you realize that physicians won't get paid anywhere as much as they get paid now right? your student loan debt will still be 300k plus though. you'll just be a line factory worker for these hospitals. if the money part doesn't scare you, then imagine not ever having time for a personal life for 10 years. oh, and a baby? fertility drops after age 32 and really dips at 35.

The following advice are for those pursuing the PA/NP/MD route (Granting, I do recommend shadowing and volunteering first). PA Route: 1. Increase your Healthcare Exposure hours by working as a scribe (No license required), EMT, Medical Assistant, or other (it depends on the program's job preference but you may also need between 200 - 2000 hours) 2. Any bachelors degree is fine (Although, a healthcare related bachelors degree is personally better in my opinion, such as Respiratory Therapist, X-Ray Tech, and others. Rather than a broad science or non-science degree, which are completely fine by the way. Ask me why if you like). 3. You will have fluidity to work in many specialties as you please (OBGYN, Dermatology, *primary care*!!) NP route: 1. Have Healthcare Exposure hours by working as a nurse for some time. 2. Have a Bachelors of Nursing degree which is required and it *can't* be any other bachelors degree (there is an exception, please ask if you will like to know). 3. You will work in the specialty of your study with little to no fluidity, which is fine as long as you love your specialty (you can thank your shadowing and volunteering hours for this) e.g. OBGYN, Dermatology, *primary* *care* ect. MD route: 1. No prior working experience required (which more schools should because you dont want to spend 7-10 years and then find out you are not a people person. Just get a healthcare related job). 2. Any bachelors degree. 3. You will work in the specialty of your study with little to no fluidity. (Which is fine as long as you have passion for your speciality study. You can thank your shadowing and volunteering hours for this!) I am planning to make videos of my journey. I am just extending a helping hand because I wished someone would have told me this information which I am sharing with you all now. Best of luck. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Blessings.

This is such a great video! Great idea to have different areas of health care come together and compare each other. Regarding male nurses, from my experience they are in demand in many health care settings because they are able to lift heavier stuff than female nurses. But from what I've experienced working in long-term care settings, there are usually more female residents and they prefer working with female caregivers/nurses than male. So it highly depends on the area of health care you want to work in, but for the most part male nurses are in very high demand.

One big difference between NP and PA is that NP's tend to specialize in certain areas and PA's can perform whatever level of care their supervising physician feels they are competant in performing (able to change specialities). I am in California and up until recently there was a pathway in the law that allowed RN's to go through certain PA programs to graduate with both a PA and NP license. The vast majority of my PA class did have 4 year degrees and required 2000 hours of patient care experience ro get in. Additionally, you were also required to have some form of a healthcare lisence for admission. That tallied the total school up to anywhere between 5 to 7 years. Ultimately, the patients generally cant tell the difference between an NP, PA and frequently a physician. A good provider is a good provider! No matter the intitials after our name, we always need to remember the patient comes first!

Wow I mean, you guys definitely deserve those salaries, especially after the years of diligent work and paying into tuition. I'm so happy that's offered to you because I'm sure working in the medical field can be difficult. However, I wish counselors were paid better. I'm going to school for it because I love it but I know I'll never make 6 figures in my life, even with a lot of school, training, and clinical hours.

AnGrYRameN my last therapist had their own practice but still made a livable wage but not much better than that. Also, if you open your own practice, I'm not sure if you qualify for any sort of insurance or retirement plans which can be an issue. Most clinicians wait a while until they open their own practice, but you're right that it's a lot of work. I also agree that military psychologists may make better money as that job must be extremely difficult. Also, psychologists can be counselors but usually that requires a doctorate degree. Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm planning to work in a school setting so i'll make the same money as teachers despite having more schooling than them. :/ again, I'm going to love it but money will be tight.

Maybe you should try medical school then if you're interested in counseling. I think the reason why medical professionals are paid a lot because people's life are in their hands. Not saying counselors are unimportant because they deal with medicine, cutting people open, and etc. Nonetheless, money isn't everything.

  • @juliejealousy

coffeeyogamakeup92 oh no I see why doctors make more than counselors! I absolutely think that they should. However, I think that teachers and counselors should be able to make more of a livable wage in general. That's all. And I'm terrible at science and advanced math so I knew pursuing a bachelor of science wasn't for me, though some undergraduate psychology programs are in science instead of art.

For WA state an R.N. degree takes 3 years for your associates. It's about $17k. You get paid $23-35/hr. It can go up if you specialize to about $45-$50/hr. Employers want you to continue onto your B.S.N. For a nurse practitioner your looking at a D.N.P program (a BSN and a doctorate in nursing) typically 7 years. About $46k for your BSN degree and $78k-125k for your doctorate. You make $110k-$225k after experience and specializing. You can practice autonomously. P.A. is a 4 year undergrad in anything ($50k) and then 2 years for your Masters degree (+$80k). P.A. school requires 2000hrs of patient contact. Typically thru an EMT profession. P.A. make around $110k+. They must work under the supervision of a physician thus far. Then an MD $50k for a 4 year premed undergrad plus 4 years of medical school $250k-$330k depending on housing. You get paid as a resident around $50k/yr which is another 2+ years and fellowship (10-12 years total w/undergrad). After all of that you can start out at $175k and go up to $400k+. (However don't forget those student loans and interest). Some government programs will forgive or pay up to $75k toward a practitioners loan debt or even help with interest. Typically you have to work in a underserved area to qualify. Nice video!

This is an interesting video, since I want to be a midwife. I’ve done some searching online and I don’t know about everywhere else but here in Australia I don’t need my bachelors degree in nursing before hand because we have an option to get our bachelors degree in midwifery and that course includes the bachelors degree in nursing so we get a two in one c:

Nikkii Jane it's a little different from the midwifery in the US. Midwives in the US sees patients like a doctor and practice beyond delivery. That is why it is called midwifery and womens health. Other countries even run midwifery program as a diploma. Your certification will be equal to a US labor room's nurse with BSN not as a IS midwife. I hope you understand the difference

I think it's really important to emphasize the difference between nurse practitioners and nurses. A nursing background is what makes the NP profession so special, but NP school is NOT nursing school. Frequently in your video you said "nurse", as well as in your title, instead of NP. Just pointing out :) Loved the video!

Wow, you can become a nurse practitioner really quickly in America. In Australia, the job isn't as common as it seems to be in the States, and it can take nurses around 14 years to become an NP. Are there any US nurses out there who have oppinions on fast tracking the route to becoming an NP?

Bsum1 it take about 7 years in America... it will take less for me, since I went to community college and finished prerequisites very quick and then 2 year of bachelors degree. Then 2-3 years NP. Salaries are good too...about $150.000 in Cali

Thanks Unicorn Horse! Do you think you'll feel ready to be an NP with five years of study under your belt? Will you have much work experience by that point, or will those five years be strait uni with clinical placements?

  • @katherinecruz3818

    @katherinecruz3818

    5 жыл бұрын

@@bsum1290 NP schools need experience before they go back to school for NP. You need 4 years of undergrad... Bachelors in Science of Nursing.. and then use your knowledge on the floor, so assess head to toe, administer meds, knowledge of meds, and focus on pathophysiology... so when you do get into NP school.. many people go after a couple of years.. you will be familiar already of diseases and medications because you already went to school for it and worked. You will already know background pathophysiology and will need to take an even more advanced pathophysiology course, more medications, and deeper assessment skills, labs, scans and all for NPs so yes Nps will be ready when they leave school along with more clinical hours as a provider role.

I wish radiologic technologists were also referred to in this video. They are very important medical professions that allow for many options in their field. As well as offering a road into the medical field that doesn't take as much schooling. An associates degree and then two years in a radiology program is all you need to become a diagnostic tech. One has many options to specialize within the field to broaden their knowledge as well as make more money. I suggest more people who are interested in the medical field check out this profession if the years of schooling and massive tuition costs are scaring you away.

Re: the no bachelors thing, it used to be back in the day that med schools would accept students with only ~90 credit hours before they actually got their degrees. This practice has fallen out of favor and most schools require a degree now before matriculation. And schools that still have that policy rarely (if ever) admit students without a BA/BS.

The best part is that you do not need a license (just have a good type writing skills which any course in college can help you with). Best of luck! Get as much exposure as possible before making your decision. It is a 2 in 1 career (medical experience and you are getting paid). I hope this helps.
