I’m a neurophysiologist and I do not know what a “Head EG” is. Perhaps they mean an EEG, which is an electroencephalogram (brainwave recorcding). The test is also called “the video”, but an EEG is not a video recording. This news report is clearly inaccurate. In any case, a normal EEG does not rule out a concussion, and neither does a normal CT or MRI. Novak could well have a concussion and it could have affected his playing.

@@jaym8094 A metal bottle full of water falling 4-6 ft is and directly impacting your head is not something you want to experience. Could definitely produce a mild concussion, and Novak stated that afterwards he had nausea, dizziness, and difficulty with his coordination. Classic signs of a concussion. He is not “ok” as some have commented here. He’s had a mild brain injury.

Thanks for your input doctor. Yea, an aluminium bottle like that, even only half full, would hurt and could easily produce a mild concussion. It was an unfortunate accident. I really don't understand why so many people even question this, and the level of hat and vitriol from some people. As if Djokovijc has done something wrong. The booing of the Roman crowd was also unreasonable and hostile. Why?

I wish you good health Novak. Glad he's ok.

The impact messed up his mesencephalon enough that when the adrenals over fire his cortex gets erroneous data and basically starts making mistakes. Won’t show up on any scan. It’s an easy fix if you know what to do.

I hope he's ok. Unfortunately a "clear" scan doesnt tell much when dealing with a head injury

Looking at some of the comments I think people don't understand how this brain scan works. It does not rule out a concussion at all. A CT scan can't do something like that. It can rule out a severe brain injury, so that's thankfully good news for Novak.

​​@@jaym8094it was a metal bottle at least half full with liquid. It being an accident doesn't mean it is less severe It landed with the bottom edge on the top of his Head from 2-3 meters height and can easily produce a mild concussion. If its not a big deal you should try it.

The symptoms indicate minor to moderate concussion but long term brain damage may be unlikely based on scans. Who knows when he'll get his coordination back to 100% though because concussion is not fun.

The temporary symptoms of nausea and headache indicate a mild traumatic brain injury. As commented below, scans such as EEG, CT, and MRI are a limited diagnostic tool. The key to recovery is brain rest. I hope he takes the time necessary to fully recover. He has nothing left to prove to the world about his tennis accomplishments.

It is always advisable to be diligent and cautious than regret later especially when it is a head injury which can lead to several complications. I believe that Novak is okay. However, Novak must refrain from signing autographs henceforth reaching out to the crowd. There will always be mischeavous and fanatical elements out there who are so jealous of Novak's success and his overwhelming dominance sidelining their idols.

The symptoms indicated prior to the match say it all. I wasn't so sure at first. If the bottle was empty, I intuitively wouldn't think it might have been too bad of an impact, maybe smarted pretty good. But if the bottle was full, that's a pretty good bit of weight at 9.8 m/s². And he sustained a cut if it bled. A cut like that to the top of the head can bleed a lot, and it can be difficult to get it to stop (don't ask me how I know). Even if he may not have sustained a concussion, that loss of blood and some amount of shock to the CNS, can throw you off and takes some time to recover from (again, don't ask me how I know).

Whoah. I'm amazed the AI knew how full/empty that metal canister was and the density of the construction materials. Full well noting that the weight does NOT cause the speed of descent to vary (so weight cannot be determined by speed in this case). Don't be over enamored when the term AI is bandied about. (We are still allowed to think for ourselves).

Better safe than sorry.

THat was a ton of words to say he got a scan and was determined fine.

A water bottle hits him in the head with the plastic cap. The bottle clearly bounces off, that likely indicates a low impact, probably the bottle was empty. Also a lot of hair to absorb the impact. Djokovic feels good enough to make a mockery out of this incident by wearing a bike helmet at a short meeting with fans. I think he overplayed this after his loss to Tabillo. By the way, Tabillo is now in the semis.

Glad he is okay by the unfortunate incident

Just the psychological impact of that is enough to psyche out an athlete who interacts with the public as much as Novak does.. so good to know he is ok. Even given that the tests showed that he is fine after the bottle impact he could have certainly suffered a mild concussion that’s effects were headache and some imbalance or moderate feelings of physical disorientation as compared to an athlete of his calibers usual agility that would result in the momentary loss of his ordinary level of play. Hope to see him in top notch condition at Roland Garros. You never know he could surprise us all and announce a retirement from the sport at the end of this year especially if he manages to snatch gold at the olympics. If he does it would be a fitting end to a remarkable career for the goat of goats.

Scans are good to confirm there's no fractures/damage and such but it absolutely doesn't rule out a concussion. That doesn't show up on the scans. He needs to rest for next 7 days and monitor neurological symptoms.

My speculation is that Djokovic is embarrassed about his reaction and got Serbian docs to say his reaction was appropriate. I work with scan machines and there’s just no way that ANY light bruise would have shown up. The info about the small dog confirms it for me. Cheers bro

Minor concussions don't usually show up on scans though. However nausea, headaches, and balance issues are a clear indication of a concussion. Unless you think he lied of course.

You do realise that not finding an injury does not equal to feeling absolutely perfect. And tennis is easy to ascertain when a player is beaten by the opponent and when he's not playing his best. If you think he looked good and played his best and yet lost, you might need a brain scan yourself.

@@artax3434 maybe he did lie i dont know but i had a minor concussion before and it stays with you for atleast 5 days, in his case he said the day after he felt nothing, but i think he has a motivation problem and not a concussion, same with monte carlo and indian wells

Exactly -- it means his age is showing, and it is time to retire soon. I still don't believe he just got his head checked out. He is a fanatic when when it comes to fitness and wellness. He would have lost the game anyway. Novak has always been a sore loser. Hopefully he does better on the hard courts. I am not sure he has the stamina to go 5 sets in grand slams if he does not win in 3 sets 🤔
