I'm sure most already know this but,if you boil condensed milk for 3 hrs it caramelizes and makes the best Carmel for apple pieces. Yes leave it on the can for 3 hrs in boiling water. I remember one year I fell asleep and it boiled the water out of the pan. It actually made the can blow up,a bunch of the Carmel landed on our cat,he did not like the dog chasing him around trying to lick the Carmel off him. I'll never forget that.

1. Use a pressure cooker and it'll be faster and safer. 2. Technically it's not caramel since the temperature is too low to caramelize sugar; rather, it's brown because of the Maillard reaction (the same reason steaks are brown). That's why the flavor is different and milder than regular caramel. In Brazil we call this stuff "doce de leite" (roughly translates to milk candy, milk fudge, something like that). In the anglosphere it's best known by its Spanish name "dulce de leche".

A good chocolate macaroon recipe with no oven is this: a whole pile of butter melted in a pot, add LOTS of sugar and cocoa, and mix on low until smooth and slightly thin. Allow it to heat, but not boil, and add about equal parts sweetened, shredded coconut and quick oats. Add a bit at a time while stirring, coating ALL the oats and coconut in the chocolate. Do this over a warm burner or it will be difficult to stir. Then either eat it hot out of the pot (like I do when I make them 😁) or use a spoon to scoop cookie sized lumps on a baking sheet with wax paper. Cool in the fridge for an hour or so.

At home as a child we would place a closed can of condensed milk (submerged) in a pot of water and let it boil for 2.5 hours at least. Let it cool and then place it in the fridge. Before serving open the top and bottom of the can and push its content through. It will look caramel in color. Place it on a serving plate and cut slices as needed say 2cm and enjoy it as a dessert with whipped fresh cream on top 🥰 memories !
