If you haven't pulled the trigger yet, consider getting a refurbished mini 4 pro from DJI. I've heard great things about their refurbished units, and they are often half the price.

Loved it ! That was a great view of YYC. I used to take my Phantom 2 to Canmore & Banff. I might just have to pick up this package. FPV is so much easier now than it was 15 years ago.

I'm having trouble calibrating the goggles 2. It shows me to place them on a level surface in 4 orientations but always ends in a failure to calibrate. Any suggestions?

I have the goggles integra, but had never tried calibrating them before. I just gave it a try and it failed the first time, but the second time it worked. I also had to place them in 6 orientations. I even tried it a third time and it worked, and that time I placed the goggles so they appeared to me the same way they looked on the screen and I kind of used the antennas as a reference.

when I recently learned that I can control my Mini4Pro with the motion controller and headset I almost pulled the trigger and bought those devices. Then I realized for just a bit more I could also get the Avata2 and fly them both with those controllers, I'll also save on $ crashing the Mini4 and destroying propellers, so I bought the whole set. I knew I'd buy the Avata2 eventually, and that would cost more in total. And I'm glad I did, flying the Avata is so much fun, flew it around the inside of my house and the outside today, so easy to control with the motion controller, once you get the hang of it. Maybe we'll eventually be able to fly the Avata with the RC2 controller too? Then just pack this and that and the thing over there depending on what flight I want to do. Fun stuff!

Thanks very much for this very interesting and comprehensive video. I've been just trying out the M4P with the Goggles. Not as easy with it as you are. Have to learn against something or feel like I'll fall over. 🥴. I agree with you about the head tracking but i find it much harder to get used to. When flying without head tracking the little circle stays in the center and shows you directly where you're flying but that doesn't seem to be the case with head tracking. As an example, at one point you seemed to be turning to the left and tilting down but the little circle was to the far right and near the top. How can you tell which way you're actually going? Is it showing you the reverse of what you're actually doing?

Flying with the goggles does take some getting use to, I almost fell over a few times when I was first trying it out. And I totally agree with what you said about the head tracking, I find it hard to tell what direction I'm heading at times because the circle is way off to the side. This is all fairly new to me so I need a bit more flight time to really get it all figured out. But I think if you look far enough to the left or right the circle will end up at the side of the screen, and really if you are not rotating the controller left or right the drone should continue to fly straight. I haven't proven that yet, but I will be experimenting with it more. Thanks for the comment!

I know the googles also work with the mini 3 pro, and the air 3 I believe. But you are not able to use the RC2 when using the googles, that would be a nice option to have.

Thanks that was a great video, very helpful, just a quick question. If you are only using the goggles with the Mini 4 Pro and you bind them them does it mean i have to rebind the RC 2 controller when I next want to fly using that.

If you only pair the goggles to the Mini 4 Pro, then your RC2 will automatically connect the next time the drone and controller are powered up together. Doing that you get the warning about flying with an unbound device and after 5 times you have to just power up the drone and RC2 together to reset the counter. Now if you actually want to bind the goggles to the Mini 4 Pro, which I haven't done, I believe you have to unbind the RC2, in order to bind the goggles.

I'm curious regarding the use of goggles with a drone...under FAA Part 107 I'm required to maintain continuous visual line-of-sight with my drone, and I cannot rely on the video presentation on my controller to accomplish that. How do the authorities view the use of goggles??? Any insights would be appreciated.

Hey thanks for the comment. I think the rule is, you are supposed to have a spotter. Where I'm at, the rules for micro drones are fairly relaxed, but I think ultimately you are still supposed to have a spotter.

raise and land on joystick is there a drift issue if pressing too much and land somewhere else or move in various direction without touching the stick

If you're not touching the joystick or the trigger it still tends to drift a bit. If you move the controller around it may cause it to rotate as well.

Can you still use the gimbal fpv mode if you don't use the goggles and motion 2 controller? I mean is it possible to get the horizon banking effect if you just use the RC2?

Yes you can, on the RC2 controller if you go into the main menu by tapping on the 3 dots in the top right corner of the screen and go into Control and scroll down you will see Gimbal Mode, an here you can switch it to FPV mode.

Hey, great post! One question I would have is: While Flying FPV don’t you have to have a visual observer with you to keep the “line of sight” requirement per the FAA, Part 107, and even as a recreational flyer? Because the FPV doesn’t allow you the peripheral view of people, vehicles, other aircraft, etc. Thanks…

Do you have to connect to the Fly app (ios) to get the motors to start? I was told you have to have a GPS signal (from iPhone) so you don't have Remote ID error. I am getting a Remote ID error with just the drone, goggles and remote motion control 2 linked?

You might have to connect with the Fly app. But I'm not 100% sure about that, because where I'm at we don't have remote ID. I assume it would be the same procedure you would use to fly something like the Avata. 🤔

This was a very interesting video. I started off flying non DJI FPV drones and have now bought a mini 4 pro. The good thing is the goggles and motion controller should work with DJIs FPV drones too. I think I will stick to my FPV drones for this type of flying though and keep the mini 4 for exploring and filming and photography. Normal FPV drones aren't great for exploring because the camera angle is fixed. If I want to look down at something I have to fly forward, sometimes pretty fast, or dive, so in those situations the mini 4 would be better since you can hover in place and just have a look around. FPV drones definitely have their uses but slow flight or photography isn't really one of them. If I get the chance I would try the googles and motion controller but I really don't mind using sticks and if I really wanted to use goggles I could always use the HDMI output on the RC2 and connect it to my analogue goggles.

Yeah I agree, FPV drones are more suitable for this type of flying, but it was actually pretty fun to try out with the mini 4. Now being able to fly the mini 4 with the RC controller and goggles could be good for bright days when it's hard to see the screen.

You're welcome! And to answer your question, the RC controller isn't able to be paired with the goggles (goggles2 or integra), maybe that will change in the future, but right now you're stuck using the motion controller with the goggles.

If you want to fly the mini 4 pro with the goggles, you would need the motion controller, the RC remote doesn't work with the goggles. If you have the goggles, in my opinion it's worth getting the motion controller. I didn't have either, but I decided to buy the avata which then came with the goggles and motion controller.

Can you set the action track on Mini 4 Pro using goggles 2 and Motion Controller 2?. Also, could you rotate the camera gimbal while flying with Motion Controller? I use only the Motion Controller to fly my Avata

Those are both good questions. I don't think the tracking functions are available, or at least I don't know of a way to turn them on. But as far as the gimbal, you can rotate it up and down using the scroll wheel on the controller, you just have to press it in while you're scrolling. Or you could turn on head tracking and raise and lower the gimbal by looking up and down.

You may not be able to adjust the gimbal using the FN Dial while in flight. Only before takeoff, and during RTH and landing. If you press and hold the FN Dial in while you move it, it will tilt the gimbal up or down, but not while in flight, at least according to the manual. If there's no way to do it using the controller, head tracking will allow you to adjust the gimbal during flight.

You can do an orbit with the motion controller, but from my experience it's hard to get a nice smooth shot. Unlike the RC2 where you have direct control of the lateral motion and the rotation, with the motion controller you're basically trying to do it using forward motion and rotation.

Yes you can, I'm not sure if there's a way to connect with Bluetooth, but it's super simple with a USB cable. You'll need to have the DJI Fly app on the phone, and when you power everything up and it connects, you can then use a standard USB cable to connect the goggles to the phone. Once you've connected the goggles to the phone, the DJI Fly app should start automatically. And once the DJI Fly app is started, if it doesn't go straight to the goggles view, tap on Go Fly and now you'll see the same display on the phone that you see in the goggles.

Mark I hoping you could help me, can those googles be used without that motion controller? I suspect yes but I don’t want to invest in the goggles if I have to use the joystick

Is there a spectator feature whereby a second person can use the goggles with head tracking (gimbal movement) but the pilot still controls the drone movement?

There is supposed to be a feature that allows you to broadcast the screen display to a second set of goggles, but that would be view only. I haven't tried it yet, but I will be getting a second set of goggles in the next few days and will be trying it out.

In the manual it says if the aircraft supports Explore Mode and if it's turned on the FN dial (as they refer to it in the manual) can be used to adjust the camera zoom, but I don't really know what explore mode is, and haven't had a chance to check it out to see if there is a way to do it. With the FN dial You can also control the gimbal tilt but I haven't tested that out either.

I've seen that video you are referring to, that's actually where I learnt about the specs for the new goggles. But if you have the mini 3 pro then you would need to stick with the goggles2 or integra.

I was just testing this out with the new goggles 3 and I was able to select the rc2 or rc-n2, but there wasn't an option for the fpv controller.

Yes I was using an ND16 while filming this. I almost always use an ND filter, unless it's really cloudy.

So can you only use the joystick when using the goggles? Or can you also use the original controller with the goggles? Can I use the fpv controller with the goggles? So many questions.

With this firmware update, it only allows you to fly with the motion controller when using the goggles, so no RC2, and no FPV remote controller. Maybe they'll give us more options down the road?

From my experience the footage captured by the drone camera is stored on the drone sd card and the goggles sd card would store any screen recording. You can fly straight up and down using the joystick or by tilting the controller forward or backward and pulling the trigger the drone will fly forward and up or down depending on which way the controller is tilted.

Great video Thanks, Now a couple questions... could you demo more about the menu structure, ie SD card formatting, and all those other bits and pieces that no one seems to be covering. Even though you say that we should be used to it, I have yet to get the screen record to work. I still need a good comprehensive all-settings video to go back to for refreshers. Can you use the goggles with the Mini Pro controller instead of the hand controller? I just got my goggles and hand controller this morning and have tried it out in the living room for a bit while I charged it up. The binding process is a pain to unbind the hand controller and the back to the RC controller. That is a pain point that I hope DJI addresses in the future. Once again great video. I also just subbed to your channel as I like the format of your videos.

Thanks for the comment...in future videos I will include more about the different settings. As far as the screen recording goes, if you go to that main menu in the goggles and select settings and go to camera and then advanced camera settings, here you can setup different recording options and enable screen recording. And you will need to have an SD card in the goggles.

With this firmware update, when using the goggles with the mini 4 pro you can only use the motion controller 2.

can you connect a normal controller? instead of this stick and still use goggles? thx

Up until just recently I would have said no, but now with the new goggles 3 you are able to fly with the goggles using the rc2 or rc-n2 controllers. I just happen to be working up a video about that.

I see there is a motion controller 2 and a motion controller 3? What is best controller, and why is the motion controller 3 only $99 while 2 is priced over $200? Also as far as goggles, I see they offer several choices what is best goggles for my just arriving 4 pro? Thanks in advance! Dang, this hobby been getting costly, love it! This is my third drone in the past four years.....Love em! Been wanting to try the goggles out. Just have the questions above confused on controller 2 vs 3?

The motion controller 3 and the goggles 3 are the latest ones that came out with the Avata2, and the latest firmware update allows you to use those with the mini 4 pro. Currently I have the goggles integra with the motion controller 2 and I think they work great, the goggles2 are similar but the 2 goggles offer different features. Really it comes down to personal preference, the goggles3 and motion controller 3 are the latest but the goggles2, goggles integra and motion controller2 work great as well.

That's great, I'm glad you found it informative. To record the screen you have to go into the main menu, then camera, then advanced camera settings and in here you can turn on the screen record and switch record to both (aircraft and goggles) and the screen recording will be saved to the goggles SD card.

I don't think you can do that, or at least I don't know of a way to do that.

Anyone know how to rotate the camera 90º with only the RC Motion 3 + Goggles 3? Feel like I've looked at every menu, hit every button and cannot figure out how to turn the camera to get vert or horiz.

Yes, if you just pair the goggles like I was doing. When you want to go back to the RC controller, you really don't have to do anything, just power up the controller and the drone and they will connect.

Yeah the rule says you must keep visual line of sight, and it can't be a video feed. So if you're flying with goggles, you essentially need a spotter. I kinda get it, but most of the time I can see my surroundings better than my spotter.

Not through the controller, I don't think. But you can connect your phone to the goggles and view the goggle display on the phone. The downside to that, is I don't think you can connect it wireless.

My home town Calgary, am going there soon, and have plans of flying were he is lol

Yeah, it's totally different experience, and definitely takes a bit of getting use to. But after a few flights I started to get quite comfortable and then it's so much fun because you can just point somewhere and go there.

I’m sure my drone, controller, and googles 3 are connected but seems as though when I push the joystick up to lift it’s spinning at the same time and descending with a slow spin, what gives?? Other than that I love it!! Will take a little getting used to but this video is great!!

Great to hear, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! As for your question, I'm not 100% sure, but I think the drone will still respond to tilting the controller when you're using the joystick. So that may cause it to rotate even if you're just flying straight up or down.

If you haven't already, try putting the drone goggles and motion controller into pairing mode all together by holding the power button on each of them until they go into pairing mode. I find that works most of the time. Otherwise I would try using the DJI Fly app.

@@CreateandKaptivate yes that definitely worked, after you paired the motion controller with the drone, I see you are using the motion controller to control the drone with the googles resting on your forehead, are those googles on or off while you’re using the motion controller? I’m starting to think it’s the motion controller? the RC2 has no issues, thanks for your replies! :)

There are some advantages of using the motion controller and goggles with the Mini 4 Pro over the Avata like much longer flight time and obstacle avoidance. The head tracking really got to me at first and I was minutes before ordering these products, but then I heard that obstacle avoidance is switched off during head tracking. That killed the idea of buying this. Flying forward while looking behind the drone would leave you open to flying straight into a tree or structure.

Yeah, I'm not sure why that is. You really do need to be careful, but I feel more aware of my surroundings when using head tracking because I can look around.

I can’t seem to get the motion 2 controller to pair to the goggles for updating. It keeps timing out. I’m about to return the motion controller 2 back to the store. Any ideas? This is ridiculous

I usually use the DJI fly app on my phone connected to my goggles via USB to get everything connected. Typically that way if there are firmware updates required it will give me the option to update. By selecting Connection from the app you can follow the steps to connect everything. If something doesn't connect initially there is usually blue text at the bottom of the screen (trouble connecting with... or something like that) you can click on that which gives you more instruction on pairing. Not sure if any of that helps.

Unfortunately, the way it is now, if you're flying the mini 4 pro with the goggles, you can only use the motion controller. A lot of people have asked about this, hopefully we get more options in the future.

No, it's not a problem. I get that warning because my RC2 is the bound controller, and I would actually have to unbind it from my Mini 4 Pro to bind the goggles. But instead you can just pair the goggles and you're able to use them as an unbound device. The only downside is you're limited to flying 5 times with an unbound device, but once those 5 times are up if you just power up the drone and the bound controller and allow them to connect then you're 5 times are reset.

Would be great to have a video comparing it to the avata 2 experience

I have the Freewell Mega Pack for my M4P. I really like the Freewell filters, I had them for my M3P and I have them for my Avata.

It's unfortunate the obstiacle avoidence gets disabled.. Why? TO me, when using head tacking the obsticle avoidence MAKES SENSE to have. TO make you aware that you're not looking at what you're about to fly into.

I totally agree. If you're flying in one direction and looking in another, that's when you would want obstacle avoidance the most.

A great video as always but could you please please please as the first KZreadr worldwide measure the latency between the goggles Integra and Mini 4 pro? Is it 40 milliseconds like the Avata or 150 milliseconds like to the rc Controller?

Off the top of my head I don't know how I would measure that, or if I have the equipment required. I program industrial automation systems for a living, so it's a question I'm familiar with. Something to think about🤔

@@CreateandKaptivate the most easy way is uesing a gopro in 240fps mode and pointing it half at the goggles screen so the gopro can record what is seen in the googles screen. Than place the mini 4 next to the goggles so the gopro can record the goggles screen and the mini 4 pro at the same time. Than place something in front of the mini 4 pro eg. Led flashlight or smartphone with a timer or smartphone flashing mtiple times. Than hit record at the gopro, fash the flashlight. Look at the footage in a video editor. Count the frames between the flashlight first appearing in front if the mini 4 and than finally appearing in the goggles screen. Every frame is 4ms.i would be forever greatful

That's quite interesting, and I do have the electronics components required. I'd have to look into the camera options but with a gopro at 240 fps that would be a little over 4ms per frame so you should be able to measure it.

When using goggles and motion controller can you shoot in portrait mode

As far as I know the camera is always in landscape mode, or in the horizontal position when using the goggles. I haven't seen a setting to switch it to vertical, possibly it wouldn't work well with the goggles display.

Was it maybe a different drone? For the mini 4 pro and the air 3 the the firmware release notes state that "When used with the goggles, only the DJI RC motion 2 is supported for flight control, other remote controllers cannot be used to control the aircraft"

@@iWadd Yeah me too! That other controller you mentioned is the Remote Controller 2, it was originally for the DJI FPV but you can use it with any O3 air unit including the Avata

I haven't really tested the range yet. I've flown around 400-500m or around 1500ft with no problem. But a lot will depend on where you are flying, whether or not there's lots of interference, and having a good line of sight.

Can i use RCN2 with the goggles?

The RCN2 will work with the goggles3. I have also heard that you can get it to work with the goggles2 and possibly the goggles integra but I not sure how to do that.
