Doctor Who BOOM COMPLETELY SURPRISED ME! | Great Moffat Episode Or More BBC And Disney WOKE GARBAGE?

Ойын-сауық

What did I think of the latest Doctor Who episode "Boom" written by former Showrunner, Steven Moffat?
Was it more typical BBC and Disney woke trash like Russell T Davies' recent episodes or was it a gem?
Am I ready to say that Ncuti Gatwa feels like the Doctor?
Thank you for watching.

It's good that you are being honest. We are all individuals and can't be expected to always agree. Some will like and some won't and that's fine :) Personally I will not be watching it as I imagine this is a one off and the rest will be woke crap. I'd rather remember the Doctor as he should be !

@GoldenAgeGeek But what I did like even though it was a little bit small, was the mention of the 15th doctor loving fish fingers and custard. I thought that was a really nice scene. Considering Steven moffatt Wrote this episode

The original idea that the Dr could only regenerate 13 times was so accurate - Now Dr. Who is nothing like the original idea.

Gatwa’s Doctor shows no resilience like previous Doctors. 4th Doctor stood on a landmine but showed great courage. Gatwa’s Doctor cries a few times which is very human but he’s supposed to be an alien. It was better than the previous abysmal episodes but not fantastic. 6/10.

Well, I commend your honesty and appreciation for the episode. For me, pluses include more interesting concept, more restrained energy for the doctor, fewer blanket agenda inserts. But the minuses are larger for me. Even off-hand agenda remarks now irritate me, Gatwa weeps too much without context (longer history with Ruby is necessary ), the angry attack on faith (Anglican) offends me, (as opposed to connotation stretching to beliefs beyond Christian alone), so word choice matters. I guess what it boils down to is language and execution. The ‘fabricated war’ model used as an indictment of capitalism works better if the corporation actually manipulated a real war into existence. The mechanics of how that war proceeds on the battlefield make for compelling thought. Simply put, I might have written this story differently. This is five times better than Space Babies or Devil’s Chord, but on a scale of 1 to 10, when those episodes earned a 1, I can only give this a 5. Ultimately, as a single story it remains tethered to the Gatwa-RTD run. That hurts it. This would fit easily in the last season of Capaldi’s run. Standard Moffat, great concept, marred execution. Keep up the good work, Goldy!

I too wasn't quite convinced by the "war was faked" idea. Gatwa's not great at the Doc and the relationship with Ruby is odd.

@@gladiator652004 For me, yes…Gatwa still feels ‘Gatwa’ which is a problem. And I almost feel like they are repeating previous ‘impossible girl’ tropes for Ruby, while trying to fast track a relationship of some kind with Gatwa. Such things take time, and good writing. But RTD admitted in his recent interview that he doesn’t mind repeating elements since this is for a new younger audience. That is a big mistake. This may be a Moffat story, but he’s still forced to service RTD’s agenda.

I didn't have high expectations going into this one but this just proves when Moffat has time & doesn't have pressure on his shoulders. He writes master pieces. That was truly one of the best episodes we have had in the last five seasons. Made me feel like a child again tbh with how tense it was from start to finish. I felt Moffat gave Ncuti & Millie loads of good chemistry that didn't feel forced which is exactly what the new era needs. Dare I say this is somehow one of the best episodes of New Who aswell. If the show is to survive the writing needs to be held to this standard. Massive solid 9/10 from me.

the largest number of Dr. Who fans date back to the original idealisms not the current Wokeisms which are self-destructive. Yes let minorities do what they want in private but do not foist them on the majority. The UK is a tolerant society (or was when I was young) but respect the norms.

Haven't watched this (and won't be) but I did see/hear a lot of the usual commentators taking massive offense to the "war is big business" and "religion is the opiate of the masses" tropes that this episode espoused (solid points which are undeniably true to a large point) so credit to you for speaking your mind and not just jumping on the bandwagon. 👍 Side note: I can only imagine how terrific this season would be doing if they'd have cast Idris Elba as the Doctor and just let the episodes tell the stories without all the messaging insertions getting in the way. But alas...

@@GoldenAgeGeek The religion angle wasn't too subtle, plus Moffat still hasn't fully codified or explained the 'Anglican religion is an army' thing in much depth. Still, there was a bit more nuance in the wrap up, re faith. Overall a 7.5 out of 10, I thought. Bit sketchy in some parts.

Dr Who has been on the slide for years, (there was a deliberate attempt to kill off Dr. Who - it failed) but anything Disney gets involved in changes things to wokeism these days.

I disagree: the Doctor acting stupid and being unable to defuse a simple landmine, while loosing his cool? Ridiculous breaking of lore and style. And cooperating staging wars is nothing new, and those wars being for show is nothing new to SF, so no brownie points. But at least not as bad as the last shows before.

So the personal insertion of the writers dislike of Christianity is ok then ? I would be more impressed if he had made the soldiers followers of a certain demographic but that is not allowed ? He has done this before, yawn. He makes Dr Who to be a coward and a cry baby not the aeons old hero he really is. Saying you enjoyed this after watching the first 2 train wrecks is scant praise. Don't praise crap just because it is not as crap as that before. It is still crap.
