    Hey brian! Thank you for those videos they helped me get accepted for an IB summer internship at a big Canadian bank in Montreal. I would like to know whether it is possible to make a video answering some of these general questions: - How do you configure your laptop once you receive it? (Do you set up the Excel toolbar for your shortcuts?, do you share your calendar with other members of your team?, etc.) - Do you have specific things to share regarding Excel and PowerPoint? What are the things you wish you knew before you start in IB? - What are some common mistakes you see interns/analysts doing? - What do you do to make sure you receive a full time offer once the internship is over? - When the analyst/associate send you something to do, do you reply immediately to let them know that you have received it or you don’t answer them until you do it so you can just send them one email instead of two? Thank you in advance

    I'm very new to business/ finance. In fact, today is my first day researching investment banking and your channel is a gold mine. I also find your takes on topics valuable. That being said, me as a newbie what is a better route to take to get into investment banking? MBA vs 4 year bachelor? I currently don't have a bachelor's degree and is an MBA even possible without getting a bachelor's first? Which one is cheaper? Is getting recruited in my sophomore year even an option for a person way older to be in college? Also, do most people get financial aid because $200k seems a bit absurd. Lastly, is there any other jobs in the finance world that's easier to get into or doesn't require going to a target school? Thanks for the useful videos and answers.

    Check out peak frameworks KZread channel, they covered this in a video. Going from memory they said that IBs look for 3.5gpa from target schools, but above 3.2 GPA is still doable. I'm from the UK so I'm not sure about NYU but I think it might be a target school, Peak Frameworks also has a video on target schools. Connections are also important as they are VERY helpful to get an interview in the first place. So contact alumni from NYU who are in IB and send them an email with a resume attached. Do more research on cold emailing for IB first though.

    I am currently a Freshman at a non-target state school in NY. I am in the "Honors College" of my university, and I will later have the chance to apply to a "BS+MS" program in which I would receive an MS after my 5th year of schooling. Would this still be a decent way for me to get into IB without attending a prestigious Ivy League or going after an MBA? Furthermore, in your experience, do MS' make much of a difference in terms of scaling faster/more easily from an analyst -> associate?

  • @baz1184

    @baz1184

    I'm obviously not an expert but a masters outside of an MBA won't get you to associate faster. It is a set program of 2 years as an analyst and then 2 years as an associate. The masters may help you get into IB in the first place though but if you are successful with just a bachelors then there is no need to stay on for the masters imo.

Assuming the MBA is no-cost (which it probably isn't), are the certifications worth the 2 years without pay (during schooling)? For what it's worth I'm coming from the perspective of a newbie. I just finished my degree at a non-target school in the UK and I start as an analyst at IB next week Monday. From my research I currently want to move into private equity after IB and then I may well need an MBA to get past the associate level. So I will do one then if I need to.

    IMHO, an MBA is mostly a repetition of the undergraduate business courses with may be more papers or few case studies. So do not know why so much importance is given to this degree. If it were to me, an MBA would be all courses which are case studies and that too several of them like 1 per week on the course topic. So end of the MBA program a graduate has done nearly 100-200 case studies on various business topics of the real world. One question to public, how is Ivy League MBA different than state universities..........is it that they have better professors or more load/assignments per course or more technology in class room or anything else. Selecting MBA from Ivy league sure does get the best students (high gpa types) who have abilities to read up alot, comprehend and analyse with mere one reading i.e. much more efficient information processing.
