DNA Colour Shift Ionic

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I had a great opportunity to "Paint Some Shit" with a highly skilled painter called Shaun Greenwell, he is a well known Custom Painter in Melbourne and has a lot of experience with DNA Custom Paints.
This colour is DNA Colour Shift Ionic and is a fairly straight forward procedure, prep work is no different to any other standard solvent based paint job, masking etc. The first stage is black basecoat until coverage is achieved then 2-4 coats of the DNA Custom Paints Colour Shift Ionic Pearl until desired effect has been reached then 2 coats of the DNA HS Diamond Clear.
The Diamond Clear clear is quite thick to start with as most HS clears are and it was a cool day so we warmed the clear up first to about 30 Celsius and added 15% reducer to help with flow.
To take a paint job like this to the next level a flow coat would be highly recommended but I've found most customers aren't willing to spend the extra to get it done, most people outside of the trade don't understand how much of a difference doing a flow coat makes and see it as a waste of time and money "When the car is already painted, why would you paint it again?"
It is up to us as the technician to do our best to explain the full benefit of doing a flow coat.
I hope you enjoy this video but why are you still reading this "Get out there and Paint Some shit!!!"
You can order any DNA Custom Paints directly from their website or through their distributors which are rapidly growing worldwide and Australia wide.

I appreciate this video very much because I am new to painting and this shows very well the technique in spraying and adjusting the air pressure as needed to suit the painter's needs or comfort zone-in so doing all goes well-at least it did go very well and all in all was very impressive all the way around both of you were fantastic and it shows

Spraypaint Productions hey buddy, so glad I saw your comment. I’ve been spraying for 30+ years as hobby work on the side mainly doing automotive and some truck and industrial work and absolutely love it. I have done some cabinet and door work in the past and had always used a lacquer paint and generally had good results but am real curious what type of material you spray and was wondering about some of the urethane based materials that are out now how they would do and if they might be more durable than the lacquers? What paint and what brand do you spray for wood products and what sheen are you using? Thank you so much for the info, I truly appreciate it! Take care!

I have got to say...this fella really put it down. If I tried to shoot with his technique and distance from panel it would have been ruined. I also like that he was walking the entire car when putting the color on. Also, I had the initial thought of the bumper covers positioned as if mounted but reality set in about the color shifting and ...well...duh. Master painter, master job, really nice. Didn't quite get what you were telling him about the hood when shooting the clear. Looked like he was really putting it down strong.

Jaiwaan Singleton Geary keep at it man and invest in a good gun for yourself. If you're a refinisher I'd suggest a tekna pro lite. Perfect gun for clear and easy to shoot base and its cheap but good quality. I started bodywork at the same age as you and now I've been a prepper for 6 ish year and a painter for 2. Keep at it and don't rush paint jobs

when i had multiple supernova guns and was using the pps system id actually load 2 identical guns with clear instead of changing out the pps cups. Usually only on a custom job of a candy job not on collision work. And id also hold it upside down and pull the trigger till fluid came out, then the gun will spray upside down for getting rockers and bumper edges real good or id sometimes load my lph80 or minijet with pps cup and clear for rocker bottoms.

Such an amazing finish! I saw a Benz the other day that I swear was producing five different colors depending on how you looked at it. Blue, red, green, gold, yellow...Probably more than that, but that's what I could make out for sure! Maybe it's just because we're getting a different perspective than we usually do with this video, but it looked like that clear gun was producing a lot more overspray than I see when you paint? Obviously it wasn't an issue; the car came out great! Just an observation. :)

Good spray job.In the 70s worked in a car wash/garage/body shop. By no mean claiming to be an expert. 99% prep 1% paint. I liked the painters sweep on the hood. little to quick on the side.maybe didn't want to get runs. the roof I found it best to start int the middle as any horizontal panel. Now as for the mixing. 33% thinning flows like molten glass dries like glass. just my style. slow the air and gun down and watch the flow.

Hi Gunman, wow am I glad I found your vids. KUDOS! for such well presented info. Nearly everyone else takes soooo long to get to the point, but you are spot on and give just the right level and amount of advice to comprehend what you're trying to achieve. Your openness and honesty is refreshing. Got a black car (solid colour , non metal/flake) that I want to do with the Iconic colour shift paint. Can I ... 1) leave the clear coat on and prep sand it 400 grit, and lay down a colour shift coat series, or 2) would I need to give it a few coats of black first. IE: would the sanded clear coat mess up the Colour Shift , or you think that would work ?

cheers Gunman, 2 coats of Black it is. hey, had a thought for masking off difficult/detailed ares...cut out a rectangle or circle paper to prevent overspray, then use a plasti-dip /silicone rubber paint type as a mask layer, then trim it up. had any experience doing it that way ( too expensive ) ?
