Joey. A tip on the whole feeding thing. Get some rocks, preferably limestone, and put them in buckets or tubs with water and place them in a shadowy place in your garden. There they will grow a lot of algae. Put one at a time in the tank leaving the others outside to grow more algae. Once they finish grasing on the first one you take it out and replace it with a new one. The old one goes back in the bucket outside to grow new algae.

I think the problem with this aquarium could be the amount of rocks/hideouts and separations to create small territories inside the tank itself. By adding a lot more rocks, the males can't chase all the females or at least not the same ones again and again, they get lost and tired doing it, in this type of open tanks (especially with moderate footprint (I mean, height is not really important for this type of fish) it's easy for them. It's the same problems with hard M'bunas (maylandia, cynotilapias, some melanochromis auratus etc). Check some of the most ''rocky'' m'bunas aquariums, maybe you could try a different approach.

I used to breed these and made good profits. I got into breeding because I had a Trio one male and two females that did well together. I tried often to get new established colony’s but found that when I changed their environment in order for them to come live with me the pecking order would start all over dwindling a colony pretty quickly. I always found in my experience a trio for me would make it and breed well and live long lives or a colony that started off in same environment, and matured together in that same environment, then breeding and growing old together (until one dies which would start the pecking order eventually dwindling my entire colony)
