Do Lattice make the best hangboards? | Climbing Training Review Pt 2.

Спорт

Do Lattice make the best hangboards? And do these super technical bits of climbing training equipment live up to their reputation? We reviewed the most popular hangboards to answer which fingerboard is right for you.
We'll be looking at the 2 Lattice fingerboards crafted by the legendary Tom Randall & Ollie Tor - Lattice Testing and Training Rung & Lattice Triple Rung. Are they good for beginner fingerboard training? Can you do more than just hangboard training on them? And are they worth the price tag?
Check out our other two episodes in our ultimate hangboard review: Pt 1. Beastmaker and Pt. 3 Tension.

    Nice one Robbie, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on Dave Macleod's hangboard - I find it super comfortable (even on the tiny edge) but I'd love to know how it compares to the lattice 20mm edge.

    Yeah, I'd love to know how it feels compared to the Lattice Triple rung. I wanted a Dave Macleod board but ended up going with the triple for cost reasons. I almost felt guilty doing it as the Triple Rung from lattice has always felt like a bit of a cheap knockoff version of Daves.

    Nice video and great content! I use both BM2000 and the Lattice triple. They are both great and I agree to your review. One thing I don't agree with is that the Lattice isn't dependent on conditions. I actually find that it has way less friction with drier weather and I have to autoregulate. Another thing I noticed is that the first Lattice rungs have different wood (or finishing) to the triple. Friction on the 20mm of the triple is worse than in the original rung!

    Hey dimitris, Thanks for the comment dude. I don’t think they aren’t dependant on conditions, just less so than other edges I’ve tried. Example, the BM2000 middle edge for some reason gets mighty greasy compared with my Lattice in the same conditions. No idea why this is, but just an observation I’ve made over the last few years 😂 My best times on the lattice are always in colder temps for me, but there’s not such a stark difference as on the BM2000

    @@RobbiePhillips yes I hear you on the greasy BM! I like both of them and thought I’d share my experience so far. Yes like the colder temps too, but when it’s dry I spray some water on my fingertips before chalking up. I guess that’s not so much of an issue in Scotland 😂

  • @RobbiePhillips

    Haha yeah I’ve never sprayed water on my fingertips before a fingerboard session 😂 although on some crisp cold winters day it does feel really dry in the air, but then it’s cold dry not warm dry :)

    Great work guys. I would also took quality into consideration. Type of wood used which matters regarding durability and that should reflect in price. But I don't think it does as beastmakers are made of tulip wood which wears off much faster than for example crusher matrix which is made of lovely ash.

  • @RobbiePhillips

    @RobbiePhillips

    Good point! I didn't actually know that Tulip wood wears particularly fast. Actually most figerboards I've come across during the review series are made of Tulip wood

  • @MrDziuka

    @MrDziuka

    @@RobbiePhillips tulip wood is relatively cheap and easy to work with cost effective type of wood. Proper hardwood like ash, oak, Beachwood or other types of better quality hardwood is much more durable but also more expensive. If you have a closer look at oldish beastmakers that are in the climbing walls you'll notice that they are pretty worn because lots of traffic. You can fix it with bit of sanding every so often. I think that fingerboards made of proper hardwood will hold up much better. They also have different texture. Personally I love how ash feels. Check out crusher matrix if you have a chance sometime👍

    I only have a Lattice Tripple Edge and a Home made hang board myself and if say compared to a home made one the build quality is much better... I'm not too sure how it would compare to other professionals hangboard though, it does feel a bit cheap compared to the BMs I've used. I'd also love to know how it stacks up against Dave Macs board, which seems like the true original triple edge design

    Of the 10mm I tried to use my thumb on the 20mm edge... I could but it was really weird haha. But basically there are no issues at all with generally hanging from any of the edges - it’s really well designed in that way.
