I don't agree with you! This is disgraceful!

Shared matches, through lines, & dna match’s trees, why even bother doing genealogy anymore! Those three tools are very important to the work on our families & trees! To take all three away plus more, BS!!!!!!

I don't agree either, I'm extremely unhappy with what Ancestry did! Very underhanded, also I can't even use the family plan because I'm in Canada.
I just noticed this payroll myself a couple of days ago. I disagree with it. When I bought the test kit and took my DNA sample, it was my understanding that I would have access to anybody else who matched my DNA. Now they want to use my DNA to make them more money. I disagree with this. I have built my tree on ancestry and will be looking for a way to remove it. When I have done so they will no longer have this information to sell.
I can see how this lack of information could actually discourage people on this company to care about doing Genealogy. It probably will not promote as much tree building, without those shared matches to wonder about relationships. They are a multi-billion dollar company, thanks to us..
Thank you for the explanation and update. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this. If this company wasn't owned by an equity firm, maybe I'd feel better about it. I've been a paid subscriber FOREVER, so I hope this means I won't eventually end up paying even more. I do see this as another potential obstacle in getting shared matches to respond.
You did a far better job explaining this than Ancestry. There has been a lot of moaning and hand wringing on various social media groups. Thanks.

Unfortunately genealogy buffs as a group are extremely stingy and think everything should be free. Ask them to pay for a cemetery internment list and they have a cow.
Time to backup your trees & just use a desktop software like Roots Magic.
I’m sorry but ancestry just stinks these days. They are nickel and diming us for services that have been free in the past or are free (and basic) in other places. Also they still haven’t given us a chromosome browser. I know you feel shared matches is the only tool you need, but I respectfully disagree. In certain situations you really need to see the segments. I’m starting to think I should just make the jump entirely to Myheritage on principle alone. 🙁

You can upload for free to Myheritage until 10th March and get all DNA tools.
I wish they would allow deceased relatives who took DNA tests with other companies years ago to be able to bring those results into Ancestry. I have several DNA tests that would be of great help if I could bring them into Ancestry.
I’ve been surprised how much Ancestry has developed for us to work with our matches without charging beyond our initial testing investment. I don’t mind paying for things that make my work easier. I don’t mind fronting them money so they can continue to improve.

I agree. If someone told me in the 90s that I could pay just 5 bucks to have all of this info scanned to my home computer, I would be over the moon!!! It cost $8 to order one Record back then!
I'm confused about how these new shared subscriptions work. I can find several other Ancestry subscribers to share a membership with, but do we have to move all our trees to one account? Or can our separate accounts be linked in some way?
Unfortunately, sharing your subscription with other users is not possible for people living outside the US. Quote taken from Ancestry's own website: "Note: Family plans are only available in the United States currently." Maybe next time you are in contact with or interview Crista Cowan, you could address this issue. I live in Mexico and I don't pay at all a lower price for any subscription tier. Also, the cost of an AncestryDNA kit is higher than in the US and we never get any offers or discounts like you do during the holidays unless one opens a new account...
I called Ancestry about Family Plan. It's for US members. IN Canada our household is paying just over $100.00 A MONTH.

Yikes! Pay someone to get you a gift subscription when they are half price.

Hi, how could you be paying $100 monthly? I’m in Canada as well.
They do make you pay for more things now then what I started. I just found out I now have to pay to see who what common ancestors I share with my matches. I only pay once a year to see new information. I'm not going to pay every month.
I paid for a trial of DNA plus. There is some cool information about my matches communities. But it looks like it doesn't work yet. Why can't I see which of my matches relate to those communities? That would be a big help.
Interesting. I'm a paying subscriber but today I started getting internal server errors when trying to view my DNA matches. Also the performance today is woeful. Hope this gets resolved fast. Also it's annoying that even if the unsubscribed DNA match shares their match list you can't use the side view filters. So now if you paid for multiple people to take tests will we need to pay for a subscription for each person. Hope that isn't the same for the other features going behind the pay wall and this is a bug or glitch of the rollout.
Thank you for this information. I did not realize 4 individuals could share one subscription. I will be checking into this TODAY. I help several others by using my account and now maybe they can share some cost.
4 additional accounts. Not 3. Do you know when the grandparent Side View is coming?

I appreciate these updates. Certainly not excited about an extra expense but I can understand that there must be an extra expense involved to beef up their security.
This is not ok
Sorry, the tools they have created is one thing but to put MY TREE behind a paywall for other users is damn near theft. I have uploaded my research to help other people find me and our common ancestors, something Ancestry is already benefitting from both by default and since it is used by their tools. We are talking thousands of hours work and documentation. For Ancestry to monetise this information that I am sharing for free is simply a deal breaker and I am seriously thinking about taking both my tests and my tree down from there.
I have four or five people on my paid account, but am the only person who works with the dna…KZread has good instructions on this
This is very upsetting news!!! These tools are a big part of Ancestry & building your trees! Shared matches are a vital part & to have to pay extra for that now is so wrong!!!!! We already pay enough! Next thing will probably be paying to see your matches at all! Maybe it’s time to cancel & go to My Heritage!! Bad move Ancestry!!!😡

I've been with ancestry for years. I have no complaints. People keep wanting them to do more but don't want to pay for it. I don't see people throwing a fit when the cable company raises their rates after adding channels you'll never use. At least here you have a choice.
