very nice and yes the Skydio 2+ destroys the DJI for tracking and obstical ovoidence. I also use the mini pro 3 on a bike, have 3d printed a bracket to connect it to my ducatti, but bloody hell it's frustrating with active track. other than that, it's a great drone. for this type of video, invest in a Skydio, you'll be amazed.at the difference.

Great video mate. I got the same drone recently and thanks to your video spotted the idea of the plastic container. I used the white moulded shell that the drone came with in the box and trimmed it down to fit in the container. It fits like a glove without the need for rubber packing. I haven't bought the bar mount bracket yet for the RC. I intend trying active track out on the MTB and unscrew the sticks, so they can't be bumped whilst in my backpack.

Thanks for the comment. Since the video I discovered a cover for the joysticks on Ebay by Sunnylife I think. It hinges up as a sun shade when your using the remotes and folds back down preventing stick bump as well. It was only $20 Australian I think .
great fun and great job! I like your self-critical-humor! Maybe you should put some dampening material between the RC and you mount, the shocks are not very healthy for the RC. I tried active track with my Africa Twin, total fail, so I have to give it a try again.

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I noticed when I finished the initial shoot, and rode to a lookout, by the time I got to the lookout the remote. had vibrated a good 90 degrees from where it was, so I took it out of the mount until the afternoon, when I flew the drone again. I was thinking on top of the tank bag, with velcro straps, might be an option, but you don't want to bump the joysticks, whilst flying. 😁
First, really nice job with the custom RC mount. Well done. Second, thank you for putting this through some real-world exercises. I have not been bold enough to do any active tracking on my rides, but will try to do that soon. Good to see that it can handle elevation changes as I would like to try this on some mountain roads in my are where there could easily be a 500M elevation change between planned stops.

Hi Jethro, thanks for the video, good job. I have a mini 3 as my first drone, had it for about a year. It's been a great learning opportunity, & I still am learning! I did think the active track would be better as I am using it for m-cycling/outback trips on my DR650 but it has not been great. It is ok at slow speeds, up to about 35kmh. All in all though, the drone has been great. I am however thinking about upgrading or adding a DJI Air3 to my kit as the tracking seems much better & the waypoint flight function is useful for my purposes. Anyway, I am heading back out to the Kimberley next week on the m-bike with the Mini3 so will see how well it goes out that way, then decide if I'll go for the Air3. Thanks again. Cheers.

Your Welcome. Yeah, the mini 3 is a bit limiting, with its tracking speed max. I think the ultimate drone for motorcycles is the Skydio 2. (This could be outdated info now) But I dont think we sell it in this country. Seems to have a better tracking speed, and handles obstacles a bit better. Having said that the DJIs are better for the quality of the video and photos they produce. And built in features. I've experimented with drone as a tripod, (Just hover it somewhere for a good shot) and the mini 3 is quite useful for that. Can't say I know much about the air 3. Yeah 2 features I wish the mini 3 had is normal flight waypoints, and cruise control, just like the mini 4 had when it come out. The manufacturers always keep the upgrade path open. 🤣

@@jethrowingnut13 Yes, I have looked at the Skydio3 & it is a ripper with the GPS beacon/tracking. Unfortunately availability is the issue & I understand that they are no longer going to provide retail drones, just focus on government & commercial operators. Pity. I've had trouble with drone locking on me while being on my bike. When I dismounted then it locked onto me as a pedestrian without issues. The second problem was the drone lost me in case I made a sudden stop - it just flew over me and lost me from the frame. Skydio 2 seems to do a much better job at tracking and avoiding obstacles
@jethrowingnut13

Agreed, Mini3 needs a beacon or something to follow, like Skydio has.
I would definitely patent those joystick protectors 🤣 some of the cheapest ideas are the most effective. How awesome is the mini 3? Not sure if it's in the video yet, only 5 mins in - you using the plus battery or the stock 249?
@jethrowingnut13
Жыл бұрын
Yep that joystick protector (Exercise mat) is the most versatile product around. I also use it under my soft luggage when motocamping as well. Battery was Stock 249, I couldn't buy the plus batteries anywhere at the time. So I flattened the battery, in a few sessions, in the morning. Then charged it whilst riding around, to shoot the "power lines" session near the end of the Day. Its a great all round drone. Probably not as good as the skydio for tracking motorcycles as the mini 3 doesn't have a beacon yet. But it has better image quality than the skydio. And way more features for videography and photography. And the skydio still crashes as well. 🤣
Great video and lucky of u . I have freezing issues when trying to use tracking mode . As soon as I highlight my object I want to track , the RC screen freeze and disconnects from the drone . What I actually don't like is the fast forward and the speed. In your video and in real life. To me it's actually not useable. Going 20kmh on a motorcycle even offroad as you did is often too slow, doesn't make fun to ride and to record. To me it actually doesn't work in real life scenarios also on a motorcycle it's too often losing track. Good video, but when you mention 4k, 30 fps and zoom level you should also mention 2 times fast forward or 4 times ;) that people are aware of that (in case they are 'blind' 😆)
@jethrowingnut13
2 ай бұрын
Point taken, I assumed people would notice, yeah but you're right, you can't go very fast especially where there are obstacles for the drone to avoid. Yeah, it's not much fun going slow, either. I find it more productive to use the drone as a tripod shot, and ride through the shot. But it's all a hassle when you're out trying to enjoy a ride, you can't just turn it on like the GoPro. One thing that I wish the drone had was cruise control like the mini 4, for high up grand shots, like itchy boots uses. Thanks for the comment. 👍

I don't know why DJI, don't use the remote as a beacon like the skydio beacon. The Remote, or phone has a GPS chip in it. Just guide the drone with this location, when the drone looses visual contact. Seems pretty obvious to me. Maybe they have some planned upgrade at a later date, or maybe there are legal issues.

@@MeerkatADV Yes, The visual would always be more accurate and smoother. The GPS Co-ordinates, probably jump around a bit, I just meant as a guide, when it looses visual, just to get out from behind a tree or something.
