DMV: The Journey to Oaxaca
Фильм және анимация
I saw the CRAZIEST stuff on my trip to Oaxaca! Mystical mountain shrines in the middle of NOWHERE, mysterious M.C. Escher-inspired stair constructions, a strange town where the inhabitants still believe in goblins (gnomes), peacocks, homemade carnitas cooked daily, INCREDIBLE Basaltic Rock Prisms, waterfalls, a SUSPENSION bridge spanning a CANYON, and an American couple in Puebla who make their living selling gorgeous, hand-made straight RAZORS! This BIZARRE trip to the south of Mexico took me thru a total of 5 states!

I was a student of geography so rock formations and topography interests me. I rode thru Oaxaca and parts of MX city…..and of course interior mountain regions…love riding in MX. I’ve crossed over at Mission, TX, El Paso and Columbus, NM….live in Austin….lived for a year on the border in Port Isabel, TX.

Oh geez. It’s been a long time since I took that trip. Just ride mostly during the day and you should be alright. Maybe check the local news. They have frequent teacher’s strikes in Oaxaca which can get a lil hairy

First time I seen u and Scotty touring few years ago ur spanish was almost zero, damn ur Espaniol really picked up hell of a lot better than mine, maybe because I stoped touring almost 20 years ago, maybe because my education was so intermittently, when Mexicans do compliment me on my spanish, I always tell them if I could trade my German in for Spanish I'd be dangerous always get a good laugh, Ride on Bro, also glad u stayed in touch with that French dude, I liked that guy from the beginning,

I tell ya, I miss the suspension I had on the KLR. It wasn’t a great bike- the brakes sucked and it had zero power when packed- but on roads of broken asphalt, that bike shined.
Just bought my first straight raizer today.nothing like that
side note, i live in Orlando, peacocks everywhere. An annoying amount and they are aggressive ha.

Hey Bud, So what made you decide to head back to old Mexico? Beautiful Country for sure. The Peacock reminded me of a book I read about French Guiana and the surrounding Islands,The Guards at Devils Island used them around the Prison .I guess they get very loud when they see something out of place. Take care my friend.

Great question 💡 well, when it comes down to it, I enjoy learning about the culture and language. I’d already explored a good deal of the US, but Mexico was fascinating because it’s so different.

I have had the idea of going to visit family in Mexico, to travel by motorcycle from California to Ocuilan. But i get that fear of going alone through a possible dangerous route.. did you encounter anything like that? Fear of certain people? I’m Mexican and still have that fear 😅

Oh cool, around Cuernavaca. I was around that general area last summer- in Tepoztlán. Let's just say- I've been to Mexico several times, and know lots of people who travel there on a bike. I've never heard of any serious problems from within my circle. In general I avoid traveling at night. To be honest I'm freaked out every single time I go down lol, but hey. It;s awesome so it;s worth the risk . Hope you get to see your family
