I do this sort of thing a lot, though not with horses. I'm a musician and often have to take several steps back from pieces to break down certain passages that require very slow work before I can play them at the required speed for performance. When I screw up at speed it's like being bucked off the keys! So, slowing way down and going step by step makes all the difference. Thanks for this, Warwick, and for all your videos. I love learning from yo!

Great video! The stalker man analogy reminds me of a Tom Dorrance saying : " Horsemanship isn't about learning what to do to "fix" horses, it's about changing who we are with horses." It is very often about just stopping doing the things that cause the problems. Pulling back on reins, kicking a horse forward when they are anxious, are often the things that cause a buck.. when you take away those habits the buck often doesn't show up. Absolutely agree it's normally about going back to foundations, but often it's as simple as ' if you don't want to be kicked in the nuts, stop harassing women who have no interest in you"!

In escuela vaquera, the Spaniards, Portuguese and French almost never pull the reins or kick the animal (Maybe the French do it more often during dressage), the saddle is meant for staying firm on the animal, not subdue it... so the temper of the horse itself comes on flote. I've never understand why people do those things when the animal is so big, it can easily kill you. But maybe that's me given that horsemanship seems to run in the family.

Always go back to the groundwork. The fundamentals. If you fix the small things first, you automatically fix the big things by doing that in my opinion. It's what I do with every horse that comes to me with an issue. I go back to the groundwork and work on that first. That's where you will find the holes, that's where you need to start. Just my opinion after over 50 yrs of working with horses. And I'm still learning new things every day that I work with these amazing animals!! Best Regards Warwick!! I hope you and your family had a great Christmas. I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year ahead as well. May you have Many Blessings come to you and your family in the year ahead. A friend got more horse than she had expected and I helped her restart and retrain a very defensive mare. The first time I went to get on a few people came to watch 'the show'. I told them if there was a show then I hadn't properly done my job.

@Dr. Christopher Johnson The National Capital of Canada Doctor. And all is well. I delivered 5 foals over December to January 7th of this year. All foals are healthy and doing well. I'm actually starting to work a bit with the foals now. Halperin them, and doing a bit of leading them in the stall with mom right there. All the mares know and trust me as they've been with me since September of 22. Best Regards to you Doctor, hope you have a Blessed Day!! Jenn.

Sorry, this comment has nothing to do with the subject of the video. Just saw that you have tattoos, and for some reason, that surprised me. Nothing against them. I have them too. Anyway... Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. And here's to a great new year, to one of my favorite horsemen 🎉🎉🎉 From your friend in Yuma AZ. ❤️🌵☀️⛈️🌈☮️🐎

So Warwick have you ever ran into a horse that had your number that you had to give up on?

Hey Warwick, your comment about the sticky front feet made me think of a middle-aged Appendix mare that I had had. Acquired her when she was 12 years old. She could be jumped but was very tense about it because she had an inherent fear of touching anything with her front feet. You couldn't put ground poles before a jump b/c she couldn't handle it. She was even hesitant and tense about stepping on a hose at the wash rack. Any tips for a horse with a phobia like this? I just wonder what I could have done to get her over this fear.
