Well, this is marvellous. You know there is a difference in Dmitry's performance at least in 2 recordings of this song on KZread. Another one is from Cardiff's competition. And both enterpretations are stunning. but this one shoes more tenderness, less young expression and passion than in Cardiff, also more cantilena and belcanto, less attack on the stressed syllables and as always stunning breath control. We miss you, maestro. I wish I could hear you live at least once.

I do not not know the translation nor would I care to. I understand that it speaks to my soul and carries me with it. I understand enough to play it over and over and remain mesmerized and on the verge of tears each time.

As gorgeous as Hvorostovsky's singing is, Rachmaninoff gave due beauty to the accompaniment in this song, and the pianist plays it beautifully. Bravo!

So true, Hvorostovsky's art is unique and honest, and eternal, too! Huge thanks also from me - he gave us art and memories for our own lives, and for generations to come! May we preserve civilization and peace so they can enjoy this heritage!

What does this comment mean, a little more precisely? ... "sharp"??? Is it not meant to be just like Dmitri sings it here, in the script? Has he improvised a bit on that last wonderful note? Would you, or somebody else, please tell us the key this composition is written in? Which note "should" Dmitri sing and which note does he sing here? (Well, it couldn't be more beautiful, it sounds emotionally so right!) Please, kindly help us, who are lacking perfect pitch!
