Don't need to 'forget' Parklife, just watch the official video and view it in the context that Parklife was meant to be considered when Blur created it. If you're going to try more Blur then defo check out For Tomorrow, The Universal and Charmless Man.

Lads don’t apologise. You did an honest reaction Park life was the wrong first song to react to and it’s satire and it was a shit live version tbf. Blur were Oasis’ main rival at the time but, as you say, the feud between them was media based. Blur did fantastic tracks. Beetlebum, Charmless man, The Universal, Country house and a few more. This is from a die hard Oasis fan btw

I suggest watching the official music videos instead of live versions. They were superb! A few examples: Song 2 (1997) The Universal (1995) Country House (1995) - there's an Oasis reference in the song.%) Charmless Man (1995) There's No Other Way (1991) - early stuff, different style

The 'Modfather' on drums. How cool is that! Park life was really popular more or less because it had Phil Daniels (An actor) as the lead vocalist. the vid for Park Life with Phil walking through a London park taking the piss is iconic. The rubbish live clip you saw shouldn't sway you from that. One of the most memorable performances from this period is actually Pulp, 'Common People' live from the Reading Festival. That was Brit Pop at it's magnificent best. Radiohead, 'Creep' also live at Reading, was in my opinion ,one of the most important songs of the 90's.

The rivalry was real. Liam threatening to beat Damon up, Damon pushing back Blur's song to coincide with the Oasis release, Liam aggressively confronting Graham in a nightclub bathroom, Noel and Liam shouting abuse across tables at the Brit Awards after Blur said their award should have been shared with Oasis etc. Noel bumped into Damon around 2010 or something and apologised to him and said he was just high out of his mind back then and now they are friends. Liam doesn't care about mending fences.

  • @mattpotter8725

As an Oasis fan from the very start I did appreciate Blur, and some of their songs, not all, but some. Oasis were more rock whereas Blur were more pop, and probably more diverse in the kind of songs. Oasis mainly had their heavy hitting electric guitar based sound, with some ballads. With Blur you got some out and out pop songs like Country House and Parklife (which I think probably doesn't travel well), along with less pop, but also I think your expectations were based on Song 2 and I don't really see that as a typical Blur song. Please do There's No Other Way, The Universal, Charmless Man, End of The Century, Girls & Boys, and even Country House (it's a bit poppy, but very catchy). Please do some other Britpop band line Pulp, Suede, and even more post Britpop band, so more Stereophonics and maybe bands like Feeder, Franz Ferdinand, the Manic Street Preachers. Also check out Embrace (more anthemic songs), Shed Seven, Snow Patrol. Those are the bands that I was also into, they have some amazing songs I think you'll really love and I'd bet you've never heard any of them!!! I'd say Blur are more like Radiohead then Oasis in they're more eclectic and can change styles more. I love Oasis, but I think they ran out of steam because they couldn't evolve their style like other bands did and after a while ago the songs started sounding samey, which wasn't the case in the first 2 or 3 albums. That and they lived the rock n roll lifestyle, toured a lot and it took a lot out of them and didn't give them enough time to come up with new amazing songs to match what had come before, it happens to many bands. Great video though guys!!! Love the fact that you give second chances. When I saw you were doing this one I wasn't quite sure it'd land. They do have better songs though imo.

The trouble with reviewing live versions of Blur songs, is that Damon Albarn isn’t a particularly strong or consistent singer live. They really are one of the few Britpop bands that you kind of have stick with the studio versions. I saw them live at Glastonbury in ‘92 (they played the NME stage mid afternoon on the Saturday, I think) and Damon trying to sing She’s So High was almost painful to hear. While I’m typing this, I’m actually watching your reaction to Parklife and it was a terrible choice to react to…especially live. I’m sure this has already been pointed out to you but the guy taking the lead on the vocals, Phil Daniels, is an actor…and a rather good one (if you’ve never seen it, you should watch the film Quadrophenia, where he plays the lead character Jimmy, the film was the brainchild of Pete Townsend and is based around the rock opera album of the same name). I saw Oasis live for the first time before they released their first single (about 5/6 months before) at The Plaza in Glasgow and they were the support act for another great Britpop band called St. Etienne and as good as they were, there was not a single person out in front of the stage, everyone was hanging around the sides and by the bar. The next time I saw them was less than a year later in Kilburn in London. Ocean Colour Scene were the support act, Paul Weller was stood just in front of us and the crowd was massive for this, the first of two nights. I suppose, the point I’m trying to make, is that none of the fans that I encountered back then liked one and not the other, they probably had a preference but would still be buying all the singles and albums from both bands (and most probably from Paul Weller, St. Etienne and Ocean Colour Scene too). If anything, I would probably say that Blur attracted a slightly older audience than Oasis, possibly because there would be less trouble expected at a Blur gig and that Blur had been around a few years longer) You should definitely check out the long and outstanding career of Paul Weller, encapsulating The Jam, The Style Council, The Paul Weller Movement and Paul Weller as a solo act, you will not be disappointed with either the live or studio versions. You might also like St. Etienne doing You’re In A Bad Way or their cover of Neil Young’s Only Love Can Break Your Heart. Sorry this was a bit long 😊

Glad you are giving Blur another chance but still not a great choice. Maybe try This is a Low, For Tomorrow, The Universal, End of A Century, Beetlebum, There’s No Other Way. The Glastonbury performances are usually great. Also give the studio version of Parklife a chance, you might even like it...

Parklife is not for everyone. Try Popscene, For Tomorrow, Beetlebum, or Trimm Trabb - all sound different. If you like how Graham sang, try Coffee & TV or You're So Great. He has side projects, which sound very different from Blur. He is also in Jaded Hearts Club w/ Matt Bellamy.

Update on supersonic doc: As of today when I went to go watch it, it's no longer on Netflix but it is on Showtime. Also if you want to see Noel looking cool as fuck while playing with other bands I suggest: The Corals - kzread.info/dash/bejne/iWimtqadiaWtdqQ.html And U2- ( I think this is particularly good because Noel vocals has alot of passion in it. Also it's funny when noel acknowledges that they failed doing "All you need is love" at 6:18. I mean I dont think it was that bad but it definitely wasn't great.) kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqClqNSJks64hsY.html

A couple of suggestions for future videos: imho the two best solo performances from Noel and Liam post-Oasis are Liam performing 'All Your Dreaming of' on Jonathan Ross in 2020 (I think) and Noel performing both 'Dying of the Light' and 'Dead in the Water' on RTE in 2017 Also you might want to check out the self titled album by 'The La's' from 1990 which Noel has gone on record to say Oasis finished what the La's started with that album. TBF the La's were simply standing on the shoulders of 60s bands like the Beatles and The Kinks etc and obviously Oasis were heavily influenced by those 60s bands too along with The Stone Roses, The Charlatans etc... Other suggestions for you would have to include the album 'Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in Space' by 'Spiritualized' released in 1997. The song 'Dakota' from the Stereophonics who I know you have recently just come across. Lastly, check out some of Ian Browns solo stuff...Highlights for me include 'Fear' and 'Keep What you Got' (which features Noel Gallagher on guitar).
