Public health authorities currently advise against taking quality-of-life improving antihistamine medications during hot weather, as muscarinic antagonism is believed to blunt sweating and increase public health risk of heat illness/injury. However, supporting evidence is scarce. Thus, we tested whether three over-the-counter antihistamines alter thermoregulatory responses during heat stress.
