Hmm, I worry that the "You know we're just having fun here?" approach sets the dynamic up to where the other person may not feel comfortable saying that they were feeling differently. Essentially you're asking "you're where I am, right?" I think its kinder to simply share where you're at like "Right now I'm just look for casual" or "Right now I'm hoping to find something that can grow."

  • @k1tkat-kate

    @k1tkat-kate

yeah, I thought that too. Share what you're thinking and feeling without expectation the other person feels the same. give them space to feel differently if that's the case.

Yes! It can really hurt to hear that someone assumes that you feel the same as they do. I would always have a conversation from the start at the latest the second meetup of what I was looking for both not to waste their time or mine. I was dating to in the end find something serious but with no rush to get there more so People know that casual was fine but I was seeing multiple people until I was in something serious and long term. And that was really hard when people were unclear with their intenions

Interesting approach. Don't you think shared interests are more important though? Stating your approach at the outset like that kind of kills the possibility it could be anything else. I don't make friends easily and I can be crazy serious at times. That's why I prefer to steer the conversation to something neutral where we don't have the pressure to judge. Thank you for your time.

So truthfully, I managed to somehow meet my boyfriend at the start of the pandemic (about 3 weeks in, so back when we were REALLY locked in our houses). Would have never thought it would happen in a million years, because nobody could go anywhere! I had gone back on OkCupid after about a year of not using it because I was so starved for human connection so I figured I would just chat with someone interesting and that would be nice for a day or two. I never in a million years thought I was going to meet the person I am most likely going to spend the rest of my life with. Pandemic dating is HARD, and especially so at the beginning of this insanity, in the spring. We spent weeks sitting on my porch, with me at the bottom of the steps and him at the top, because that’s all we could do. When we were getting to know each other, we’d never even shaken hands, let alone anything else. However, we did get to know each other VERY well VERY quickly...because all we could do was talk. Once social bubbles became a thing and we were allowed in each other’s houses, it was significantly better. Now, we’ve been together almost 8 months and I’m almost certain he’s the one I’ll be with forever. So, I’m one of the lucky ones I suppose. Do I recommend starting a relationship during a global pandemic? Honestly, no. It’s really hard. But sometimes your heart knows what it wants and you find a way to make it work. Sending love and luck to everyone dating during these crazy times!!

I feel very strange about how you talk about sex and intimacy - taking it slow, communicating, expecting to have a great time- because it wasn’t like I experienced it. It wasn’t too bad, but was never light and easy mood over there. I’m still figuring out what do I like and I understand that I didn’t really know my parents, I tried to pretend that I’m ok with getting closer with people I don’t really know, literally was faking expecting to making it comfortable for myself, but it never happened. Honestly, I’m excited about meeting and dating new people to build relationships of a better quality Absolutely love your videos, thank you for sharing it, you are gorgeous and new lighting looks really nice! I always genuinely wonder how (especially as a female) anyone can feel safe hooking up with someone they don’t know. It takes me forever to even begin to open up to, let alone be intimate with anyone. Even when dating online for a number of dates I still to visible public places and let someone know where I’m going and their (hopefully correct) name/picture. I also google search them. I’m still very nervous and cautious even doing that. I’m sure my history of sexual abuse plays a huge part in my view/fears of this, but I’ve always been curious.

I took a permanent vow of celibacy years ago, best decision I ever made, I only wish I had always been celibate. The whole dating thing, whether it's just about casual sex or "looking for love" was just hellish, the complications, hardships involved, the whole thing is just too emotionally/mentally taxing and I can't cope with any of it anymore, the pain suffering and misery far outweighs the fun and pleasure and I realized not everyone is "meant to be" in a any specific kind of relationship, there's no such thing as a "soul mate" for every person.

Oh my god, you asked about trying to date during the pandemic and it has has been... interesting. I've never been in a relationship, I'm 19 and I moved out on my own this year. I was thinking that my dating life was going to get a real kick once I was living independently in a new town and going out and getting to know new people. Instead it has just been me inside my apartment, trying to survive the first semester of university while doing all online lectures and swiping on dating apps when I happen to have some time. The situation with the pandemic was looking better during autumn so I've met up with a couple of people for dates but they haven't really led to anything more, and the rest of the time the "dating" has just been slightly awkward conversations or getting ignored on these damn apps 😭 I just really wish I could go out and meet people organically and have some fun flirting instead of just the constant swiping, but I'll have to wait until it's safe to be hanging out with lots of people again 🚶🏻‍♀️

I only dated as a single person for about 7 months before I started dating my current partner of 4 years. I don’t know that I miss anything about it, but he’s the only person I’ve ever been in a serious/sexual relationship with so whenever I’m playing drinking games with my friends they all know who I’m talking about if sex comes up 😂 they definitely tease me for it, but all in lighthearted fun

I've been single for five or six years. I don't even know how long, actually. I'm perfectly happy alone. But good for you, finding a good partner. Nicely done! And walks of shame are not shameful. We need to call them walks of pride. Or walks of conquest. Or walks of, 'HA!!!'"

6:00 100% Esther perel made a good point in saying that... back in the day humans grew up in a village. We were surrounded by many ppl who act as our friends, lover, confidant, mentor, humor deep chats etc... and now we expect one person to fill all those things... its such a big ask.

You have to be able to do single well, if you are really lost on your own you will scare the good ones away and the bad ones will see an easy mark. The one I see now made the first move we knew each other for a few years before we got involved.

I've been single for most of my life. At 28, Ive just had two relationships, each 3 months long, 2 fwb's also very short duration, basically led a mostly a solitary loner life just focusing on my career and hobbies. I seem to be doing the same thing again, that sometimes i feel like Im not compatible for relationship life. I could never had a one night stand with a total stranger though, I at least need to know the person on an acquaintance level.

I'm grey ace and the pandemic has been great because it has removed any expectation from myself of looking for a partner, which used to come with a healthy dose of worrying about how to put myself out there without disappointing people on apps often used for hookups. If anyone has advice on asexual dating I'd love to hear it!

Im not a dater at all, my experience with Tinder has cemented that. Its never done anything for me(I've deleted my account at least 5 times) and I find it to be a bit shallow regardless of how honest or funny you are on your profile. I prefer to meet people and get to know them before anything. That's just me I guess. Each to their own, its great to hear stories about weird flings people have had

I found my current partner on Tinder right before the pandemic began... Pretty lucky, because I wasn't really taking the app seriously anymore. I was just looking on it for entertainment value, because hardly anyone would actually say more than one thing, if at all. And that was IF someone sent me a like. The person I matched with was someone I had seen in years before, and liked in years before, but my (one daily free) superlike was the first they saw of me. Shocking to see how many likes women get. Also, US Tinder is SO different from European Tinder! And when I was in the US, there was some kind of daily 'choose your own adventure' thing, with an actual dark mode. Quite an amusing event, and quite a shame the app doesn't give you that dark mode as an option in general.

Wow!!! I'm not on tinder. But I don't think I could bring up some old stories good or bad. The women in my past may not appreciate that, and like they say..... The past comes back to haunt me lol. My luck, I tell a couple stories and the next day I have some angry women knocking at my door lol. Must say your husband has to be very understanding. I'm a little Old School. I don't think if you were my wife flirting with other men regardless if it wasn't going to lead to anything is something I wouldn't be comfortable with. But that is just my opinion. Others may be fine with it. But I like your channel and your personality. You seem like your a lot of fun and there is no doubt that your honest because you put a lot of your personal life (Past and Present) out there for the world to see and hear. I am actually proud of you for your courage and your integrity and that what you do may help others. I just wanted to drop a few lines here for you and say keep up the good work that your doing because you seem to enjoy what you do as well. So take care and stay safe and I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas. Semper Fi Art

The “body count “ conversation came up with my friends when I hadn’t had sex with anyone yet. I have a very dark humor and when it came to me I said “I think 900... oh sex partners... yeah 0” they all laughed and started thinking how weird that term was. I said it that way though because some of my friends were a bit “high” and they had been shamed before so I didn’t want them to think I would shame them or think I was better

It has always been that way though the rules of courtship have always been difficult and hard. Look at Pride and Prejudice at Jane's and Binglys relationship, Bingly was super casual right up to the point he proposed marriage! Cos that was how it was done, they had a few parties and dinners together all with the air of plausible deniability until one put themselves on the line. Asking for something serious comes at the risk of being rejected and feeling shame, so it's easier to live in comfort with the air of plausible deniability.
