I feel so vindicated by your anger at the alkaline water. When my baby was regularly near death in the hospital with recurrent bronchiolitis, I had a woman we know who sells alkaline water machines hounding me. She KNEW giving my baby (with dysphasia who couldn’t even breastfeed!) bottles of alkaline water would cure him, and accused me of being an abusive mom for not trying every possibility to help my child. She was blocked from our lives but the anger still rises up in me!

@R Kim I'm guessing the theory is that if stomach is acidic (ph2), and blood needs to be closer to neutral (ph7), then drinking alkaline will increase pH of stomach, thus giving health benefits. Unfortunately, this theory doesn't take into account that the stomach needs to be acidic to do it's job.

  • R Kim

There is far too much back in forth in the comments, so if the stomach has a ph of 2 and the blood cant have a range further than 7.45 without it being harmful then how is alkaline helpful? yeah didint think you had an answer.

It's pretty charming how this guy knows so much and comes in well prepared with medical facts and has well produced videos, but still has occasional bouts with bilingualism. More power Dr. Mike. Also, it's crazy how easily alcohol can diffuse. I was online drinking once with friends and probably because I got so wasted, I didn't seal the bottle of rhum properly. It was cheap local Tanduay rhum. Two weeks later when we were about to go drinking again I found that my rhum had reduced, tasted differently, and no longer had a kick to it.

@Miss Spaz also good luck, I used to live in Great Barrington, MA a little town with like 7 dispensaries. for me, heavy indicas at smaller doses are helpful for sleep, for other friends they don’t work at all. I hope over time the insomnia gets more manageable, it really is horrible and I hope you know you aren’t alone. lots of love

@Miss Spaz weed is psychoactive, and often people that report increased anxiety and paranoia do tend to have more stressful responses to weed. I would definitely try going and talking to the experts and any doctor that has experience providing medical marijuana. it’s not a one size fits all for everyone, and there are definitely easy ways to abuse it even if it helps for things like chronic insomnia. I’m quitting it rn, and this is a super weird suggestion to try that I never thought would help, but ice baths or FRIGID showers for like 2-3 mins a day (after you go numb you feel warm and as the habit builds it really becomes something i’ve looked forward to) has actually really helped with anxiety and therefore my insomnia. just a random suggestion

Struggled with sleep insomnia since I was extremely young my pediatrician blamed it on ADHD took the medicine he suggested I acted like a non human with no emotions and had severe hallucinations dk if it links until I practically passed out on the kitchen floor mom didn't take it seriously then my mom took me to a different doctor at 11 she blamed it on anxiety and depression but I don't know really I did have signs but they weren't as severe until I was thirteen yeah had quite a bit of trauma as a kid that either the counselor belittled or no one of believe be because it was all caused by my own mother. Yeah you never know what abuse victims look like just by appearance it might be inner struggles, I apologize for telling my story but I want people to be able to connect

Citrate isn't very absorbing. I've used it before and it gave me tummy issues. Now I'm just taking lysinate glycinate, which is a high absorbing magnesium. Doctor's best is the brand I'm taking but there's other brands too. And my leg cramps went away after I started taking it. It's great if you're getting enough. I wasnt so i gad to supplement. But if you do get deficient, just take the high absorption kind like I am.

If: 1) Your water is fairly clean or filtered and 2) kids still don't want to drink it then 3) think about adding a little fruit juice, or sugar-free drink mix (like Crystal Light), or making tea with it. - I have met some adults who hate the taste of water, and adding something to flavor it has improved their hydration.

Losing weight is kind of pointless if it doesn't come as part of a sustainable pattern you can keep up for the rest of your life (or at least return to as needed, without significant willpower investment). I learned this the hard way - lost lots of weight on a crazy starvation-based vitamin-shake diet, and it just came right back as I barrelled my way through college stress. Now, I've finally found a meal pattern that works for me. Protein, veggies, limited carbs - and of course, exercise. Walking is great, just got to find some zen and keep at it.

You’re 💯 right about honey. I grew up with my Dad being a semi-professional beekeeper. Having worked in the honey house, extracting honeycomb, my hands never felt smoother, and any incidental cuts (not in contact with the handling of honey) healed really fast, because honey cannot live in such a supersaturated solution.

For the water one, I think the oil is supposed to sit on top of the water to keep the whipped cream from dissolving in it. With the straw going in, the kids would pretty much just be drinking lemon water, but are decieved by the whipped cream and jelly beans thinking its dessert. Or you could just command them to drink the water, theyre kids

What upsets me the most is when people actually take the so-called "advice" and think that it's a cure all. And like Dr.Mike said, when people find out it doesn't work, especially patients who have been suffering because of their condition, it makes them feel even worse about themselves. So the "advice" isn't always harmless. I wish the internet could ban these types of videos.

Tap water being healthy depends on the country. Where I live (the Netherlands), the tap water is basically clean water and we can dri j out of the tap and call it genuinely healthy. Hell, all our plumbing is clean, really. You can drink from the tap, from the shower, even the toilet. We even have clean water in the toilet, so if you cleaned the toilet or it's a new one and never been used, you could legitimately drink from it and call it healthy water, because it's the same water that we have in the shower and the tap.

@William Jones Mmhm, ever heard the term "free water"? How much free water (which is essential for the growth and development of all terrestial life forms) is there in literal sugar? In pure, dry sugar? Which is also used to dehydrate fruit to inhibit the growth of microbes? I wonder what amount of free, actually biologically usable water there is in dehydrated, sugared fruit as compared to honey, which is an aqueous solution with a water content of ~20%. It's literally part of my job to grow microbes and nothing gets them growing like a good dose of sugar.

  • William Jones

    William Jones

@Midnight concentrated sugar is not an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, it’s why literal sugar doesn’t have a use by date. It’s anti bacterial. That’s why humanity preserved fruit by ladening it to the brim with sugar, so they had fruit through the winter.

  • Midnight

Eeh, all honey is antimicrobial. It's because it's a highly concentrated storage form of sugar, aka the perfect breeding ground for microbes, which is the reason why bees add antimicrobial enzymes and peptides and also antimicrobial small molecular compounds to it during its fermentation process. Manuka honey just tends to have a higher concentration of those substances.

Hey mike. I’ve got chronic insomnia for the last 22 years since I was eight. I sleep about 3 hours a night. No doctor has been able to help me… pills or “oils” or anything does not help. My brain does not shut down. I have also just sat in bed doing nothing with my eyes closed for hours until I give up and watch a movie or something till around 3am then I get up at 6am for work. It’s become so normal that I’m just so used to it and have given up talking to anybody about it. I will try a recommendation if you have something but otherwise I’ll stick with it for my life and just put up with it

Another good antibacterial besides honey is silver. A wound doctor once gave me something called silver alginate. It looks like a light gray piece of felt. It is infused with silver. He told me to put a piece of it over the wound whenever I changed my dressing. I put it on the wound, then put the gauze over that and then dressed the wound as usual. He said that before antibiotics, doctors would sometimes use silver, and now with resistance being what it is, many doctors are going back to some of the old ways. I've also heard that there are silver creams that can be used.

i love everything about this but about the alkaline water. In Portugal after some stomach surgeries they(doctors) recommended you drink water with like a 9ph for a few weeks after them. I'm not a doctor, i don't know why they ask for that. There's a specific brand of alkaline water that I particularly enjoy the taste of and if I have to buy bottled water for some reason I tend to go towards that one but I'd love to see Dr Mike talk about these recommendations
