DMX Krew Makes a track in his studio in realtime

Фильм және анимация

Class podcast by DMX Krew (Ed Upton) direct from his studio where he hooks up some of his favourite gear and takes the listener through his song writing process. Really cool. Specially for nerds.

    One of my favourite producers. Can't believe how quickly he can make a great sounding track: a man that knows his gear and got the funk

    Ed DMX, radicalising individuals into electro fundamentalists for 20 years! I've been a fan since 99'. When I started learning production 5 years ago I began analysing his tracks and came up with a certain approach to synthesis, drum pattern programing and hardware workflow in general. It's interesting, but obviously fitting, to see that what I came up with is exactly the same approach that he uses here.

    Every now and then I come back to this vid and find instant inspiration. So nice to hear Ed making this stuff in real-time. Really wished he made some more of these and with recorded video, waaay better then "against the clock" where they pull the plug just when it gets interesting!

    How do you add in glide? I assume you can only do that with some synths...

  • @midinerd

    @midinerd

    9 жыл бұрын

    tracer690 Either the sequencer has a built-in function to let you slide between notes (like a 303) - or one writes in pitch-bend info which is unlikely on hardware and fairly tedious. slide/glide on synthesizers is known as portamento though. gliding between frequencies.

  • @piynubbunyip

    @piynubbunyip

    tracer690 1:11 mark - the SH-101 has a little sequencer that has a programmable portamento.

    All that gear! You can barely transport it, it's not sustainable, it's bloody expensive, you can't save setups except by remembering. I never understood the hardware fetish. Too young (or poor) maybe.

    He said in a FACT video that he acquired all his gear for a fair price since it wasn't that expensive at the time when he got them. :)

    IMO, working with hardware is not about convenience and for sure not a way to save money. I started in the box, with a usb midi controller and some vst’s, but I bought a Mopho keyboard some years after and immediately realized the hype about hardware. It has limitations and it is expensive, but it opened a new world for me. ....it is inspiring and relaxing...and sounds awsome! After the mopho, I went for a Tempest, Tr8, Intellijel Atlantis, Octatrack ....and much more, so before getting into hardware, take on count that you will not buy just one piece!

    the gear doesn't matter is the soul that matters. But those instruments actually have a soul on their very own
