DJI Air 3 - No Variable Aperture - And the 180 Degree Rule?

Following up on my previous video, I explain here how exactly I set up my DJI Air 3 (that also applies to the Mini 4 pro) to expose for good looking video, allowing for motion blur where needed. Where I don't need motion blur - and you'd be surprised how often that is with drone video - I rather go for optimum image quality.

Actual useful info instead of the usual tripe I see from drone KZreadrs. Thanks!

Oh, thanks for that! Isn't it strange how the response is generally more underwhelming the more honest your content is? This encourages me to do more!

Thank you for this. Most interesting. And THANK YOU for being in the kitchen and NOT wielding a frying pan while declaring you have the ultimate healthy/gutbuster breakfast hack that will transform even the untransformable.

I'm sure you'll love it! Except for stills ( where it's got superior low-light performance) it beats the Air2S hands-down in camera performance.. That is if you don't need 5.2k, but why would you? Thanks for the comment!

i like to viddy waterfalls. i have full manual aperture and i still use fast shutter speeds like 1/200-1/400 because i pan and i don't want to get the dreaded roll. but then again i'm not using a drone just a hand held mirror-less camera.

In that sense, drones are no different than normal cameras. Thanks for helping the point that we may want to relax a bit about that 180 degree rule! Don't get me wrong: I'm not suggesting that it should be ignored altogether...

Well... isn't all this only relevant if you lock yourself into 24fps ? Why not shoot 60fps on full auto ? and then use filters in the video editing tool to generate whatever output you want ? 60fps gives you the ability to create 24p and use the high number of interframes to generate smooth motionblur. OR you could keep the 60fps which looks better on monitors anyway.

Thanks for this! It may be a really good point! I've never thought of using dropped frames for motion blur in post...Have you done that, ideally in Final Cut Pro? I'll certainly investigate...

@@MattMesserPics I dont even have a drone yet 😅 (looking into buying a Air 3) The only reason why 24p is used is because of legacy - that Film is expensive. Today the argument could be that SD cards are too - but they are not and neither are HDD's when you can get 18 TB for 300€ The more advanced video editors have all sorts of filters that can be applied, even motion blur in post. I found a video tutorial on how to do it in Premier Pro i think .. but i'm sure you can do it in many other programs. I'll try finding the video

@@MattMesserPics btw - 24p also gives a lot of headache in frame synchronization on 60hz monitors . so either people should shoot 30p or 60p anyway :)

@@MontagoDK Oh, that video link would be much appreciated! I have been debating with myself for a while about the ideal framerate for my own videos. I think one argument was that 24 fps is a multiple of 6 which makes the adaption for the 50Hz world (kind of 24 x 2) as well as the 60 Hz world easier for framerate conversion - but perhaps that was a bit stupid...

@@MontagoDK And - In the light of that's been said, I think you'll be really pleased with the Air 3, that is if still photos aren't a priority for you.
