I honestly had a lot of fun with latenna the albanauric archer summon. I played a paladin build and tried my best to keep aggro while my summon just pelts the enemy with arrows and it feels like a traditional rpg. Also in my 1st playthroughs of souls games, I usually just make a 1st playthrough build to be effective and fun to try to get through the ending and do a challenge run in the next playthrough.

Heavy Greatsword with frost/bleed paper, once you proc frost switch to bleed rinse and repeat. Maybe add the Talisman that buffs 20% atk for each bleed

Nobody cares about the other stuff you goober most people just don't use summons, if you struggle with the game so much you need them that's fine, but most people don't wanna play with training wheels on.

Look using Spirit Summons are just the first step in many people's journey. I used Spirit Summons on my first playthrough - it was my first Souls game after all. Now, 830 hours in Elden Ring later....I've beat every boss with every single type of build that you can imagine, all without spirit summons. Most playthroughs I beat Malenia in 5 tries or less. I've come a long way, and maybe Doc will too. Let people play how they want to play.

I was watching a blind playthru (GrubbyPlays) - an RTS champion, but From noob. A perfect success story of summons. He needed Rogier & a spirit to tackle Margit. He tried without, couldn't, he sucked. But he loved the game right from the start. So he 'cheated' to get thru Margit, to continue. He gradually got better, and had a big matrix moment with Godfrey/Hoarah Loux. He said he never finishes single player games, but finished ER and you can tell he's hooked. Watching speed run vids, lore vids, can't wait for DLC, deciding which older From game to try next - a true From fan was born. Without summons, he likely would've tapped out on Margit, and wouldn't have experienced this truly epic game.

Miyazaki would not have included spirit summons if they weren't supposed to be used. So those people are wrong. The only "invalid" way to play imo, is maybe using an actual cheat, duping souls, or getting a late game weapon early, but even in regards to that last one, the game still lets you get it via trading, so I don't feel super strong about it. If a stranger drops you a rivers of blood, it's still mechanically sound, even if you aren't supposed to get it until 75% of the way through the game. I went invading the other day and healed the host and his summons with warming stones and the summon tossed me a rivers. I guess just don't accuse the game of being "easy" if you get a late game weapon early and break the early game?

People are just mad he didn’t struggle as much because he didn’t object himself to a superficial high horse of “not using summons”

It's not a high horse to play the game the way it was clearly balanced. The main challenge of Elden Ring bosses is their deceptive movesets that take time to learn and master. Using summons completely negates that mechanic. If you like using summons, that's fine, but don't pretend that not using them is some kind of psychotic challenge for only the top 1%.

There's was 3 souls games, sekiro, and bloodborne all without summons. Thousands of us beat the previous titles without them, so It's not a crazy feat to beat the game without them now. I killed malenia in first try with mimic. I didn't even learn her moveset. It was Pokémon fight and I was only watching cutscenes. So, in a way, mimic is equivalent to bypassing the boss.

Only bosses I summoned for were Radahn, Rykard, Magma Wrym Makar(2 summon signs outside door), I summoned nobody for the entirety of Mountaintops of Giants, Crumbling Farum Azula, Moghwyn palace, and Haligtree. Beating endgame bosses with no summons is Major Big D Energy

Seen a lot of KZreadrs play with the Blasphemous Blasde + Mimic tear, speed-killing is fine but I prefer style

he didn’t cheat in any sense of the word but i do think he made it slightly easier on himself. but, the game was designed to be an introductory game for people that never played a souls game before so you can’t be upset about it. i think he should play the older souls games to see how he fairs in those. if he’s up for a better challenge and wants to see just how good he is, he’d give it a shot. each to their own, though. i also think he’s acting this way because that’s his character as the doc. he’s gonna try to upset die hard fans and belittle them.

To be honest, even the old games give you ways to invalidate their difficulty with summons. Solaire absolutely steam rolls bosses and the DS2 summons are also very good. DS3 is probably the only game I can think of where AI summons aren't broken, but all of the souls games allow for online play, and that can invalidate the game's difficulty, too.

I want to see the people who say using a summon is a cheat wash clothes without a washing machine. I mean, it's kind of cheating, and they also want the game to be hard, right? Right?

I love the summons so much. I use them in basically every fight cause it's part of the fantasy that is Elden Ring. Having gone through every game (Demon Souls to Sekiro) many times over the years, it's just enjoyable to not have to face a fight alone. I get to channel some of that Solo Leveling energy.

Look it’s your game, play however you want, but if you expect others to give you a standing ovation for summoning an NPC to fight the boss for you while you stand in the corner of the room watching I think is a reach, the reason summons are in the game to begin with is so unskilled players can progress without learning the mechanics and trivializing every challenge, which kinda goes against the whole point of playing a souls game, as a streamer, people are watching to see him improve, learn the game dynamics , go through the same challenges and hardships they went through and rise above, get better as a player as all souls players did (the public he wants to reach with this series), by the end of his play through he was playing exactly the same way as in day 1, learned nothing about the game and missed the whole point of playing a game like Elden Ring, summing it up, people aren’t complaining that he beat the game cheesing it, people are complaining that he missed the whole point of it, both as a gamer and an entertainer and essentially waisted his first play through

Coming from a person who beat the entire game, and all side content (including SOTE) without support of a mimic or player. It doesn't make you morally superior to not use a mimic. The bad thing about elden ring is the players that think you have to play a certain way. I use the mimic and it's a mechanic in the game.

I have no problem with summons even though I don’t use them. My only issue is they make the game easier the same way playing cooperative multiplayer does in boss fights and that’s still fine with me. The issues lies in the fact that I want to play coop on console and I get punished with invaders because it would be “too easy” otherwise but there’s no repercussions for using summons even though it’s essentially the same mechanic as having a friend help with the boss. If I can’t have a friend without us being murdered by a holes who have nothing better to do then why do people like Doc get to breeze through the game with the help of summons?

But still since Elden Ring has technically harder bosses and it was Doc's first playthrough it's understandable. Athough he should try the game with a simple no summon build cuz it's peak gameplay

I Had max upgraded summons 71+ vigor and blasphemous blade +10 elden ring was still difficult, malenia still cooked me up and folded me Like laundry, and radagon chunked through my mimics HP.

At the beginning he didn't like the game at all. He said it wasn't his taste and was playing fps shooting games. Now I am surprised to see him beating the game.

Having fun in a FromSoft game is illegal to 90% of the player base, I used to say all this dumb stuff about using crutches and all that but now I’ve changed my mind. Play the game and just have fun. The spirit summons are cool, playing with friends is fun. Using sorcery or incants is fun along with Strength and Dexterity. Nobody should be the fun police but there are plenty of smelly gamers out there

Idk bro I use mimic for Elden ring and breezed through most of sekiro and bloodborne. Parrying being rewarded in those games as a valuable defense strategy is the key difference. There’s no solid defense strategy besides I frames in Elden ring so people are going to use mimic to have fun lol

I’m fine with ashes and such, for me it’s bloodborne we’re I kinda drew the line. Bloodborne, I promise you guys, is a different much more special game without summoning

This is real as fuck, this game is designed to be played the way you want.

Sure summons are a part of the game but so is leveling past 700.... Just because you can doesn't mean you should lol. Imagine beating these bosses without an OP CO OP partner that also heals you.

People like you will complain in literally every build people use. You will complain if he used magic. Or spammed power L2s or if he spammed incantations or if he used bleed or he spams jump attacks. Such a clown it’s a mechanic in the game just like the mechanic you used to beat the bosses

Yup,whats the point? The results are the same. Either using summons and magic with fewer tries or die many times to beat a boss. Many people just want to enjoy the game and some doesn't or have a limited time playing. Whats the point of these gate keeping? To show that you're cool or whatnot? Its like saying "I went to school naked instead of wearing clothes because Im dogmatic"

Played most of the Souls series besides Bloodborne. And The Doc can play however the hell he wants! His character is he's going to brag and hype the chat and himself up, so what? What's the problem? Everyone can have their own limited sense of accomplishment in beating the game their own way, but he beat it his way and no one can take that away from him. Everything else is just people complaining to make noise.

The "too easy" and "too hard" thing is a gradient in From games. No, I'm not gonna fight Malenia with no weapon, an un-upgraded flask and no armor. But I'm also not gonna brag about being Malenia if I'm using maxed-out boss weapons, a mimic tear, jump attack spamming either.

Stupid people that criticize someone for using mechanics that are in the game. I finished ER without it to challenge myself (I played all FS games, all major soulslikes) but I will not rant about my friend (or some random person on the internet), that never played FS games before, just because He used it. I was very happy that I could show Him that game, make Him explore something differnt - game that is very different and gives enormous satisfaction when You overcome it's chalenges. He is hooked now, played Lies of P, trier Lords of the Fallen. It's a win win. He had fun, lots of it. That's what matters. Same with the people that hate on it because it is too hard. It's not a handholding, self playing cassual mush. Never was and let's hope, never will be. It's not like the game is getting easier when You play it. It is You getting better at it. And that's is the most unique thing about theese games. There is always something that can kill You instantly if You mess up. And I love thoose games for it.

I think this is what turned a lot of people off of Souls games. Players will hate on so many mechanics, praise the devs, and run around naked with a sword. Games usually don't work like that. You're supposed to be happy to get new gear/abilities to help you win. There's another layer to the way some people look at these games.

There are more broken builds. I mean, the one he uses is just the best player friendly build. Basically for trash players. But there are builds more broken. The most broken being the double beast curved sword bleed build. I beat NG+7 Melania in 20 seconds lmao. Without the mimic

You know what else is part of a mechanic? Aim assist. But hey! Why spend hours when i can let the computer play for me as intended?

I stayed away from souls community because it's infected by clowns that do not even appreciate the efforts the devs put in the damn game. The game is design to be played your way & no body else. I use everything that's in the game. My only rule is to never use add-ons that bring third party features into the game. I had a bow, staff, swords & spears at all at once. I change my gears & weapons based on who I am facing. Even real warriors from the dark ages times did the same in real life.
