I haven’t decided as yet whether to buy a DJI Pro 4 drone as I’m not sure how much I would actually use it given that I don’t post to KZread or any social media platforms. My main hobby for the past few years has been photography and a drone seems like the logical next step but, only if I actually use it. I enjoyed your tutorial, it was extremely informative and has given me a much better understanding as to the features of the DJI Pro 4. I was impressed by the wide range of parameters that can be adjusted and how you can set the waypoints at home before going out. However, when you were outside I didn’t quite understand everything that you were saying but I have saved your tutorial and can easily watch it again.

Excellent tutorial. One point unclear at the beginning is whether the drone must be turned on to program the waypoint flight. I know to set the avoidance action the drone must be on. I tried it and a WP flight can be programmed without the drone being turned on.

Mats...thanks very much for yet another SUPERB VIDEO. I've watched several Waypoint "How To" videos here on KZread and this is hands down THE BEST! One thing I've discovered...and it's apparently a known issue with DJI...you cannot film in the Night Mode while flying a Waypoint flight. I'm headed out tonight to film a Waypoint flight of our spectacular Christmas lights. I flew this Waypoint mission today to test it...and will fly it tonight. Hope to get some great video...albeit NOT in the Night Mode. Merry Christmas and thanks again!

Your videos are the best. This waypoint video super helpful. Doing a mission inside before going out is cool, but seems like my RC is fighting me. My map will not enlarge and I have to tap commands repeatedly. Either I am missing something or need a replacement remote. Thanks for the awesome advice and information

Great vid didn't know you can set waypoint mission before getting the drone up. I only see people doing waypoints while actually flying to the waypoint to set it which is pointless faffing around

I was thinking that doing a gimbal adjustment (and maybe a little bit of zoom action) to the tree POI may have been better than a drone height adjustment (thus encountering obstacle issues) would have been better. I was also anticipating more on how to save, name and then going back in to a saved mission and editing it then re-saving with the new edits. I just recently tried setting up a simple waypoint mission for the first time and found the whole saving process to be a bit confusing. I ended up with multiple numbered waypoint missions and had no idea which was which. I would think that setting up a waypoint mission in the air as you go along and then going back into the saved mission later and fine tuning the parameters would be the best way to go for creating a saved mission ready for cinematic video recording. ....just my thoughts. I am looking for a video tutorial that delves more into the above interests.

Extra batter suggested on waypoints? by the time you set it up battery is depleted on long waypoints? Is it possible to change battery out once waypoints are set?

Can you share the live tracked waypoint data to an outside 3rd party mapped application?

Very nice and informative tutorial about using waypoints with the M4P. Thanks for posting! At 8' 53" you mention the options RTH, Hover and Land in the Lost Signal situation. In some other posts I also see a 4th option: "Continue". Isn't that available for the M4P?

Continue is not allowed in the EU,therefore its not available in the menu's because the creator is located in sweden. Its clearly stated in the manual.

Nice tutorial and seems super handyfor offline waypoint editing. I ‘ve a small question. I have a mini3 pro. On my controller I do not have the create waypoint button as shown on your begin of the tutorial. I’m not able to create a waypoint profielpagina shown in this video. Do I something wrong 😇? Unfortunately you’re right this is a teacher that is not available in the DJI mini 3 pro. Or well. It’s available for hyper lapse shots.

That's an excellent feature for automated photo captures but will it do mapping missions?

No it’s not made for mapping at all. You need to have a solution for flying a grid for that. I would go for the DJI mini 3 pro with the RC Pro

Hi! There is one difference wit go 4 app and dji fly app. One can add a new wp between two others with the Mavic 2 pro and go 4 app. I haven't found that possible with Mini 4 pro and the RC 2...

if you are video recording and the next waypoint is take a picture, will recording resume after the picture is taken, pls?

Simple question here: do the parameters , for for example, waypoint 3 apply to the flight between waypoint 2 and waypoint 3 OR to the flight between waypoint 3 and waypoint 4? I assume it applies to the flight between Waveport 2 on the way to waypoint 3

I have a question, when I try to add a waypoint, I get a message that says aircraft not in flight unable to add waypoint. Any ideas? I have a mini 4 pro with RC2.

I have updated to the latest firmware for the Mini 4 Pro. I am finding that I can not set POI when I am creating Waypoint on the ground and not flying. DJI fly app says "Aircraft not in the air" when I try to create a POI. does anyone know if this is a current bug? btw, I am using the RC-N2 controller connected to my iPad Pro

i know the avoidance wont work in the dark, but could you do a way point in the day, and save it to do in the dark caus going between things in the dark would be 100 risky? would it exzatly follow the same in dark or will it complain caus no avoidence at night?

Interesting... Is there a setting to "continue" upon signal loss? Can you save missions offline?Is there a Mission History tab?.. Oh & at 15:30 .. the GPS position was set in a live situation.. so it should be exactly as you inputted it. If you made the mission on a map then it could be out a few meters.

"Continue mission" on signal loss is indeed an option on the Mini 4 Pro, but only outside the EU. In the EU, it is disabled for compliance/legal reasons.

Let's say I want a waypoint at a specific point for which I have the exact coordinates, but it is hard for me to actually go near the points (but I can go within flying range 3-5 km from the points) and there is no clear visual reference to use the map, can I create a waypoint out of coordinate values? From looking at the manual and videos like this (good job by the way), it seems that you can't, which is surprising to me when you can do it easily in other map based apps (google maps for instance using kml files that can be produced and read by many other apps and software). One of the great possibilities I see of this model for my work is doing canopy photo sampling of the same fixed points over time, and I have the coordinates for the points I want. Not all of them easy to actually go really near them and no easy way to pinpoint them in a road/buildings map (no roads or buildings) or the satellite layer (lots of trees that look just the same). Giving how much great technology is involved in this model , it is surprising to me that coordinate input programing of waypoints is not an option using kml files or any other way. Any thoughts? suggestions? Am I missing something? Thank you!

I don’t fully understand what you are looking for here… one of the ways to set waypoints is to set a waypoint while flying “normal” :)

@@MK-Creator Thanks for the reply :) When you fly, you get a flight "history" or flight pattern in the log. Can you use this flight pattern as a base for a Waypoint setup ? Like import it into Waypoint setup. Hope that make sense :)

At 11:08 you say to "check waypoint settings"....so as I scroll through each waypoint The waypoint that I am on becomes the new start point....and The GO button does not light up to become activated....how do you check the waypoint flight settings, if that is not the way to do it?

i prefer litchi...its way better to plan waypoint missions...it also flies in straight lines...the dji version is almost impossible to edit on the controller...they need a desktop editor

Hi, do you know what happens, with the settings set to Bypass , and Continue on Signal Loss, if an obstacle is encountered?? Will the drone stop until the battery depletes or return to home?

The drone will stop and RTH will be initiated when Low Battery RTH is triggered.

Just testet the Waypoint system. The problem i have is, if i start the drone in a bit lower altitude because i'm on a mountain. The Waypoints are messed up because the drone measure the altitude from the starting point.

Firstly, I watch your channel boost your content is relevant and informative. I have an issue with my video play backs which contains camera settings displayed on top of the video. Iaccept this is sometimes useful. Can I switch this off at recording or viewing. Please help.

What about if we miscalculate the plan? I mean, if the altitude is set too low lets say 20meters=>waypoin start but there are many trees around, will it bypass them? or is obstacle avoidance active during waypoin mission?

Yes. it will try to go around them or stop the mission. Make sure obstacle avoidance is on.

Sometimes when I am flying my Mini 4 Pro, I mistakenly press button that turns on Waypoints. So my question is, how can I turn off the waypoint feature without turning off the controller?

I have the mini pro 3 I don’t see the way point symbol on the left of my scream above the lunch icon? Do I need to install a third-party app?

Waypoints is unfortunately only available on the mini 4 pro. However waypoints are available for hyperlapse on mini 3 pro

Wondering if you can shed some light on….trying the wp setup controller powered on, however, when I touch C1 , it says aircraft not in flight, unable to add waypoint and tapping waypoint does nothing 🤔I also cannot go to safety tab to highlight’bypass’ bypass, brake and off are all greyed out? What am I doing wrong 😳

Is your drone turned on and in flight? If it’s not. The C1 etc will not work because with that button it’s recording it’s current location and it need to be in flight for that.

Can you set waypoints that are purposefully out-of-range of your controller and it will continue on its flight path, rather than RTH when it loses contact? For example, I want to fly my drone around a large lake, but there are things that will block the signal from you as it moves around the lake. I want it to continue on the flight path when it loses signal, and not stop and RTH. Is this possible?

Yes, one of the things you can specify is what would happen if you loose signal during the mission, by default it is set to RTH but you can set it to "continue with mission". It will RTH when done with the mission (assuming there is enough battery, otherwise it will return when battery levels require it)

Ive only tried waypoint mission once and found that if I set start recording at waypoint 1 and set stop recording at last waypoint, and then add a setting to take a photo at some midway waypoint. The fact it took a photo, then overrides the video recording settings and therefore the last part of the mission is no longer recording video, because it does not re-start the recording video after the photo is taken, despite it recording video at the start waypoint and stop on the last waypoint. So I ended up with half the mission recorded in video, one photo, and the second half no recording at all. Can anyone confirm you can add photo taking anywhere without it stopping the video recording and if so what steps are needed to avoid what happened to my first mission?

No I think this is where MK got it wrong in this video, and the behaviour you're seeing is the expected one. Dji (consumer) drones have never been able to do that, waypoints or not.

It seems your software is somewhat different then mine. I am having trouble finding the icons on the screen that you are using. Could that be an update? If so, can you update the video?

Waypoints mission is not available on all drones. I have an Air 2S and waypoints mission is only available on hyperlapse shots

Don’t get me wrong, I love that my new m4p has this, but….. I use Dronelink and it is far nicer. For example I can sit at my computer and create a bunch of missions that have greater control and then download them to my other drone to fly. DJI needs to step it up.

I agree. When I’m mapping areas I go to my mini 3 pro, fire up the RC Pro and the DroneLink app too. However the SDK is not available to the mini 4 pro so one have to use what’s available. And also. DJI never make things backwards compatible so the RC Pro would not work even when the sdk is out. So then you have to use another remote without the screen because RC2 doesn’t support 3 rd party apps… thanks DJI….

Thank you so much for sharing this great thoughts. I would never say never tho. If you are for example in an open area, there should be no problem at all to use optimal. I have successfully used optimal multiple times, but that said I’ve also used obstacle avoidance many times where it hasn’t quite avoided the obstacles so you definitely have a point here .

I assume waypoint is not available for the mini 3 pro. Come on DJI.

Dji historically has only made waypoints available in consumer drones with omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. I could be wrong, there may have been something for the Mavic Pro...? But AFAIK, it's just the Mavic 2 Series, Mavic 3 Series, Air 3, and Mini 4 Pro... all with omnidirectional obstacle avoidance.

Great demo, very informative. One thing, the Mini 4 Pro does not film. Filming requires a different set of skills. We record, shoot, video/ed, produced. In most cases, it is an unnecessary word as it comes off as either obvious, redundant, or misinformed. Great video.
