in the context of what was presented in the episode and is more straightforward. We’ll have to agree to disagree until the show itself clarifies. Reminds me of fans that still cling to the Fugitive Doctor being placed between Doctors 2 & 3, even after the show has clarified otherwise.

@@BSander88 “14: But you're fine. 15: I'm fine because you fixed yourself. We're Time Lords. We're doing rehab out of order.” There’s nothing in there about 15 getting miraculously reinserted into a timeline/incarnation that has now branched. You could also interpret that as 15 encouraging 14 to work on himself, just for the sake of doing the work for 14’s satisfaction & peace of mind. The 12th Doctor, by the end of his run had similarly put in that sort of development /growth and is much more “whole” than the start of their incarnation. 15 seems more whole/level-headed, at the outset of their incarnation, similar to how the 13th Doctor didn’t start with a lot of emotional baggage either. It’s great that two people can view a scene with a throwaway line like that - and come up with two completely different possibilities.

Again, I thought this was fine overall. NPH was great, as was Ncuti, and I enjoyed the first half or so of the episode a lot. Feels like it loses a lot of momentum once the bigeneration happens, as they dispatch the Toymaker far too easily/quickly, then it gets bogged down in explaining the new status quo and why there are two Tardis, etc. Drags the episode down a fair bit for me. As for the bigeneration... I feel it's similar to the metacrisis in that RTD clearly had the idea first, then twisted the lore and story to fit it. Both feel a bit ham-fisted and silly as a result, but it is what it is.

There's very little i don't like... exception being that i wish it was longer... as i wud have loved to explore the shop of the toymaker more... Only main negative is that line by Donna about coming in a range of colours 😮 But its fab... and every 60th ep turned out to be a multi Doctor (two doctors each time) stories in very different ways... very clever Here comes Ncuti's ❤❤

Glad you liked it, and glad you are just about caught up! Man, you’ve been racing through these! My ratings of the 60th were 1) Wild Blue Yonder (what the hell?😂), 2) The Giggle (mixed bag), and 3) Star Beast (did NOT like that one at all). I really hated the bi-generation… the doctor is one being, so how can he “bi regenerate”? Is he now two beings? The only way I can make sense of it, is if eventually Tennant Regenerates into Ncuti but somehow rigs it so he lands just where we saw him here. I really feel like Russell Davies just can’t let go of Tennant as the Doctor- in series four he cloned him, now … not sure what he did. It all didn’t sit well with me. But I’m really happy you got to see Ncuti “emerge”. I know you’ve been waiting for that moment! And I loved NPH in this. He’s amazing and brings energy to any role. I laughed so hard at everyone being right. The internet comes to life! :D. Looking forward to watching the Christmas Special reaction! Chapter one was everything pre time war (and post division if we take timeless child storyline into account), then chapter 2 was post time-war trauma. We end the giggle with 14 getting the rehab he needs to be able to heal from that trauma, taking us to 15 to start the 3rd chapter, which seems like the Doctor will be a bit lighter, less burdened by everything he's seen in the past.

NPH really stole the show & is the perfect cast for the Toymaker & whole time I was on the edge of my seat, especially during the Spice Girl scene. The VFX for when the building gets turned into a box, the Toymaker being folded like a shirt, & bigeneration are absolutely beautiful. Speaking of bigeneration, when I first saw it & 14th told them to pull, I honestly thought Donna & Mel were gonna rip the Doctor apart like he's a present & out pops 15th with the skin of a lifeless 14th on the floor 😂. I love the scene where 14th & 15th had a heart-to-heart However, there's many "I wish" that I have for this episode that would have me possibly give a higher score if it did happen (Currently it's around an 8.5/10 for me): - The Giggle should have been a 2 parter, or at least longer than it is. It just felt a bit fast paced. Plus I wanted the Toymaker to win so that in part 2 the opening could be a marionette show puppeteered by the Toymaker, with him singing the opening & instead of the logo "DOCTOR WHO", it's "TOYMAKER WHO" - Would have been nice if we saw more of what the Toymaker could do to show how powerful he is, such as when he mentioned ,"I toyed with supernovas, turned galaxies into spinning tops. I gambled with God and made him a jack-in-the-box" & "...I've played against the Guardians of Time and Space and shrank them into voodoo dolls". Sure we saw what he could do with bullets, buildings, & turning people into rubber balls, but I wouldn't mind seeing something more on a worldwide scale. Basically, I don't want the show to just tell us how powerful the Toymaker can be, I want the show to...well show us how powerful he can be - I don't think we ever knew what the Toymaker wanted as his prize. Is it the same as last time or is it something else? Would have been nice to see what he wanted & how the Doctors have to face it. As I've mentioned in your previous 2 reactions for the 60th, I love moments where the Doctor feels hopeless, all is lost. The 15th, Donna, & Mel having to encourage 14th to press on, allowing him to stand up again ready to face the Toymaker, oh that would be a sight! - I want to see the Toymaker playing with people's lives, treating them like toys or literally turning them into toys. Imagine when they played ball they used the guards that got turned into a rubber ball? And when he's bored, of them, discard them, break them, incinerate them, etc.... them. - There should have been more games. Dude is literally the Toymaker, a being all about games, & I only remember ever seeing 2 games. I honestly wouldn't mind something like a D&D or (this really is the only thing I could think of) Mario Party where the Doctors have to face multiple challenges (or games). Whole time, the Toymaker is just watching them as if he's the player. Bonus if the journey takes them to places we've seen before in past episodes, sort of a throwback kind of thing - 15th should have a bigger moment for his 1st debut. I wish we got something like a 10th & 11th in Day of the Doctor for 14th & 15th. Both going on a journey to beat the Toymaker & through the journey, we learn a bit more about this new Doctor. Plus, his first debut was him playing ball. Sure, it's against the Toymaker but it's freaking ball! And the Toymaker isn't even allowed to use any power of his so the Doctor is basically challenging someone who's on the level of a normal human! Excluding Classic Doctors & 9th (9th's 1st episode isn't really his first battle), - War: The fking Time War - 10th: Stopped the Sycorax from invading - 11th: Sealed a crack in time & space, captured Prisoner Zero, & protected humanity from the Atraxi - 12th: Dealt with the Half-Face Man who had been harvesting people - 13th: Faced Tzim-Sha & Gathering Coils - 14th: Faced psychoplasm Daleks - 15th:... Played ball I'm not saying playing ball is bad, I don't mind it, I just wish we got to see more, which is why I mentioned wanting to see more games being played - This isn't really tied to The Giggle, but I want to see the aftermath. I felt like the message for the 1st half of The Giggle (People nowadays thinking only about themselves & how only their opinions matter, allowing them to be condescending) got dropped halfway through. People were literally fighting with each other, people died, heck there could have been so much more damage caused. How would people react towards one another? How many relationships ended? When Kate recovered & apologised, the people in UNIT understood & forgave her because they knew what was going on. But, what about the public? To them, it might have been feelings they've kept bottled. I'm not sure if UNIT or the government addressed that what happened wasn't the people's fault & I doubt they did. Even if they did, how many would believe? Time will be needed to heal those relationships. I don't want the next season to be all fine & dandy where nobody seems to remember The Giggle incident. At least a mention about it from a secondary character would be nice - This really is just me honestly, I kinda wanted to see Martha & if possible, Rose again. Martha because honestly, she's literally the only 10th companion who never got her David Tennant Doctor (Rose got Meta-Crisis Doctor, Donna got 14th, & Martha got... Mickey). I've never watched episodes with Mel in it, but when she said the line, "...because every single one of you is fantastic", I can't help but feel Rose would have been a better pick to say those lines since "fantastic" is the 9th Doctor's catchphrase & 9th told Rose to have a fantastic life. Plus, David & his old companions again, that would be nice to see Now, after watching all 3 60th's special, how does it compare to the 50th's? IMO, while I did say I prefer The Giggle to Day of the Doctor, I would have to say the 50th anniversary was way better than the 60th. The 60th simply felt like specials, that's it. It felt like your usual New Year special or Christmas special or the Series 4 specials, but it didn't feel like an anniversary special. I do think the 50th feels more like an end since it's meant to conclude the Time War arc, something we've been hearing about since the very start of NuWho, while 60ths felt like a new beginning. A new Doctor, myths becoming reality, the Boss, the One Who Waits, Toymaker's legion, & so much more. Truly can't wait! Fun facts & stuff I thought about after watching the episode: - According to RTD, the Toymaker changes accent often because the Toymaker is racist (I also found out that the word "celestial", which the Toymaker was called in the past (The Celestial Toymaker), is actually a derogatory term used to refer to Chinese emigrants to the United States, Canada, and Australia. Absolutely didn't know about that. Fans also theorised that the Toymaker changes his accent because the 1st Doctor bested the Toymaker by mimicking his voice - Also according to RTD, 14th & 15th weren't the only ones who bigenerated. The timeline itself bigenerated & now every incarnation of the Doctor is alive & whizzing about in their TARDIS. RTD is basically trying to create a "Doctorverse" (Whoniverse honestly is a better name imo) - "I made a jigsaw out of your history" is how RTD handled the whole Doctor origin. Is it what we had always known, the Doctor being born in Gallifrey? The Doctor being half-human? Or perhaps the Doctor being from another dimension & is known as the Timeless Child? To RTD, all are canon & caused by the Toymaker messing around with the Doctor's history - 2 throwbacks in around the first time the Doctor & Donna are in UNIT HQ: The news anchor being Trinity Wells who we saw in Aliens of London & the Archangel Network being mentioned - 1:46 OH MY GOSH IS THAT THE SHEPHERD'S BOY?! - 1:54 Bro, you're not the only one. We all thought Kate was gonna sucker punch the Doctor 😂 - 6:54 Is it me or does David look like he's enjoying this scene as the puppet a lot? He looks like he's trying his best not to break out of character & laugh! - 8:08 I like to think the many teeth shown are other beings that got sealed by the Toymaker - 9:08 Funny you should say that, because it was mentioned that the Avengers tower got sold, many joked that UNIT bought the Avengers tower & magically teleported to London - 10:47 From what we've seen in the past, regeneration energy is dangerous, capable of destroying the TARDIS, Daleks, & many other things....so why the hell is he allowing Donna & Mel to hold his hands? Dude bout to kamehameha them - Missed opportunity for 14th after seeing 15th for the 1st time to go: 14th: "Oh..." 15th: "What? What's wrong? Why do you look disappointed?... It's because I'm -" 14th: "No! No! I just.... I just thought maybe with two redheads surrounding me... my next incarnation could have been... ginger?" 15th: "... Are you saying I'm not ginger?" 14th: "...No." 15th: "Aw I wanted to be ginger! I've never been ginger." Dude really wanted to be ginger so bad. His mother-in-law is ginger & his new stepsister is also ginger - 12:46 You've probably guessed it, those laughters were from the Master's incarnations, including Missy. Show went from The Giggle to The Laugh. Also the one who picked up the gold tooth, has red nail polish. This is supposed to be a reference to Last of the Time Lords but iirc, the only one with red nail polish in this entire episode, is Kate Stewart

It's good to see you liking the bi-generation. I didn't when I first saw it because it felt like a cheap trick to me at the time (a myth we never heard of suddenly saves the day - really) but I got used to it. It's a nice way to introduce Ncuti anyway, explaining things to David. I would have liked it better if they'd made it clearer that it was possible because of the toymaker changing reality or maybe because of the Doctor-salt-thingy making literally everything possible. Here's still hoping that the latter one is the overarching theme of the next season and at the end of it we leave stuff, that's to fairy-tale-like, behind us again. It's nice though that at the moment the salt is actually used as a shield at Unit.

I love all three of these specials and how they feel like they're made from the template for series 3 and four. Star Beast is a bonkers mad season opener (Partners in Crime), Wild Blue Yonder a more sedate, creepy and contained episode (like Midnight) and then The Giggle is just a mad showy glitzy everything-and-the-kitchen-sink finale like Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords or Stolen Earth/Jounrey's End. My only complaint... I wanted more. Was a five episode run too much to ask? But Ncuti won me over in about two seconds flat. And no-one but NPH could have played the Toymaker. I hope he's back someday.

Toymaker challenged ncutis doctor just as tennent challenged toymaker too one more game - so rules of the game meant that two doctors could be in play

I thought that was a great and deserved ending that for Tennant Doctor. Everything that he went through, after everything that happened. He deserves to be happy for once and be with Donna because I always thought their relationship was a Brother and Sister relationship. That changed to the 15th Doctor was weird but a good idea because now we don’t need to worry about The Doctor changing his face all the time now. I know Donna said he change back to David was to come home but I don’t think it was. I think that face came back because he was to get redemption after what happened with Donna in series 4 so think The 14 Doctor having David face, objective was to get redemption for The 10th Doctor after what happened with Donna and give them a 2nd chance.

I don’t think you can theorise on what it might be when they already made it clear what it is 😂

will u react to each new episode ? about new era, i`m kinda excited but at the same time im worried, they said this era is more adressed to Gen Z, so idk what to think about it, lets hope it will be like Ood said: "this song is ending, but the story never ends" and russell will do a great job again! :)

I think once you lose the whole 'one regeneration used for 3 episodes' it's a great 3 parter, Neil Patrick Harris is probably the best villain of NuWho. I thought about the bigeneration thing and as long as you think after David Tennant has done his rehab him and the TARDIS merge back into the current it's fine

Did anyone remember that Turlough was the first red headed companion? I like the occasional reminders that the Doctor is the President of the World. I think the Doctor should have made the Toymaker human, it would have given Kate the pleasure of putting him in the deepest, darkest cell on the planet. I really don't like the new Tardis interior, it's only purpose is to show the money Disney's putting into the show.

well eternals copied the gallifreyan writing so this avenger tower is what they got on their end of the trade lol I like the bigeneration in the story, but I don't get some things RTD said about it irl afterwards, he said that at the moment of the bigeneration every incarnation of the doctor was split and some other weird shit, so I just go by what's said in the show, idk

So this episode was perfect ! And then here come the bi-generation.. It's not well explained and it give away the perfect ending of the 14th Doctor to accept his regeneration. The Ten-mania is here yet again.. But at least it give us some cool scene with 15th and I understand why they want to it that way. So yeah I accept it, but I will still prefer a standard regeneration for 14th. But again : Everything else was perfect !!!
