Doctor Utopia Sells Isms in Make Mine Freedom 1948

In the late 1940s there were different, competing ideologies. Primarily it was about Communism versus Capitalism and this film reflects that struggle clearly falling on the side of Capitalism. But Its message about snake oil salesmen who will tell the public anything and then not deliver is unfortunately still relevant today.

    8:31 - "When anybody preaches disunity, tries to pit one of us against the other, through class warfare, race hatred or religious intolerance, you know that person seeks to rob us of our freedom and destroy our very lives." That's exactly what's going on today. We learned nothing.

    Yeah now we have two political parties that do it constantly. Keep people bickering while we as people don't see what is being done. Most jobs don't even have a union nowadays to help with workers rights and anti strike is literally in alot of companies operations. Because part of society have been convinced that unions just take dues and do nothing to help.

    IAN 4000, I would have to respectfully disagree. The United States was among the greatest and fastest growing economies on earth, and it was until the government decided to get involved in the economy, instead of allowing it to readjust organically, starting with the Theodore Roosevelt administration. FDR only made the problem permanent. The American economy has begun to slow down and lose its muster ever since. The Scandinavian nations are actually more capitalistic than America right now. That’s why they can afford an enormous welfare state. They know to leave the private sector alone. No socialist nation has ever succeeded long term. They always eventually run out of other people’s money to waste.

  • @IAmNumber4000

    @IAmNumber4000

    @@staarrliner4993 "Decided" to get involved with the economy lol. Productivity outpaced consumer demand in the late 1920's and produced the Great Depression. Without Keynesian deficit spending to make up the difference, capitalism would have collapsed permanently during that time period. If rightlibs ever achieved what they so desperately want, the "removal" of government from the economy, the result would be the permanent collapse of market capitalism and its replacement with Leninist-style state capitalism. You can't remove the state from capitalism because the state inherently makes up one half of the capitalist mode of production, with the private sector representing the other half. The increased productivity produced by automation, in conjunction with stagnant wages, produces a falling rate of profit. Capitalism has a definite life span and it is almost through.

  • @staarrliner4993

    @staarrliner4993

    2 жыл бұрын

    IAN 4000,I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. Productivity may have outpaced domestic demand, and America’s main trading partners were devastated economically after WWI, which meant that overproduction couldn’t be sold, so was at a loss. A lot of it was also due to federal reserve loans by farmers domestically, and loans given out to other countries, mostly in Europe after the war, which many defaulted on, dealing another blow to the American economy, again, caused by the federal government. The Great Depression could’ve been resolved much sooner, had people not expected the government to fix their problems, and never voted for FDR. His new deal actually exacerbated the economy because, sure, when there were things to build, it was okay, but once all the projects were finished, or the federal money ran out, everyone involved was unemployed again. People don’t really know that there was a pretty bad economic depression in the early ‘20’s, but it only lasted 18 months. You want to know why? Because the government didn’t bail people out, nor did they tighten their grip on the economy. How is half of a free market economy state run? That’s not capitalism, my friend. State capitalism is an oxymoron. If it’s state run, it cannot be free market by definition. That is socialism by nationalization. Nationalization is inherently socialist, and free markets are inherently capitalist. They cannot be switched around the way you’re trying say they can.
