A comparison between how MIDIs play and sound when using both the GUS patches with the DMXGUS lumps included in the gusgonna.wad file and using Doom's built-in DMXGUS lumps.
The tracks will go back and forth between parts the MIDIs used in the video, showing how they are played with gusgonna.wad and without it. Some tracks differ from others.
I provided the download links to the files to play with an emulated GUS configuration, you can read more about GUS here: www.chocolate-doom.org/wiki/i...

ok it sounded better when it's optimized and improved but it kinda sounded terrible without it. even though I got some soundfonts for windows laptop and also for this mac mini running mac os x catalina which i am using now. that i am commenting on your video and your channel on this web browser.

with gusgonna that music should sound properly but it sounds like fucking SHIT! without gusgonna. well this is why advance gravis keeps making gamepads and shit rather instead of soundcards but its a total bitch and a pain in the hiney.

The fault was on Doom's programmers': Gravis made an amazing soundcard for the time, it was up to the softwarists to make it work and correctly interface their programs with the card (they must have screwed up whatever instruments table they came up with during the finishing touches). The fact that gusgonna makes Doom sound so good just proves my point.

@@andy5178 I was going to reply something similar. One Must Fall 2097 is a decent example of how good a GUS can sound. Whatever happened with Doom, it clearly wasn't written for the GUS and yeah, the instruments are messed up in several songs. It's really a shame cause the GUS is getting a bad reputation lately solely because Doom 1 music is screwed up and people think GZDoom is a good reference / that because of that one game, it's a shit card and couldn't possibly even remotely sound as good as the SC-55.
