While Matt Smith is excellent at the role, I personally find his episodes ranging from "It's alright, I guess?" to "It's good." with no really excellent complete episodes (a single excellent scene does not an excellent episode make), but on the other hand, there are no bad episodes he is in imo. I honestly think Matt Smith suffers from the fact that the actors for Doctor before and after him were both amazing at their roles

Absolutely season 9 is about as close to a perfect doctor who season as you can get. But I get what you mean the capaldi era as a whole has aged brilliantly. He deserves more recognition and respect for being the doctor than he gets from people

Honestly, the few highlights I can give to Chibnall's era are the casting and the graphics. Who knows? Maybe Jodie Whittaker will be the revival's Colin Baker.

I wish they'd made more of Capaldi's 'Mick Jagger' rock Doctor, including making the theme itself a rock-inspired one. Such a great contrast to Matt Smith's 'young fogey in tweed'. A visibly older man who appears to be reliving his youth! A sort of wayward eternal-bachelor uncle, jamming out on some original celebrity-owned electric guitar he's 'borrowed' as he meditates in the console room! 🎸

looking back after 12 regenerated: I think this theme song summed up the 12th doctor very well.

“You said you wanted an axe fight!” “A musical instrument isn’t a weapon…” “And a daffodil isn’t a broadsword, BUT I STILL WON THE LAST ROUND!” *roaring cheers from the crowd* I adored that scene. It went from the darker series 8 to immediately sassy swagger and humor and ridiculousness. I love Capaldi lol

Pisses me off this theme was never released to download.

This should have been his theme for the remainder.

This should’ve been made the theme for the final Capaldi season. This showed Peter coming into his own as the Twelfth Doctor.

Damn shame this theme was only used for one episode... It should have stayed as the theme for the remainder of Capaldi's run...

Having not followed Dr Who since the Tom Baker era and picking back up during the David Tennant era, I like Peter Capaldi's depiction of Dr Who the best among all the newer doctors of this century. And this theme is simply the best among the modern incarnations of Dr Who as well!

I'm all for keeping this as the permanent 12 intro tune. I was instantly reminded of the intro used in the BFA story "The Horror of Glam Rock", but by still keeping the signature "weird bits" underneath the guitar, it makes it sound even better.

I love this theme but I don't think it should be kept... It was a gag much like having Clara's face in the titles in "Death in Heaven" was. I like how 12's era thus far has been really experimental.

Capaldi was actually kind of the perfect doctor... He starts out weird, odd, not what you wanted or expected; you miss the old ones, but you kinda already figured you would. He isn't them... ... But as time goes on, you realize that he isn't them because he's been them, and that shapes entirely who he is. It takes him till (the crazy hair instead of the barber cut) to really come in to his own, but that fits exactly what kind of doctor he was in a way? He's got all that baggage and knows it, for him to overcome that and become his own doctor isn't instant. But in the end he embodies exactly what you'd want out of the 12th reincarnation.

We need to keep this as the new doctor's theme!

+Wazzok1 It's not released the same way everywhere. Where I live it's still called season, and it's differentiated as Doctor Who 2005 in contrast to Classic Who.
