Been modifying Clutch Baskets for Suzuki SV1000 and DL1000 VStroms since 2010 when I discovered what was wrong in my own Sv1000. Retired engineer its my own design which corrects the original manufacturers failings and goes further to modify the basket damper so that the original vibration does not return. www.vibefreev.com or john@vibefreev.com for a worldwide service.

    I had my clutch basket modified by John about 2 years ago on my 2004 dl1000 k3. The difference was incredible pretty much eliminated the 'chudder' it had before. My bike had done 33000. I managed to get a secondhand basket on an auction site so my bike was not off the road while the mod was carried out. ( it only took about a week from sending to receiving it back). Highly recommended modification. It still have the spare basket if anybody is interested.

    Suzukis new clutch basket for DL 1050 engines from 2020 onwards are now good and do not require modification. There is no need to modify old baskets. Buy new and get the new springs and gears. They are backwards compatible so fit all 2002 to 2024 engines. The part number 21200-31Y20 is 300 USD from the likes of Partzilla.

Same as i never mentioned it in my modification write ups. Perhaps why my midifications lasted - yet others did not. The latest baskets from Suzuki are good. Dont waste time, coolent, oil, gaskets, knuckles and money repairing shot old baskets.

    Interesting! Just as I was trying to figure something out with a place to get a modification made... was wondering why all the sites were either dead (or in the WERKS case, mentioning they're stopping) The item number you're writing in the title, does that fit the SV1000 also...? The sites that show up when searching for the item number are only saying it fits the newer V-Strom... Haven't Suzuki made a part that fixes their issues, officially available for bikes that "need it"?

    Suzuki part 21200-31Y20 fits all SV1000, DL1000, and DL1050 engines. Not listed for but works fine and will cure chudder for a long, long time. I knew it was changed in the 2019 launch of the new DL1050 engines I first saw at Milan. I kept my website running for a couple of years after, so owners could use the free download of instructions, but my advice was to fit 21200-31Y20 after running them for a good while. Suzuki isn't obliged to admit the earlier baskets had a problem. It's not good for businesses and owners of those bikes. The great thing about Suzuki is that often, their engines are a development of previous, so parts are backwards compatible, as in this case. The American modifier just copied my design but spot welded an extra ring of metal and bearing on the back against the oil pump drive. Perhaps to claim some unique, but it breaks off so get inside and check you don't have it polluting your oil and binding on your oil pump drive gear. I was banned from the forums over there for pointing this out even though I was the main contributor. Good if they will no longer take his money to advertise but still stops me telling how it is. Very through answer, thank you! All sounds good, and I'm not personally on a modified basket... just stumbled upon the problem, and started looking around... I had sort of seem online that the 2000-4000 vibrations was "character" and hadn't thought further about it, until my KZread feed "mentioned" it, because I'm having the strator magnet issue right now and had seem a few videos on that.

    @@sharealike1Hello Sir, I own a 2009 dl1000k9, and I have to say I have tried the suggested advice of both yourself and Terry from Werks (via email) and unfortunately the part number 21200-31Y20 slides on easy enough and meshes with the gears but you cannot use the older friction plates. I could not even fit my EBC basket tool CT021 🙄 😒. So what am I to do. The basket slides on no problem over the needle bearing but I can't torque it down with the nut as the tool doesn't fir the basket and my friction plates will not fit either. Do I have to buy new plates and new inner hub and pressure plate and springs as well??? Will that even work together??? I'm very frustrated and confused at this point. Any advice or something I'm missing here would be greatly appreciated! Thanks 👍

  • @sharealike1

    @sharealike1

    Ай бұрын

    You don't describe why the plates or tool don't fit in the basket. Is it all tabs of the plates and tool don't fit the splines of the basket. Or just some? If some don't fit then it's likely to be that the aluminium casting of your new basket is out of shape. Occasionally happens when poorly packed for shipping. Knock or crush of the box anywhere throughout the long delivery chain from factory to your dealer or yourself. The very delicate ends of the basket splines can be bent without being noticed, but the parts will not fit.. Basket needs to go back to your supplier if you find this. Don't try to straighten anything. Too brittle the splines will often crack.

    I only needed to put the new bearing in very worn shot baskets. I put it in all because I could and it made a unique that others could not equal for 18 months. Then one modifier claimed he went one better by adding an extra bearing - which just broke out of the splatter welding they used. Have no end of them came here with the extra bearing broken out and bits missing. If you put a basket in with bearing both sides, I suggest folk get inside and make a check it's not breaking up and trashing their oil pump feed. The same bad modifier was also machining the basket casting which was claimed to balance them. Just weakened them un necessarily. I just put a new bearing in the middle where required and had no issue with balance. The basket, frictions and steels all self centred during the take up of the clutch anyhow. And remained centred while ever clamped up by the springs and pressure plate.

    @sharealike1

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi Brian. You are correct. Just to clarify as this video is seen by SV1000 owners and DL1000 owners with the clutch basket originating vibration. The SV1000 clutch basket has not truly been revised since 2005. They are just the same today (Feb. 2019) as they were from way back then. Same vibration while riding issues and clatter at idle by 10,000 miles. The DL1000 VStrom has been revised more often (ever since 2002 launch) as its still a current version of their lovely 1000 V Twin engine (well just over at 1030cc since they had to add a whisker to the bore to fit in the extra spark plug in the heads. A V twin but with four spark plugs. The latest version of the standard Suzuki clutch basket for the DL1000 (revised some time in 2018 engines) is in my own bike to evaluate. So far its doing as well as any stock DL1000 basket but still not the level of refinement of my fully modified baskets. Only after a good few owners have put some serious miles/km's on them will we know if the latest stock version from Suzuki is as durable as it should be for the money.
