May I disagree. Doc Martin never does anything selfish. He's simply insensitive to what most people think is important. He just thinks doing his job as well as possible is all that's needed in a society. I love the show too, and the writer(s) are geniuses.

I agree. I don't see him as selfish at all--quite the opposite. When it comes to the welfare of his patients, he goes to great lengths to provide them with the best care possible. He is incredibly dedicated and conscientious. He is also not selfish where Louisa is concerned. He doesn't know how to do it properly, but he really does want to please her and often does things he doesn't want to do because he thinks it will make her happy.

@Charlie Austin You bring up an interesting point about this show. In most shows like this, Doc Martin would be his grumpiest and least social at the beginning, but he would soften as the series continued and he spent more time in Port Wenn. But in this show, the opposite seems to have happened. He has become less social and more crusty and grouchy as the series has continued.

Great actors. Love this scene.

other errors, louisa has her baby in the blue dress, is in the hospital with the same dress, and is discharged with the same dress. the dress surprisingly is completely clean the apt. that was sold for auntie joan is still there and they plan to move to said apt. nevertheless, the show is great. the love story is great, and hope season 10 will conclude it in the best way, since season 9 is kind of leaving us in a limbo. with what happens nxt.

After he spends the night with Louisa he goes back to the surgery but he does not take his bag and defibrillator with him. Continuity error! Also he does not wash his hands after picking up the glass with all the blood on it.

@freebeerfordworkers SPOILER ALERT : I wonder if they will get another actor as James Henry for season 10? If Louisa is about 2 months pregnant at the end of season 9 and two years have now passed then little Elliot will be about 5 by now so will have grown up more than he would have in the show. That is, if season 10 carries on where 9 ended...

@@SadieMy there were sooo many babies who were John Henry. They didn't even care if they liked alike. They really didn't! I suppose they assumed we're not really looking at the baby.

Why are almost all the characters in this show "only" children? Al and Louisa and Martin and Morwena . . . and many of the patients as well.

The fact Louisa knows what Doc Martin's personality is like, for her to constantly become upset with him for behaving just as expected, is completely unreasonable. It makes me appreciate the writers however, because it's a typical woman's reaction. If you can't accept your friends shortcomings, they shouldn't be your friends, but of someone you intend to marry? For her to say, "yes" is nothing short of insane... so yeah, typical woman.

Lots of continuity errors in this show. In season 1 Martin tells Bert that his father wanted him to follow him into the navy. But we know now that his father was a doctor.

I know someone who was a doctor in the Royal Airforce (and still had to train and do all the flying stuff). So doctor in the Navy?

And then when his dad wanted Aunty Joan to pay him out for his share of the farm, Martin said he would sell his London flat to pay him out. But later Martin and Louisa major plans to move to his flat. Also, after he spent the night with Louisa he goes home without his medical bag and defibrillator. Lots of other little inconsistencies as well
