My hot take: I do wish the doctor would go back to the more bizarre sense of fashion, I love the capes, the scarf, the umbrella and yes the technicolor nightmare coat.

A friend of mine and I were disccussing this the other day, and we thought if you took a mix of Sacha Dhawan's Master waistcoat and pants, mixed up the pattern with Fourteenth's, and then put the coat, scarf, etc like the Master wore as 'the Doctor', it'd be a solid start for drifting back into the the older quirkier fashion. And if the question marks were too much, why not use a Gallifreyian symbol or something instead?

@@changvasejarik62 in the Jodi Whittaker last episode, 'The Power of the Doctor', the Master played by Sacha Dhawan swaps out of Jodi's outfit into a mix of the Doctor's previous clothes. 7's jumper, 5's celery, 2's trousers, 10's tie, 11's boots, 4's scarf and 13's coat. He was both mocking the Doctor but also making a very Doctor esque look so when he caused choas, he would ruin the Doctor's legacy. I thought if there was a mix of the Master's waistcoat and pants, and Fourteenth's waistcoat and pants, then add back in the scarf, the coat, etc it would acctually make a great outfit for the Doctor with the colours and style

I really liked Colin Baker. He was like House MD before House was a thing.

Colin's abrasive nature has such an unexpected energy to it, and when he did soften, it was truly a whirlwind of fun. The entire scene after the TARDIS turned into the organ lives rent free in my head, especially because of the harpsichord in the background. One of my favourite Classic incarnations, and Trial of a Timelord remains one of my top three favourite episodes across the entire run of the show.

I liked it, and I liked Colin Bakers Doctor. He was far from the worse as recent incarnations prove.

Idk, something always just rubbed me the wrong way how the 6th Doctor immediately starts talking shit on his previous incarnations and complementing himeslf on his looks, right after accusing his companion of being a spy and trying to choke her! Like, wtf? I like when the Doctor is humble, but 6 seems to be the most egotistical

The Doctor has always been a bit of an egotistical jerk. Like, the First Doctor was a mean, cruel, and selfish old man at first. He was constantly talking down to his companions and didn't seem to think much of them at all until Barbara actually ends up saving him and the TARDIS. That's when he starts actually showing some respect towards his human companions. Before then he just saw them as lesser beings. But even as the Doctor grew and changed over the years, he always had that rude, egotistical streak in him. Six just brings that side of him back to the forefront, unlike the others before him, so it's much more obvious. Since Colin Baker was fired, we obviously don't get to see Six's evolution into a better, kinder, more humble person throughout his life (on screen at least), but he does eventually get better. Then he regenerates into Seven and becomes a manipulative, egotistical jerk again, albeit better at hiding it from his companions and us viewers then Six was.

On paper, Peter Capaldi should have been a better Doctor than Colin Baker. In practice, Colin Baker makes Peter Capaldi look like a jabroni. Baker could actually pull off a more aggressive and ruthless Doctor without coming across as outright sociopathic because I always sense a pair of huge hearts hiding underneath. With Capaldi, I occasionally sensed one heart but never two until he was over halfway through his second season. I was rarely watching the Doctor. I was far more often watching Peter Capaldi try to play the Doctor. Colin Baker was the Doctor from top to bottom despite having worse writing. Furthermore, very few actors could swagger around in a ridiculous costume that they hate with all the confidence in the world. Only Colin Baker could wear that coat and look completely comfortable despite hating it.
