    What do you do if you get disconnected and then yank the knob up and hit it on the sweet spot and cant stop doing it? The elbow doesn't get in front of my knob. My arms get disconnected, my hands get low, then i yank up. They don't ever get below the ball. It's like im trying to put my hands where i see the ball on the tee, but im not trying too.

    We use a Softball on their shoulder, and they hold it with the bat. If the softball comes off early, they have dropped or got disconnected. If they keep the bat over the shoulder (not Drop) then the ball goes forward.

    The ball drill, combined with Teacherman method I’ve found to be great. More snapping at top, but I also think keeping close to neck helps with the bat path. Is there a correct swing? I don’t know, but I do know you and Teacherman are the pieces I take.

    The movement at 3:34 is great. Why anyone would coach this movement out doesn’t make sense. It’s Griffey and Ruth like. Matt just posted a video of his son getting to this same position which received positive feedback and comparisons to Griffey. This ball drill just teaches a player to push hands toward ball more which is more disconnected. Look at how long it takes for barrel to enter zone while his hands are moving forward.

    Not true. This isn’t the swing of the 80s and 90s in which A to C was taught This is a launch angle to get ball in air and taught now as opposed to the A to C swing.

  • @kaneman23

    @kaneman23

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jefffinney4233 I never mentioned 80’s to 90’s hitting. But since you did, it’s more of the same if you look at the hand path. Only thing I see different is more backwards tilt which is caused from extension into the hit. Lots of energy also going backwards instead of into the hit.

    @@kaneman23 this swing isn’t optimal and is not something that should be replicated because it is an inefficient path and causes your swing to be longer with no benefit. Griffey had a pretty follow through but his swing wasn’t the most efficient path to take, and no one should try to replicate Ruth because that was a century ago and that swing would not work today as well as the one that he teaches because it simply takes too long to get on plane with the pitch

  • @kaneman23

    @kaneman23

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@anthonyhernandez5406 which swing isn’t optimal? The one demonstrated with ball? If so, I agree! Griffey had much more than a pretty follow through. Him and Ruth have the most beautiful and recognizable swings in history of baseball. Ruth would absolutely be able to hit and be a great today. Look at how early his barrel gets into zone and how long it stayed there. With the method they’re teaching it’s more of a hands to the ball path requiring sudden acceleration from a static position. It’s just not what the greats did. Their hands didn’t travel that far into zone before the barrel presents. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4mLsJaxdcrYidY.html

  • @kaneman23

    @kaneman23

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@anthonyhernandez5406 also I’m not sure by what you meant by taking too long to get on plane with pitch but keeping a barrel on your neck as long as Matt is demonstrating will create a steep path to ball. To make up for it his hands have to travel much more towards the ball which also puts him in a more disconnected position at contact. Something called a connection ball drill is actually promoting the opposite movement. Both Ruth and Griffey and other greats have a very straightened and compressed front arm at contact. Those who don’t understand the swing often call it an armbar and claim they have bat drag. As far as which swing is faster to zone and ball I also disagree. kzread.info/dash/bejne/emGlsLKPZLq5o6g.html

    How I learnt was (took 3 days btw) I just practiced the step, take a step load your back leg with your weight plant your front foot at around a 45° angle with 90° being facing the mound. Then the next thing I did was get in that position after practicing and practice driving my back knee down and in twisting at my hips causing my front foot to twist, then I practiced all together It's important to practice keeping your body above a straight line so hat I reccomend is place his bat perpendicular to the mound from the batter's box if that makes sense, and have it about 1 bat width off of his back foot. And have him make sure to keep his body weight above his bat, then when do the second step of driving that knee make sure you lay back on the knee same way you would if you were going to throw an overhand pop fly to someone but dont lean your upper body back. Yes it will be uncomfortable but in a real swing you're only in that position for 1-2 seconds so it's fine, be able to hold that position for around 5 seconds and you should be good Once you have both steps done separately put them together also dont be afraid to make it dramatically slow, at this point you wont even have a bat in your hands so the swing isnt even important just get the stance correct first. Good luck to your son hope this helped

    One thing that works for me is to take some batting cage swings where I don't move my feet, i.e. I don't step forward with my front foot, instead I just hit as if my feet were bolted into the ground (EDIT: well, not exactly bolted, since you do end up moving your feet rotationally, just not forward). It really teaches you to not generate power by lunging your body forward with your leg kick/stride, but instead by staying back and using your back hip and sinking into the ground and rotating into that classic final position you see from great hitters where the front leg is straight and the back leg at an angle.. Look at some slow motion Mike Trout swings -it is clear how his swing sequence activates AFTER his front foot has landed. In other words, he doesn't lunge forward into the ball with his leg kick, it's almost as if his leg kick/stride is not necessary and he could bat without it, but he just uses it as part of his timing.
