It depends on where you live. I live in a country where sunshine is very rare. The Venus fly traps are then only green. Under artificial light, the insides of the traps turn a bright red, as do the tines on the edge of the leaves. The leaves then have a very compact growth. In the south part of Germany is more sunshine so that artificial light is not necessary to receive colorful strong plants

I wonder if there might have been some other stressors outside that your Venus flytraps were dealing with. I know, in my case, grasshopper apocalypse is undoing all of the benefit for my sarracenias from taking them outside. It's just not right to see so much insect damage on my pitcher plants.

Was wondering the same thing. The conclusion they grow better inside is only valid if all else is equal. But if I try it several more years with the same result I think I could conclude they grow better inside in this local environment. It may also depend on the type of plant. Red dragons seem to do okay outside for a while when the weather is moderate but not when the weather gets hotter and dryer. I have some B52 plants outside that do well year around outside.

I just added a video explaining my setup in more detail. I use a 2000w Vander life full spectrum grow light. It has full spectrum with IR light and has a good PAR rating with a good light footprint.
