    I use S and S+ on my Lexus 460H and get better mileage the in "normal" or "economy" and it changes shift points and S+ stiffens the struts.

    This was fun! Never thought about it much. I just follow my owners manual and the tire pressure on the door with my 4Runner. I have HT tires and I have never had problems anywhere I have taken it.

    Hey, is this the same S mode on the 4runner where you can manually shift +or-? Will it be ok for use in the same manner for 4.0 as the v8 in the Lexus GX460?

    Regarding tires. Discount tire told me that I should run 38 to 40 psi on my BFG KO2 Load E range tires. They showed me a chart regarding E rated tires and carrying capacity and payload. E load tires require more psi for a given payload. But you are correct, normal tires that the GX comes with should run stock psi.

  • @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD

    @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD

    11 күн бұрын

    @vegasstang1 We have BFG KO2s on this GX460 and the tire psi is at 32 psi cold. "running" E rated tires at higher PSI is relative to capacity and payload. Do you have any payload in your GX460? No. Are you carrying anything extra? No. Set it at 32 psi. The E is for LOAD which you have none. If you add extra crap like overlanding junk then you have a load so then you increase the psi 😉

    I live in Bakersfield do I need a trans cooler for hotter climate areas? I am forgoing my GX550 deposit and am getting a GX460 instead. Trying to cram a bunch of learning and knowledge on the 460 as my plans have changed. The one I’m looking at used has 33s K03s and 2.5 shocks with res and upgraded control arms. Thanks

  • @surfordie82

    @surfordie82

    Short answer: yes, you could benefit from a trans cooler. You can view your trans temps while driving with an OBD adapter and the OBD Fusion app on your phone. I live in San Diego, CA and my temps (within the torque converter) can reach over 210 in normal stop and go driving with ambient temps in the mid/high 80s. The temps really climb with the torque converter unlocked. When its locked up in 4th, 5th or 6th, temps start dropping again quickly. My concern is slow speed off roading or towing with the converter unlocked (as it always is in gears 1-3). For this reason, I'm installing a Hayden 678 external cooler on my 2015 GX460 later this summer.

    @@surfordie82 thank you I’ll look into it. How does the cooler you mentioned work? Is it thermostat controlled or is it an always on affair?

  • @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD

    @LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD

    12 күн бұрын

    @keeblord7383 NO. You don't need a transmission cooler unless you are towing or otherwise loading up your transmission... Every GX already has a transmission line loop going around the radiator to cool it... an additional radiator is for those who tow/haul. AmThe ambient temp at 120f in the desert us considered to be cool air to an engine and transmission operating at 200f+ don't overthink it 😀

    @@keeblord7383 This would be an "always on" cooler. You leave the trans fluid routing through the stock "in-radiator" cooler, and then route the fluid through the external cooler before returning back to the transmission. The GX460 transmission has a built in thermostat, so you can't really overcool the fluid (the fluid will not be allowed to enter the radiator, nor any external cooler, until it is up to temp and the thermostat opens.) I'm hoping to drop my temps by about 20 degrees at all times; this will still be warm enough for proper operation.

    He's getting it confused with the Toyota 2urgse. The 2ursge is the motor from the Lexus F cars and certain components were designed by Yamaha. Things like the cylinder heads and exhaust systems. Most iconic is the Lexus LFA and older Toyota motors like the 3sgte, 3sge or the 2zz. Toyota has had a long history of working with Yamaha and certainly couldn't think or a better company to help them.
