Do 'All-Rounder' Surfboards Exist? | Rusty Miso Joyride
Спорт
“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
Anybody holding Dogecoin right now is probably reciting that line over and over in their heads - so simple, yet so true.
The same can be said about the “all-arounder” surfboard, aka the “one-board quiver.”
The truth is, no one surfboard is built to handle all the conditions the ocean can throw at you. But even in the realm of “normal waves” it’s hard to find a board that works equally well in chest-high wedges as it does a DOH point. So don’t let the marketing dorks try to fool you.
When I received my Rusty Miso, it looked like a standard, easy-to-ride, small wave performance board. In my mind, the board review was already done. I’d go do a few wiggles in waist-high surf, swap a few fins, and call it a day.
The Miso had other ideas.

Get off the leg...
Kind of a bummer you cant see the board dims at the end because of the screen on the left :(
Twin plus trailer would have been the most fun
Don’t apologise mikey c board looks dope 🔥
Awesome review. I been making my own boards for 5yrs. All of them are 5 box set up. My go to board would hook every now and again. So I tried keel fins. Dam this board came to life. Almost like a split personality;) I'd recommend trying keels as a twin set up.

I second this opinion! A lacklustre board turned into an EXTREMELY fun board!

Keels are great. It's the fastest and loosest setup for small waves. You also don't have to place them all the way back, that kills the drive. Place em forward 10 1/2 inches or 10 if you want to be conservative. And tow them in the same angle that you would the outside fins on a thruster.

@Clint Jones thank you so much for that information. I'm definitely going to do that. This new found hobby has got me so hooked.

You're welcome. Yes shaping is fun. I'm glad you're going to use those measurements. I experimented with different measurements for keels and tried traditional values of back and somewhat straight ahead but determined that was just dumb. Surfers are conservative and afraid to try anything. If you view keel placement the same as an upright fin, they perform really well. The farther forward, the more lose they get, the farther back the more hold they have. Ime, 11 inches forward was excessively lose, while 10 1/2 or 10 was a sweep spot. I would say 9 1/2 would begin to feel holdier.

@Clint Jones curiosity question. What was the best length & dimensions of your boards you had success with the keel fins. I'm sure a lot of it depends on your hight, weight & surfing capability.
Great review as always STAB. Any chance letting us know what tune is playing from 4:08 ?
You made up for the horrible spray job with your great review and ripping 🤙
The Blade, and The 1984, are the two primest bestest models.
Awesome awesome cool cool!!
Nice... What length is it? (I have an ad over the dims) Thanks
yeah mate, dylan mex5 in 6'4 with heavey glass job. great for northern nsw.
Stock dims bro? The playlist suggestion covered your dims. Thanks💯
I don't work for or am sponsored by Firewire, but I swear I can ride my Sci-Fi 2.0 if basically EVERYTHING up to 8 feet and it feels amazing. It's the closest thing to an all-arounder I've ever owned. This Miso looks fun, but I wouldn't call it an all-arounder.

Don't those break really easily though?
@sumatran
Жыл бұрын
@@turbowtime9611 The opposite. They're practically indestructible. I surf basically every day and mine barely had any pressure dents after a year. The DO yellow, though, and if you get a ding you better pull it out fast and FULLY dry it because the epoxy just soaks up water and does not-so-pretty things to the blank if you don't repair it properly.

@@tezf6883 I've got one and love it for slightly heavier waves, but wouldn't call it a true all-arounder.
Is this board more versatile than the FireWire Mash-up though ?
Paint job is rad
My all rounder is a6’6” mini gun x 18” wide x 2” thick 🎉

if you want an all rounder you get a hypto imo
naked Viking do twin that you can put in trusters
Should test it out with bigger people. Already seen small people surf it
No, all-rounders don't exist. You can get more float out of performance boards to make them work better in smaller waves, but they won't work in real tiny waves or big waves. A board can be good in a few areas but not all of them.
