Vergil's japanese dub is quite cool, Dante looks ok, gives him the badass dude feeling. Nero looks like the average anime main character, it's not bad though. V's dub fits to be honest, I just find all of them still pretty good

I liked the changes with Vergils lines and Neroes tone. In the English version Vergil already knew before the final fight that Nero was his son and then goes “Nero…my son?” And Nero is overall just a lot more boastful and loud mouthed while he’s more mature and soft spoken (which is weird because it’s Johnny Young Bosh). I like both versions, but Vergils Hirata is my favourite.

The Japanese version is not bad, but I still love the amount of power and pain JYB put into Nero with his "I'M NOT LETTING YOU DIE!" shout, as well as the "FUCK YOU!" when he transforms during the fight against Vergil. As well as Rueben's "That bitch slap nearly killed me."

Fun Fact, the devil may cry games were actually created and intended to be played in english, with all promotion material being in English too! Obviously its up to the player on what language they want to hear but its still pretty cool

As someone who grew up with bleach on adult swim meaning dub I also cannot not hear Jonny Bosch voice Nero. Hes voice is just so good. Liked it Bleach, liked it in DMC4/5.

The direction is given the same treatment and nuances in EN as in JP (which is the major factor why some EN dubs, mostly in anime, seem to suck), which is why there's so much charm in the EN dub here. Like "Not gonna die my ass. That bitch slap nearly killed me," no way in hell that dialogue could be given as much charm in JP than in EN

If we could have JP dub for all main characters except V and have V voiced completely by Max0r's lines I could die happy

This is like an anime fun fact devil may cry did had an anime series that was mad by mad house the people behind death Note and one punch man

For a non-english speaker the sub titles are pretty accurate with not many mistakes. Good job!

This is where both the JP and EN qualities of dubbing are equally good. EN didn't try to copy the JP (I'm just spiting at anime en dubs here) dubs but they fully utilised the unique charm English as a language can provide and made it awesome like when nero says 'fuck you' that's a good feeling, and JP holds the same depth and intensity. PS. I didn't mean that JP dub came out before, but I was just emphasising on why the en voices were just charming. And I also edited the comment to avoid any further misunderstandings.

As much as the English voices are iconic to the English side of the players, it's probably the same with the JP VA's for the JP players of the game, seeing as these voice actors are really popular anime seiyuu. Although, I do wish they made another DMC anime, this time having more episodes and more in-depth story with these characters. It doesn't even have to be an adaptation of the games' stories, and instead be an original one that shows more of the details in Dante's devil hunter life.

I heard it’s actually still the English voices over there, at least for long-time players because DMC was always intended to be in English and even the promotional material was in English. It wasn’t until DMC4: Special Edition that a Japanese dub was finally added.

The main characters in this anime includes: Genos as Nero Minato as Dante Miyamura as V and Sanji as Vergil EDIT: I like the JP more than English because: I'm a HUGE weeaboo, no more explanation BUT, I like the English too, because some badass lines are meant to be in English, and in the Japanese voiceover, they're absent, or changed, like when Vergil thanking Nero, or in Mission 10, when Dante says "Jackpot", he just says something else.

Nero said "Puck you" when go devil trigger against Vergil is too iconic for DMC5. Plus Vergil and Dante EN VAs are just too iconic

I actually did play this in Japanese a couple times, and Nico's voice was kind of what I expected

I really do like how in Japanese, Nero monologue before transforming is directed as if he were talking to Credo rather than about him like in the dub. It feels a lot more powerful that way instead of how he seems to be talking to an unseen audience in the English version. Kind've wish that context had been carried over into the dub.

The non-twist is that a lot of japanese games have anime plot/character dynamics, it just gets toned down by US localization and if you're not looking for it, you can sometimes forget it's there.

Vergil became the thing his status memes were made for. (He became an anime character.)

JP Dante sounds like he gonna kill the whole battlefield in 1 sec.

Well the voice actors that devil may cry used were from anime side of business. On both sides. Nero for example is Johnny Yong Bosch. He was in nearly every anime English dub. He now does it less but it used to be that he was in nearly every show voicing something.

It’s the same thing as with Resident Evil. It’s a Japanese and American title. Both efforts combined to make this game. So yes, it will feel like anime, it is. It’s an anime that is localized with more than just dubbing.

Nomally I play games in JP (if it's anime looking art style) but for real looking stuffs like DMC or RE, I'll stck with Eng.

I actually beat the game for the first time with japanese dub, it was a wonderful experience I did it only out of curiosity and because I didn't like Nico's voice but it made playing the game so much more enjoyable
