There's a movie about him growing up in Eastwood - and about Viv Anderson and Gary Birtles. It's called "Local Heroes", 2023, available in the usual places.

It's an amazing story. I looked for my Aunt for years and had my DNA but no look. She disappeared in 1933 never to be seen again. I did research found in Enfield in 1965 but then it went cold.

Get the work records for where his dad worked. Don’t think it will be hard to find a polish guy called Peter that worked dyeing. Ppl have great memories, esp about secret love affairs/ children etc

It sounded like they were waiting for a response regarding inquiries made about the place of work. But maybe there are no records available any more, so people's memories are important.

They only have the name 'Peter'. Probably an anglicised name, and not his birth name. No family name, no date of birth, no exact place of birth, presumably no matches on a any public family DNA testing sites. It's tricky. The way Prof. Turi worded it, it sounded like a reply hadn't been received regarding 'Peter's' place of work.

@nicolad8822 100 years ago is not a problem, depending on the country, if you have more identifying details. Especially if others in the (extended) family have uploaded DNA, photos and other information on public family tree systems. Fun fact: I am a Gen X-er and my biological grandmother was born in 1895. 😅 My grandmother was 41 years old when she gave birth to my Dad, and my dad was around the same age when I was born.

@@daniellamcgee4251 Well yes with public records if you have a full name. And they obviously did not have any close DNA hits or Turi would have found them. But company records, and expecting former workmates to still be alive?

@@daniellamcgee4251 He came over from Poland during the war. The Nazis destroyed a lot of records, and British records were patchy back then too, because they were more concerned with the war. It's gonna be difficult, unless someone can personally remember him - and not many will still be alive, if they were old enough to be working in the 1950s.

Takes two to tango however the onus is on women to take precautions against unwanted pregnancies. And at least know the man's full name just in case you end up with his child. I think it is incredibly selfish and unfair to withhold such important information from children. I sincerely hope Mr Woodcock gets some proper answers.

Different times. He was born before the pill was even available. You have no idea whether she took precautions or not - they certainly weren't 100% effective. As regards not telling him - that's an incredibly personal issue, and it's wrong to make assumptions without knowing all of the circumstances.
