Because of patriotism. As someone who lives/goes to school in the US, has lived here for a long time, Americans think they own the world and don't feel the need to learn geography or take a citizenship test. They don't even know where the 50 states are on a map. Which in my opinion is really sad and only feeds the egos of those racist Americans.

I think Latino needs to be redefined as “ Any people group who has roots from any people groups that has Latin language base, specifically Spanish, French, Italians, Portuguese, and Romanians, that live in the New World, such as North and South America. EX. Hispanics of South and North America, and the French Quebec’s of Canada.” That is how I personally see it.

  • @IsaacBurgos1

I'm not sure but I think Latinos are the ones who speak a language that comes from Latin (Spanish, French, Potuguese, Italian, etc). Latinoamericans are the Latinos from America continent and Hispanic are the ones who talk Spanish (like Spanish or Mexican) people. So why don't we call Latinos to the Europeans ? ( latinoeuropeans). At least the ones who deserve it. By the way, Brazil is Latino but not Hispanic. Glad I help you!

@@IsaacBurgos1Burgos thanks for clearing it up, I was typing fast. But I still believe the Latino term should change to all those who have Latin (Or Roman) based ancestry who lives in the New World because that is more inclusive to all those who have Roman ancestry and speak a Romance Language, and not have to be those who have Spanish roots. But in that inclusivity, there are some things where the line must be drawn, such as the Slavs because of there their own people group and their own languages with complications, and the English, since its a primarily Germanic language with most people from England can trace there ancestry back to Germany, or Northern Germanic people groups, such as Nords and Swedes, and the Germans. That is why the English refer to themselves as Anglo-Saxon.

So one of the guys asked us where we were from, and as I was the only one of my friends that knew English I answered, and the conversation went like this: +So girls where are you from?? -We are from Spain +Oh that's cool, we went to Mexico once and we really loved it. -Oh ok, and have you ever been to Spain?? +Eem, we went to Mexico. -Yeah, but Spain it's not in Mexico +Really?? Well I mean you are latinamerican, so how cone you are this far from your continent?? Bro, Spain is in Europe, Im European, and I love my latinamerican brothers and sisters, but you are just telling me you flew all over the Atlantic Ocean and you haven't looked up Google maps or even a map and you haven't seen that south of The Netherlands is a big noticeable country named Spain?? Did you guys ever had a Geography teacher or test?? Also, don't tell me go back to your country or tell me don't speak Spanish, we are in America, because I will beat your uneducated @ss, because if I tell you I'm from Spain and still think I should go back to my country, I will remember you that it was a guy from my country that discovered your country and colonized it, so you exist because of that, don't tell anyone to go back to their country, is rude and offensive

When I get to speak it in public with people I feel a connection. Even if it's someone from Mexico, Spain, Cuba, etc. Yes, they are all different cultures but we share this warmth together. At least that's what I feel when I speak Spanish with someone.

In fact I don’t like the word either because of the connotation it has. Also it put us in the same group as Spain but not Brazil and culturally we have more in common with Brazilians that’s with Spanish people. And I really can’t care less about the term Latinx, Spanish is a language that use genders, and when you use the masculine it includes everyone, so for me Latinx or Latinos is a thing of preference

Wow Valeria's situation hit home. I'm not perfectly fluent in Spanish and I'm more pale than the average Cuban but that doesn't take away from the fact that I am still Cuban. Growing up in Miami I've just been labeled the white kid. I'm still trying to learn Spanish as a way to basically validate myself since I wasn't lucky enough to be taught as a little kid. It hurts a lot to be denied part of your own culture even though that's what I've grown up surrounded by and what I embrace.

A minute before "Latinx" was not inclusive. A minute after "...my latino parents". This shows how difficult is to change (although you don't have to change at all if you don't want) the way you say sth, just because the politically-correct people decided (based on their opinions) everyone has to use those new terms.
