I just imagined seeing Rhett have his own personal Super Bowl ad for Corona, with him sitting in a beach chair that’s situated outside of his mini bus on the beach which has some other Stoner friends of his inside said bus, toking up & the smoke💨 coming out of the open door...and there’s a Surfboard on top of the mini bus, which has written in red graffiti “MINE” on it 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

When I was a kid my psychologist explained to me in great depth that some people don't have an inner monologue, that always seemed crazy to me. He would tell me about how some people cant imagine things, like, they cant visualize things in their mind, also crazy to me. For me, its like the inner voice is me and I just sort of, like, exist and conversate with myself within my own head. Like there's me on the outside then there's me in my head, but they don't feel like the same being, not in like a DID way but in a way like...like you exist physically but simultaneously you exist metaphysically in your mind, at the same time, but as different people... I don't know If im really articulating my thoughts well but I love thinking about this kind of stuff. ✌ This episode was some good food for thought, man

I definitely have a continuous "inner chatter" most of the time. I always hear this voice when I read. However, there are times when I'm thinking without the (my) voice. I'll think in visualizations, sensations, memories, or emotions. This is how I remember thinking as a child. I never thought in words as a kid. Now as an adult, I think both ways about 50/50.

You're not wrong, theres the you that does things by instinct and there's a critical, moralizing agent. It's the ego psychology and whether or not the details are correct i believe the basis is right. Also most people play a role depending on the situation, that means there's also a raw, private, personal you that usually only lives inside your head. There are psychological conditions where people almost don't have this private version and their whole life is an act. Also conditions where there's no moralizing agent which in turn allows the private you to do whatever it desires, often linked to psychotic behaviour.

The voice in my head is constant and automatic. It says every word I read or any word I hear and all my thoughts. The voice never stops, its always saying something, having conversations, arguments, etc.

My inner voice is something like yours, but much less persistent. I also have what I call almost-aphantasia, because I can picture things, but only with great effort, composing the image one part of an element at a time (often with an odd result). It will never happen automatically. I don't get precise descriptions of things when I think about them, like you do. I don't visualize or mentally describe my living room, for example, I just know what it's like. I'm not really sure what's going on in my subconscious, but I just know. It's been interesting to hear your experience with this and think about how it compares and contrasts with my own.

I know what an apple looks like and I know what a beach looks like but I somehow can't create an image. I can draw things with varying degrees of success which helps a lot. I also hate reading because while a lot of people can imagine people and places and objects written about, I would have no idea and have no way to comprehend what its like.

That's so interesting. I read about aphantasia earlier this year and couldn't wrap my head around it, especially the concept of not having visual memories. Then I met a person who had it and I could ask her some questions about it. What's it like for you guys? Are you just unable to picture images or sound as well? (Some people are even able to imagine smells) and do you have visual dreams? When and how did you find out about it? Answer if you like. I would also like to know if Rhett or Link have aphantiasa. Or synesthesia. Sorry for the rambling, it's just so fascinating how different basic human experiences can be for different people.

  • @dpreeper

@@marmotarchivist For me it only affects my ability to bring up an image. But I do still dream visually, as do most people with aphantasia. And I can imagine touch and sound easily. I found out just a few years ago, in my 30's. After hearing yet again a phrase something like, "Picture the scene", I had to ask my husband if he could actually see anything. He could! This led to a long and very interesting conversation and some Google research on this difference. (Since I didn't know the term aphantasia, I had to Google "no mind's eye".) I always imagined that people must think in different ways, but I had no idea how different I was than the "norm". And I still don't feel it holds me back in any way, but I continue to find the concept of thinking more normally/visually very fascinating.

Rhett is misinterpreting the "voice" as something equivalent to a third party reading to him and his brain interpreting the information before forming a response which isnt what I believe is the case and the study somewhat shows that. The "voice" is the brain taking in the information and formulating the respone its not another step added in like passing a package down a line of hands, as the "voice" reads "aloud" the brain is already interpreting the information given to it by the body

The "voice" inside of my head when I'm reading is necessary for me. Yes, it slows me down, however I can't comprehend what I read without it having this "voice". The "voice" also has no sound in my head. What I mean by that is it doesn't take a form or specific accent. It only comes across as a voice for comprehension. This voice doesn't sound like anyone, it just sounds like words being processed together to for information or ideas.

'Conscious awareness' is becoming aware of the voice inside your head..and what it says. For most, it is very critical. Meditation can be used to observe said voice, examine and shift one's consciousness. If you find it difficult to sit still with your thoughts, you are missing out on a whole other powerful aspect of yourself.

If I remember correctly, teleportation is possible, but just really... Really hard to accomplish. It has been done at a smaller scale (even things like atoms DO have mass of their own). The way that current teleportation would work, is that you have point A and a point B. You scan item A, send the information to point B, and build the exact copy of item A, at a point B. This is possible in theory, on a bigger scale. Its not "exact" teleportation, like we see in the movies, but in theory we could scan a human being, here on Earth, and "build him" in Mars, for example. The main concerns are that is it ethically right. Does the soul exist? If so, can it be "copied". And what about the original who was scanned. Now there are two of you. Do both of you have the same right as humans? Is It okay just to "kill off" the original one. This get really dark when we talk about ethics and morality.

The internal voice when you read is called subvocalization. It tends to limit the speed at which we read so many speed reading techniques try to minimize subvocalization. This is why we tend to read at about the same speed that we can talk. I would think it has something to do with the ability to talk about what we have read, or maybe we are talking to that other personality in our head.

I agree that 3am is middle of the night, and 4am is morning. I was trying to figure out why I thought that, and I think it may be partly because here, in the pre-dawn in the summer, about an hour before the sun rises (so between 4 and 5am) all the birds wake up and sing for about 20 minutes. It sounds like there are hundreds of them, all singing at the same time, and it's much louder than during the day. Then it's like they all go back to sleep, and wake up again when the sun rises.

For example my inner monologue does not slow down my reading. Growing up with Heathenry (Ásatrú) i convey my perception of it with the story of when Þjálfi lost while racing against Hugi, which unbeknownst to him was the personification of thought.

I have an internal voice I hear 24/7 that I hear when thinking, reading, writing, dreaming, etc. Even when reading a street sign, a video title, or numbers. I can't turn it off and on, it's always on and it's just automatic. It doesn't take up extra time. I can read super fast but I'm hearing my voice/character voices/friends voices (depending on what I'm reading or thinking or writing) at the same time. What fascinates me is how my internal voice doesn't sound exactly like my physical voice, yet I consider it to be the real authentic Me. Maybe that's why I don't like the sound of my physical voice, because it doesn't sound like the real me. #EarBiscuits

Yup I have an inner voice, but not like I’m “hearing voices.” My thoughts just have an almost audible quality to them. In fact, when I travel to different countries, I always inherit the accent. You can learn about “inner voices” by learning to speed read. I’m a slow reader because reading is almost equivalent to listening to an audiobook in my head. It’s a challenge for me, but “normal” faster readers simply look at text and process it.

I’m a very fast reader when I read books. And I always hear a voice . Whether it’s mine or the character. If I sit here and think. I hear a voice personally cause I’m having a conversation with myself . Same with reading emails and texts. If it’s an article I hear my own voice reading it

The biggest question is that if we hear a voice in our head when we're thinking, or we can think that someone is talking in our minds... then do deaf people hear these voices aswell ...and if they do ...who's voice is that?

The most difficult part of teleporting is letting go of where you are. If you phase shift first, it's much easier to teleport (and also harder to detect)

I think what rhett is saying is that when he is reading something, he's just reading. It doesn't become some other voice that is not the standard inner monologue reading voice. Like he doesn't necessarily hear it as if it's being spoken to him, he's just reading it normally.

For the most part, I don't have an internal monologue or voice, but there are a few exceptions. The only time I hear something like that is when I'm reading or when I am angry. I can read relatively fast but probably not as fast as I would if I didn't have that voice. When I am upset, my inner voice allows me to say the things I want to say outwardly. Mostly what is going on in my head are visual thoughts/pictures, memories, or just music that I can't get out of there. Didn't realize that wasn't how everyone processed things until probably last year.

Teleportation: I think it'll be some kind of device we can wear, like a wrist watch or maybe a booth like a phone booth if we can all afford a wrist watch. I think it'll use GPS coordinates and that it will not allow you to enter certain areas. I think even the booth ideas will be better because then you could control more so that you don't materialize exactly where someone is standing. So it'll become a mode of transportation that needs infrastructure like anything else. The magic version like in Harry Potter is my favourite though, and you can cast spells to keep people from materializing in your house, for example or its just considered good manners haha.

It's amazing they don't hear a voice when they read. When I read, I understand and comprehend based on the voice in my head reading it. I simply cannot picture how one could read without this voice in your head and how it could be fun at all.

Its crazy that brains are different, some are just more active and you can’t do anything to stop it, sometimes mine is a radio, I can’t stop playing songs I already know, its either let it finish or change it, it drives me insane, sometimes I talk to myself in my head, sometimes random imagines just comes to mind, movies, things from the past, things that I said or others said, its pure overthinking, and who tells you ‘’just don’t overthink’’ simply don’t know how it is, they don’t know how real overthinking feels like My friend said he can’t make any music inside his head, and idk how is that possible, or that he can’t read with any voice he wants, voices of people he heard before, like I said, its crazy
