I stop calling myself tender headed and started calling my mom heavy handed. I didn't know it was possible to get my hair done without pain until anyone besides my mom did it. My mom seems to believe that she knows everything about hair because she's black despite the fact that she tried to call me wrong when I said she should comb from the tips to roots. My hair line suffered

Mine is the opposite..my mom used to do my hair and I hated I would cry and cry...until...I went to the salon. SHE WAS EVEN WORSE! She had no mercy...she would almost pull your head off of your neck. So I said momma I’m sorry that lady was even worse than you! When I say I was bad, the pain was unbearable. So my momma doing my hair don’t seem to bad rn

I have been "tender headed " all my life. This includes prior to being exposed to chemicals in the 7th grade. The only time I can have my hair parted or braided without feeling like someone is dragging me by my hair is if I do it myself. I guess I am just sensitive.

I am naturally tender headed. My scalp is sensitive because when I was younger I always thought I had dandruff but I always knew something wasn’t right.....I had fungus and (scaling of the scalp) dermatitis. After I stopped using chemicals and went natural it feels better but I do my own hair because even though I don’t have the scalp issues no more my scalp is always tender, maybe because I used chemicals for years. Sometimes I wash my hair and deep condition it and the next day my scalp is so tender. I’m glad I seen this comment because I’m not alone being tender headed.

Stop working on Dry hair!!! I feel so bad I see mothers raking a comb or brush through their child's dry hair and they're screaming in agony. Of course that's going to hurt and also pull out hair!! Buy an empty spray bottle, available at any beauty supply. Put some purified water in it (tap water is usually "hard" and has chemicals) and if you want you can add a little hair conditioner and shake it up. Or you can just use water. (Black women, stop being afraid of water. Hair needs water and water should be the first ingredient in your hair products!! )If you properly moisturize and seal your hair, this process should not "dry out" the hair. Spray the hair first just a light mist to soften up the hair and then apply your hair products and Comb/brush the hair. For goodness sakes. And no you don't spray the hair until it's completely saturated and needs to be towel dried because obviously brushing wet hair isn't healthy either.

i attribute my long big thick hair to being tender headed. Whenever my mum tried to set up an appointment for me to get my hair done, I threw the WORST tantrums. So much so I've been banned from 3 salons around the area. TRUE STORY... omg, to you all laughing out there, this was pretty traumatic even for me!! Yes, I was the teen that lost her damn mind during my hair sessions. I just dealt with it by having my mum curse me as she took her time detangling my hair during wash days. And with that my hair grew unbelievably long and thick.... I wasn't creative with it, didn't do anything other than loose buns....unlike many black girls, I was not fortunate enough to have braids and corn rows styles, I guess that's one thing I truly missed out on.... but now that I'm grown, and have an idea on how to care for my hair, I can relive those days....,,, minus the beads and kiddie accessories.

This was so me also , my hair was very long , thick and even though I was tendered headed my mother still kept putting my hair in too many hairstyles . She was so heavy handed and always parted my hair when it was dry . How you're going to expect me to be still and not cry the whole time ? I didn't actually stop crying until I got in the eighth grade in middle school when I was younger . That's how bad it was . Ever since then I decided to do my own hair . Now after trasitioning back to natural from relaxed and damaged hair , I can see why everything happened the way it did . I'm not gonna front though , my mom was taking care of my hair making sure it was done nice and pretty even though I suffered . Smh 😭🤣

My cousin is TENDER to the HEADED. You try to even seperate her hair in sections she yells ouch and her eyes start to water. You dentangle her hair the right way meaning starting from tip to root. She will yell ouch and start to tear up. The only way for her to not be tender headed is for her hair to be somewhat wet but wetter then damp But also drier that dripping wet. Even her hair damp and you combing or separating she'll cry. I can't even do this girls hair without her crying at least once. Man I feel bad for her I don't know what's going on in her scalp

I think the term tender headed has been misused for the longest, like in the video I think it mainly has to do w/working on dry hair. But also being rough handling hair, my momma called me tender headed but when she was raking that comb through my dry hair then putting some grease on it before styling. My aunty sometimes did my hair and did the same thing, the only person who wasn't like that was my big cousin when she would do my hair. I can't say the perm cause is applicable to me since I was natural up until I was 10(my momma stopped doing my hair then) but it makes sense.

I don't let anyone touch my hair anymore, I had to take drugs Everytime I did my hair at a salon and on the tightest areas I used to get boils. From braids to locks and twists, I do them all myself or my sister helps. I just don't understand how people are so aggressive with their hair. I never had thin hair, it was just tension and breakage lol. I'm just so dissapointed that so many people still can't handle thick type 4 hair.

I get SUPER DUPER tender-headed when my hair growth spurts during the warm months. Just touching my hair/scalp hurts. Scalp massages help. I don't rub my scalp directly. Rather, I do a dozen 2-strand twists, then grasp each twist gently at the root and work it around in a gentle circle. This releases blood flow and sooooooths my tender scalp. Maybe this aids the growth spurts. What do you think?

My niece is extremely tender headed. Tge whole time you attempt to detangle her hair (with conditioner) she literally scream and cries. I've watched her an have conclude that its partly because of the tender headed and the of part is psychological every time she see a comb I think the anxiety starts because she associates the comb with pain. When I do her hair now I leave the pony tale holder on while detangling the ends that is where her hair tangles the most her hair is very dense but the strand are very very fine and they tangle very easily. She also get tangling at the roots as well.

  • @GreenBeauty

    @GreenBeauty

757chaneal Thats a good technique (pony tale holder). If you don't mind some frizz, you can put her hair in small to medium twist or braids. Wash her hair while its in the twist/braids and wrap and stretch her hair in a satin scarf to reduce the frizz. You can avoid combing her hair for like two months if you stay consistent with her twist/braids.

So migranes can lead to tender headedness? Makes sense since I'm so tender headed no matter how soft and braids are always super painful. I've been suffering migranes since I was little, just never knew what it was until middle school.

I have developed tenderness on my scalp because my hair dresser does not listen to me when I say I don't want tight braids. How do I get to her? I don't want to get Traction Alopecia

You might want to take your money and find another hair dresser who will listen to your concerns. Or you can learn to do it yourself so that you can control how tight they are.

Of course, that's okay. I personal sometimes go months without combing my hair. Finger detangling especially of you keep your hair stretched is perfectly fine for our hair.

Question: What if you are only tender-headed when others do your hair? is this just considered soreness or is this still a more serious issue? #Gotmeworried :-(

If your tender headed only when others do your hair then I'm sure it's not a sign of anything serious. Either get someone else to do your hair or just do it yourself. I'm the same way :-)

As a white female with a very tender head and a pink scalp (probably due to sensitivity), I greatly appreciate your educational standpoint and even referring others to a dermatologist if necessary. Thank you for your videos. Getting my hair cut has made me feel so isolated in my suffering, making getting haircuts expensive and traumatic. I'm very thankful that I'm not alone and that I have some explanations.
