The scalloped edge on a T-shirt is so pretty. I make lots of kids' T-shirts for charity and this 'new to me' idea will make the girls' T-shirts more girly. You not only have good hacks and ideas, but you are a very good teacher. I learn a lot from you and enjoy your videos.

I love the Scalloped hem idea. But the tight rolled hem is the prize winner. Yes, I have heard and read it many times " use a tight zig zag stitch." But I never really understood exactly how to do that. Now I do! Thanks Alisa. You have done it again. I am still loving that color blocked shirt. 😍

Wow, that blind hem stitch is fantastic! That is the best way of doing a hem that I've seen that doesn't include a twin needle. Thank you!

First thank you for detailed instructions for the beautiful scalloped edge and idea for using on underwear. 2nd, as another commentor noted: when you get excited you speed up speaking. I have a hearing disability and even watching at 75% speed when you are giving specific #s for stitches and settings you speed up to 150% it seems. Please give a slight pause at these times. These instructions are valuable and I don't want to waste time trying to back up the video every time. Again I appreciate your sharing your amazing knowledge and talent with us.

I also use that shirring technique as you can control how much it gathers in. Another similar use, is when you have to gather really thick fabric and the normal 2 gathering rows may not be strong enough to gather it. Then I use a strong cord/upholstery cotton thread and zigzag over it. Gathers easy peasy

Great video. I use some of your tips already, but I am always looking for more. RE: Shirring. The same process works for a gathering stitch - just use a slightly thicker thread, such as Top Stitch in place of the elastic, zigzag over it and pull the result to gather - stronger and more accurate and less likely to break than the usual 2 rows of basting stitch. Looking forward to more of your videos in 2024. Sally from Australia

Happy New Year! This is just the video I want for the new year:) Beginning my journey into knits for 2024. I'll start by hemming knit pjs that are too long - after practicing, of course! I also picked up some beautiful thin fabric for a scarf, so I'll be trying the tiny hem. Thank you!

  • @ThoughtfulCreativity

With the tiny hem on knits (if you want to try it out) - use wash away stabilizer, the example that I made is just woven cotton (and that's where I mostly use this technique), for knits this would come out wavy without stabilizer. Edited to say: I also have a video about sewing knits on a sewing machine and it has useful info for needles, stitch choices, what stitches are good for what and more. You might find it very useful for starting our with sewing with knits :)

@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you - I will watch the knit video for sure. The tiny hem is for some rayon fabric I picked up for a scarf. Hoping it works well on rayon:) Might try it with a wash away stabilizer and without since I have some handy and the rayon is so "slinky."
