I get the banging on Rowdy for his April and May, but claims that Hoskins was a real good signing is crazy. Forget that he’s hitting .197 for June. He’s got a .8 offensive WAR and -8.1 defensive WAR, for a total of .1 WAR in 2024, essentially a replacement player first baseman for 2/ 34M. Bad choice to try to make that fit your Brewers narrative. We’d be bashing management for spending $34M on a replacement level first baseman, wouldn’t we?

Rowdy is looking sharp. But what I really loved was his interaction with the young kid who was there for his bday! Kids are what it’s all about and it’s super cool to see that aspect. Also how bout Delay?! Give the man some love DK! For the last two seasons youve called him lucky.. at this point he’s at the very least, good at being lucky. What are the chances he takes a more active role? He seems more solid than grandal.

It doesn’t help that Connor Joe has had a dismal June to coincide with Telez’ revival. Not to mention everyone else besides Reynolds.

Shelton isn't managing anything, simply carrying out what upper management is asking him to do. He wouldn't be a major league manager for any other major league team. He's a perfect fit for the Pirates.

With the 2024 season having such struggles early and his injury time, how far away is David Bednar from a multi-year contract with Pittsburgh?

I did not like Clint Hurdle but boy do I miss him. You know what I wish someone would asked Shelton? When someone asks him a question why is the first word out of his mouth every freaking time "yeah"

[This is going to be a longer post today, so if you don't like long posts in general, certainly feel free to ignore it.] DK-- a few key observations that you expressed in today's show resonated, and they also lined up with thoughts I've had about this Pirates team over the course of the 2024 season so far. To preface what's about to follow, I'd like to state in no uncertain terms that I care about this team, and that I'm a "players-centered" fan. I enjoy nothing more than watching one or more players thrive and be consistently productive in an environment that they're not only happy in, but at the very least one that they're "comfortable" in. There's been visual evidence on the field all season that several Pirate players seem consistently "uncomfortable," and therefore are unable to be consistently happy and productive (if very much at all). This also isn't a bold statement, because not only does it contain a grain of truth, I believe it contains a "boulder" of truth: this Pirates organization is being powered by the fuel of dysfunction, and those in charge have become way too comfortable with this toxic form of fuel that they themselves have chosen. When DK stated that Ben Cherington doesn't make necessary roster changes (i.e. Tellez) -- or necessary coaching changes (i.e. Haines) -- and it's because he never wants to reveal that he's made a wrong decision (ever!): it's putting Cherington HIMSELF first, before the well-being and professional careers of the Pirate players. That introduces a secondary fuel of irrationality mixed with arrogance, and there seem to be related fuel leaks that seep into all levels of management in the organization. I sometimes daydream about the types of team fixes that could catapult this team into the stratosphere of consistent winning. My daydream variations have always had one specific vision in common: that Ben Cherington holds a press conference specifically for Pirate fans. In that press conference, he states the following words with genuine humility and (finally) an acknowledgement of a much broader understanding of his role, and the realization of how his decision-making has actually set the team back: "I've reflected on my tenure here and the trajectory of this Pirates team since I became GM. I've come to realize that this team absolutely isn't where it should be in regard to its level of improvement or its current team record. I take full responsibility for that, and I realize now that it's up to me to not only change my ways of thinking and the way I approach my job, but also how I've unecessarily and detrimentally impacted the players who've been trying hard to succeed here. There's just too much new talent to ignore these issue any longer, or for me to keep engaging in habits that I've been comfortable with, but that haven't really benefited the team over time. A new, different, and exciting kind of change is coming to Pirates baseball-- that change begins with me, and that change begins TODAY." I feel incredibly grateful that I can even imagine words like these, and I also feel grateful that I can share similar and hopeful dreams with many other Pittsburgh Pirate fans.

D.k, as far as cheap first base solutions that they might actually be willing to look into since they won’t springfor anyone decent, What about the first baseman that they got back in the Oviedo trade? Was his name Núñez? Whatever happened to him?

Tellez has statistically morphed into Tucapita Marcano. 2 home runs and 19 RBIs at the halfway point for a 300 lb first baseman.. This is what we're getting excited about?

He's back to what he is, a barely passable ML hitter. Before his 2 for 4 last night, he was 1 for 12 in the previous 4 games. He sucks.

I'd be more concerned with his OPS than his batting average. He's never going to hit .250 but if his OPS touches .750 that's at least serviceable
