I wonder if you can install both on top of each other to get the tighter mesh, as well as the larger metal shield

Potentially but you’d have to drill into the metal one to mount the mesh piece. Also it might rattle

Would try do install both so you have even more protection

How does this affect the cooling of the car? Have you noticed any overheating as there is less air flow to the cooler now.

So far so good! It definitely still leave a lot of opening for airflow

Should I do this as soon as I pick up new m3 or wait till break in service then put this on ?

Holes too big on Mishimoto. Just spent $2.400.00 on this issue.

Yeah it’s crazy that it’s exposure especially after so many people had issues with this on the F80 chassis

small rocks arent the problem, its big rocks/debris that can actually bash a hole in the cooler. I don't think the zunsport is stopping that

Great point! A small rock is the least of our concerns. Makes me feel better about my choice!
