Do Laptops Work Without a Battery? (Yes - Here's How!)

Ғылым және технология

Are you are asking yourself 'Will my laptop work without a battery?'
This video shows proof that a laptop will work without a battery as I take my (completely functional) laptop apart, disconnect the battery, and show that it will still power on without issue as long as the AC adapter is plugged in.
If you are having issues with your current battery, you are looking to replace your battery, or just want to run your laptop like a desktop then this video shows that it is possible.
If this video helped you, consider supporting the channel directly!

00:00 - Intro and quick answer
00:47 - How a laptop works without a battery
03:13 - Removing the battery from my laptop for proof
Although laptops are designed to run with batteries, Windows treats the battery and the AC adapter as two completely separate devices and can function with the battery disabled or even completely uninstalled from the laptop.

Oh wow thank you so much Sir for this wonderful video! I’m a freelance digital artist and my laptop battery was swollen so I’m still waiting for replacement. I came across this video and it’s a total life saver! Thank you! I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to work for the next days or weeks having to wait for replacement. Plus this is a great tip considering I work a lot on the computer which could help minimize battery issues in the future.

It's interesting that even the mechanic was puzzled by it. Generally, laptops should indeed work without a battery, but sometimes there can be specific issues with certain models. The fact that it's a TOSHIBA slim laptop with a touch screen adds an extra layer of complexity. Have you tried reaching out to TOSHIBA customer support for assistance?

I usually take out my battery and just use the adapter only when am at home, if I go traveling I will insert the battery and use my laptop when am on an airplane. I mean other than that. If you’re just using the laptop at home there really is no need to use it unless you’re traveling. But using it without the battery won’t harm your laptop in anyway I’ve been using it that way for years on my old laptops and never had any issues. More convenient.

Hey! I am also using a razer laptop. Razer stealth 13 to be exact. I am not sure if the problem is my adapter or my laptop battery. My laptop does not seem bloated and gpu temperature usually reaches 27-54°. It only reaches the highest when I play games. Other than that it stays at home unmoved, untouched. I baby it and blow off dust and wipe away some oil. I wouldn’t want to purchase a $100 official razer adapter just to find out the problem was the battery. I ended up purchasing an adapter from amazon and it hasn’t come in yet. If it still won’t charge, I might do what you did for 2 years. Did you remove the battery yourself or just left it in and keep disabling the driver/device?

Thank you for the video. If I disable the battery, will it prevent the occurrence of the liquid and subsequent rusting on connected components, similar to what happens in AA or AAA batteries when it's not used for a long time?
