Salamanders show that compassion isn’t a weakness it’s a strength that fuels devotion and sacrifice like no other. They retain their families, their identities, their values and unlike most of the other chapters they’re never separated from who they were and what they loved. They’re a super dope faction that I love, Salamanders and Space Wolves are the best and most unique/human of the chapters.

To be fair, if you kill orks, they come back from spores and get your civilians. But if you cremate orks, they don’t. If you kill Tyranids, they might still infect some civilians with genestealer stuff. But if you cremate Tyranids, they’re gone. If you kill Chaos Spawn or Nurgle-infested creatures, they are still obscenely contagious to vulnerable civilians. But not if you kill them with fire. I think the Salamanders are worried about sanitizing the battlefield, not just winning.

Honestly, it does make some sense. Give the area-effect weapon to the people who will *genuinely* only use it as required. They aren't going to randomly torch a bunch of homes unless they're *certain* there are no living innocents, or if there is truly no other option.

I love that story line with Pedro of the Crimson fist and a mother of three children that lost her husband. They are marching as fast as they can and the mother collapses from exhaustion. She tells Pedro “I’m sorry, they are too heavy.” He then takes the children from her and goes “It is time” and you think he’s about to put her down and then he picks her up and says, “It is time someone carried you.” When i read that it gave me chills.

Space Wolves did fight inquisition + they always party hard with normal ppl so yeah, I should have added them lmao As for the RG, they only seem quiet and brooding and shit, they actually maintain close relationships with the civils in both Kiavahr (I think that's how you spell it idk) and Deliverance given their backstory. Plus, they have ignored many calls to just save imperial citizens in war waged worlds.

you know how parents joke about their sons coming home on the college breaks or being around the house during high school spring break and just demolishing the contents of the fridge? Since they stay in contact with their families, imagine a Salamanders scout coming back to his hometown for the first time since he left for training and just DESTROYING all the snacks and leftovers. He's a growing boy, after all :)

To be fair, Tyranids can infect your civilians with genestealer stuff, Chaos Spawn can survive from small pieces, Orks can respawn from spores, and that’s not even considering what Nurgle-creatures do when they splatter on your civilians. If I were protecting easily-infected civilians from these things, I would kill it with fire, too.

My head-canon is that the salamanders have the best MREs since they stay with their families, I can imagine they learned some recipes and make them themselves since they’re probably the most self sufficient legion. And with their care for civilians, I think they might even share some of those homemade rations with the people they rescue.

Fun fact one time a group of salamanders and the death korps of krieg war fighting against rebels, and the death Korps of Krieg bombarded a complex that had salamanders in it. They were fine, but they were extremely pissed off by this act of friendly fire, so pissed off, that the chapter master of that group of salamanders put the fear of the emperor into the death korps of krieg the same people who are literally afraid of nothing had fear put into them by the friendliest boys in the galaxy that just goes to show the rage of a patient man is worse than that of an impatient man

Some other chapters are willing to sacrifice civilians to further their goals. The Salamander's are only willing to sacrifice themselves to achieve their goal, save the civies.

Jedi are the center, it goes having good emotions and controlling them, completely suppressing them so you end up grey and weak in the force and then completely giving in to temptation, rage and sorrow. The jedi of the republic are the center, and it shows by how weak they are.

From what I've read, it definitely varies a bit. Originally they were pretty monstrous before they found sanguinius, and couldn't really control their thirst. Then post sanguinius they're generally pretty nice, nicer than most marines I'd say. And being a thrall to a blood angel is probably one of the nicer forms of slavery in the setting! 😂 At the same time, there's a bit in the night lords trilogy where they massacre civilians who are associated with night lords, because to them, they're no longer human, just mutants and heretics

Many astartes forgot the reason they are fight, and the reasons pushing the Emperor to keep fighting. To save humanity. It's to save humans that they are fighting.

That compassion and humanity is why I've chosen them as my first army. I also admire their love of making things- fire can help you create as much as it helps you destroy, and the Salamanders are unrivaled masters of the forge.

No wonder , I love salamanders legion , admire them in first. like the salamanders has the color of my black skin. Salamanders now , salamanders tomorrow and forever.

Their lore and their meme decks in Horus Heresy Legions is what made me love them a lot.

I can see Salamanders having problems with Grey Knights. Except no Salamander ever remembers encountering a Grey Knight.

This is a good example of the addage "The best soldiers fight not because they hate what is in front of them, but because they love what is behind them."

I think the fact that Salamanders are allowed to stay in contact their family still is really what sells the fact that they are the most wholesome chapter.

I've just started listening to the e-books on Audible, and I think it was the endgame of the Pandorax book that is a perfect example of this. No spoilers, but they put civilians and their defence objectives above all else.

White scars and space wolves actually care a lot about civilians to. In one of his books the khan asks I think Guillaume or sanguinius during the heresy if his troops actions would save many lives, and look at the soace wolves during the months of shame. The sallies are still my favorite tho and always will be.

The Salamanders answer the question "What would happen if you had an entire legion of Clark Kents as space Marines?"

Do not worry civillian i will save you. That is the scariest eight words utteted by a Salamander. It's even scarrier than a Blood Angel locked in a room with you saying, "the urge to kill...rising". Not even an emperors child sending you thirsty looks comes close.

Even though I barely know much about WH40K, Their compassion is exactly why the Salamanders are my favorite Space Marine Chapter. Their proficiency with anything fire and dragon/serpent related also helps.
