I recently set up my 2 channel listening room. The room is the biggest problem with getting good sound... smaller rooms being a PITA trying to always keep the perfect triangle in different speaker placements, and then reflections from un-dressed walls/ceiling coming into play. I tried my PSB Stratos Mini monitors (not particularly small as the name Mini might suggest) on the floor, floor tilted so the tweet was pointed at my ears, on the corners of the large credenza I'm using for the gear, and finally on stands. Stands sounded best by a long shot. The stands also got better as I pulled them away from the front wall, into the room about 2 feet. Then I introduced a sub woofer, and found that the sweet spot settings were with the sub volume a bit lower and the filter set to 60 Hz... otherwise the bass was way too thick. Finally, I filled the stands with sand and went back through all the test songs. The sound got better, but not glaringly so, but in a way that immediately confirmed that the sand was a good choice The bass got a little faster and the mids and highs lost some air. I lack the vocabulary to explain it properly, but the sound got more solid, less bright. For critical listening, I contend it is an easy way to improve your speakers performance. Great video sir!

Made my own! …..very pleased! I designed mine in such a way that I could fill the base with sand as well as the center column. The sand helps with resonance and obviously the weight is beneficial for stability as well as sound. You want your stands to be quite a bit heavier than the speakers themselves. My stands loaded with sand before I put the speakers on them weigh about 50 pounds apiece.

Well this is not about stand’s it’s about the subwoofer I added a subwoofer to my setup and I put it in the bottom layer of styrofoam from the box because it gets damp in my basement from time to time but I noticed that the sound of the sub was fuller and it seemed to play nice with the main speakers almost sounds like it’s able to reproduce deeper frequencies just by putting the subwoofer in the styrofoam packaging it came with on the bottom, it’s only an 8” but it booms like a movie theater My OCD lead me to a good idea because I never heard of anyone decoupling a subwoofer from the floor

you should measure your speakers outside in open field to see what they do, maybe upside down on a flat surface to miniate floor reflex from your tweeter

And that would tell you what they sound like outside, which is not where you use them!

Do you have acoustics in your room as far as bass traps or ect…..

In terms of the actual vibration that goes to the floor from the low end, did the stands help with that. Also have you tried filling the sand compartments in each stand to help with this.

Big mistake with the speakers placement on the stands, they're behind the monitor. That is a bad move. They should be in front of the monitor. The monitor is obstructing the sound. Even though the speakers appear to be clear of the sides of the monitor, sound doesn't just project forwards. The sound is going to immediately bounce back off the back of the monitors. Putting your speakers on stands is otherwise a good move. I'm about to do the same. JDC

@@JustinTutor No worries. I'm glad you took the comment positively. But it does make sense. Like you I had my speakers for years on the desk, but I placed them on ISO Acoustics Stands. Hope you get it setup to your advantage and benefit. If it's not right it follows on down the chain. I actually have 4x 27" monitors 2x2 on my desk. I will be mounting them on the wall when I get my new desk which means a complete 180. JDC

if you really wanna get to the bottom of this, you gotta try different sets of monitors from same or different manufacturer, it's not always the room, maybe it's your set of speakers sound like shitt!

Why not do a proper comparison by actually isolating the monitors from the desk surface with ISOPADS or something of the sort? Having the monitors directly on the wihout any isolation isn't a fait A/B i find... If someone is on a budget, I'd say get some ISOPAD/ISOPUCKS or just anything made to decouple the monitor from the desk... its gonna be a very good upgrade.

​@@JustinTutorI had my monitors on the desk on isoacoustics stands, then moved the monitors to floor stands, still with the isoacoustics under them. Having the isolation stands in the first place was a big improvement over sitting on the desk, but there was an improvement in moving to floor stands as well. It allowed for a bigger triangle and reflected off less of the desk surface.

put the speakers on the stands and then the stands on your desk. really knocks out some of that mid-low low end from the high end. cleans It up perfectly
